COLLAR FORM ATTACHMENT FOR GARMENT HANGERS Filed May 18, 1938 I L a 5 0w Llerzlsiensen, l ifdmfieflg Patented Aug. 29, 1939 m STATES COLLAR FORM ATTACHMENT FOR GAR- MENT HANGERS Oscar Christensen and Edward A. Sperry, Redlands, Calif.
Application May 18, 1938, Serial No. 208,666
1 Claim.
This invention relates to garment hangers, and its general object is to provide a collar form attachment for a hanger, that holds the collar of a coat or other garment on the hanger spaced 3 from the hook thereof and in proper rounded formation or in natural shape, thereby eliminating the possibility of the collar becoming stained or soiled by the hook, or wrinkled or creased, due to the weight of the garment, or coming in contact with adjacent hangers having garments thereon.
A further object is to provide a collar form attachment for a garment hanger that can be easily applied to hangers now in general use, and is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and extremely efiicient in use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and. specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front view illustrating our attachment applied to a garment hanger.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is an edge view.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the attachment per se.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary view illustrating a modified form of hanger clamping means with the garment receiving member of the hanger in section.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the letter A indicates a garment hanger of a well known type, and which includes a longitudinally curved garment receiving member, with the shank of the hook secured thereto, and rising centrally therefrom in the usual manner.
The attachment is preferably made into a single unit from any suitable sheet material, such as Celluloid, rust proof non-corroding metal and the like, to provide an upright or vertically arranged body I of substantially semi-circular concavo-convex formation, and formed on the body at the sides thereof or at its lower corners as shown, are clamping members to be attached to the garment receiving member of the hanger for disposing the body in spaced shielding relation with respect to the shank of the hook, throughout the height of the shank, with the arcuate edge 2 of the body uppermost and the convex surface outermost for disposal in the path of the collar of a garment to receive the same, as will be apparent upon inspection of the drawing.
The clamping members include ears 3 extending from the corners of the body for disposal at an angle thereto. Formed on and extendin outwardly at right angles from the upper edges of the ears 3 are horizontal portions 4 having formed on the outer edges thereof, depending clamping tongues 5 which are spaced from in substantially parallelism with and curved toward the ears 3, and the lower ends of the tongues are outwardly flared to facilitate the application of the attachment to the garment receiving member of the hanger, as best shown in Figure 1.
It will be noted that the attachment is applied to the garment receiving member or bar of the hanger, so that the clamping members are disposed in clamping association with the bar upon opposite sides of the shank of the hook to be equally spaced therefrom, so that the body which acts in the capacity as a shield will not only hold the collar of the garment in its natural rounded shape, but spaces the collar from the hook to prevent any possibility of the collar coming in contact therewith, so as to prevent the collar from becoming stained or soiled in the event the hook is not clean or rusty.
The modified form of clamping member as shown in Figure 5 is of inverted substantially U-shape formation like that of the other form, but the tongues 6 of the modified form include right angle bent inwardly directed lower end portions I for engagement with the lower surface of the garment receiving bar, consequently it will be seen that the modified form is permanently fixed to the hanger, while the other form is detachably connected therewith and can be readily applied and removed with respect thereto, but due to the clamping association of the tongues 5 with the bar and which cooperate with the ears 3 for that purpose, it will be obvious that casual removal or displacement of the form of Figures 1 to 4, is practically impossible.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What we claim is:
A collar form attachment for a garment hanger, comprising a substantially semi-circular body curved from side to side in substantially concavoconvex formation to follow the natural shape of the collar of a garment, vertically arranged ears formed on the lower corners of the body for disposal laterally thereof, horizontal portions formed on the upper ends of the ears and for- Wardly directed therefrom for disposal at right angles thereto, and tongues formed on the outer ends of the horizontal portions and depending 1o therefrom for cooperation therewith and with the ears for disposal about the garment receiv ing member of the hanger for securing the body to the garment receiving member upon opposite sides of the suspending means thereof for disposing the body in vertical spaced shielded relation with respect to the suspending means for spacing the collar therefrom.
