Patented Aug. 29, 1939 DISPLAY RACK George C. Macdonald, Boston, Mass, assignor to Megowen-Educator Food Company, Cambridge, Mass, a corporation of Massachusetts Application August 24, 1937, Serial No. 160,631
2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in a display rack for cracker boxes.
It is an object of my invention to provide a display rack that is adjustable to accommodate any desired number of boxes and which will hold the boxes in readily visible inclined positions close to the top of a counter.
It is a further object to provide a simple, inexpensive construction comprising end brackets and rail members and to shape and position the rails in such manner that the boxes will be securely held against displacement by tipping.
Further objects and advantages of my improvements will be more fully apparent from the following description of preferred embodiments thereof as illustrated in the attached drawings.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary elevation of a counter showing the display rack and containers mounted thereon.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the counter shown in Fig. 1 and illustrating in dotted lines the posi tion for a second rack below the first one.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the rack partially shown in section.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on the plane indicated 44 in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a detail vertical section taken on the plane indicated 5-5 in Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of a counter illustrating a modified arrangement of mounting the display rack.
, Fig. '7 is an end view partially in vertical section of the arrangement illustrated in Fig. 6.
Fig. 8 is a detail View of the top of the display stand; and
Fig. 9 is a detail horizontal section taken on the plane indicated 9-9 in Fig. 6.
The counter II! in Figs. 1 and Zhas a front wall l2 and a top wall it which extends for a short distance beyond the upper edge of the front wall I2. The display rack illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 is intended to be mounted on the front or side wall I2 of the counter. The display rack includes end bracket members I6 approximately triangular in form. Each of the brackets l6 has a rear flange l8 provided with openings 26 to receive screws 22 which attach the brackets Iii to the wall l2. The horizontal bottom edge of the bracket [6 is formed with an inturned strengthening flange 24. The angular upper edge of the bracket I6 is formed with an inturned flange 26, the edge of which is rolled over as at 28 to provide a smooth rounded edge.
The brackets l6 are connected and spaced mately at right angles.
The edges of the flanges 38 and ll] are rolled over as at 42 and 44 to strengthen the member 38 and to provide smooth rounded edges.
At its ends the member 36 has inturned flanges it and 48 which are secured by removable fastening means 59 to the brackets E6. The rear and upper rail member 32 is similarly formed L-shaped in section having its flanges 52 and 54 approximately equal in width, the edges of which have rolled over lips 56. The
ends of the rail 32 are formed with turned flanges in.- 58 secured by the removable fastening elements Eli to the end members H5. The flange 10 of the front and lower rail 30 is disposed in the same plane with the flange 52 of the back and upper rail 32 so as to form a support for the bottom of the container 35.
The
As illustrated, the top 36 of each of the containers is disposed in an inclined plane immediately beneath the edge of the top wall of the counter Hi.
desired, however, a second display rack may be positioned beneath the first rack as illustrated by the dotted lines 82 in Fig. 2.
In certain instances, particularly where the counters are made of metal, it is impossible to secure the rack to the wall of the counter.
such case, special adjustable stands may be provided as is illustrated in Figs. 6 to 9.
The counter 10 has a front wall 12, a top wall 14 which overhangs the upper edge of the wall 72 and is formed with a U-shaped band 16 leaving a recess l8 beneath the overhanging edge of the top wall of the counter.
I have disclosed a stand comprising a foot member 80, the bottom of which is formed with a right angled base 82 which may be attached to the floor by the screws 84.
The top portion 86 of the stand is formed at the lower end hollow in section to telescopically receive the foot member 88.
In order to hold the upper and lower parts of the stand in adjustable position a screw 90 having a knurled head 92 is threaded into the member 80 and is received in a slot 94 formed in the member 86. The top of the member 86 is provided with a rubber head 96 which fits within the recess 18 and bears against the overhanging edge of the counter top wall. The lower flange 98 of the U-shaped portion 16 extend adjacent to the stand to hold against tipping and illustrated in Fig. 7. The member 86 is provided with spaced holes I adapted to receive the removable fastening elements I02 which serve to secure the display rack in position in the same manner illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5.
The display racks illustrated can be made relatively cheaply and be positioned at the most convenient location in a store and to accommodate any desired number of cracker boxes.
I claim:
1. A display rack for cracker boxes, comprising a pair of end brackets having substantially triangular body portions provided on one side with flanges engageable with a vertical support to which the brackets are attachable, and a pair of L-shaped rails fixed at their ends to the respective brackets and holding them in spaced parallel relation, one rail being thus connected to the brackets at the lower front corner thereof and the other rail being attached to the body portions of the brackets intermediate the top and bottom thereof and in engagement with said flanges at the backs of the brackets, said rails being so positioned as to engage the bottoms, fronts and backs of the cracker boxes and thus to hold the boxes in forwardly inclined positions and to prevent accidental forward displacement thereof.
2. A display rack for cracker boxes, comprising a pair of horizontally spaced vertically disposed standards adjustable in length to fit beneath the edge of a. counter at their upper ends and to engage the floor adjacent the counter at their lower ends, triangular brackets fixed to said standards intermediate the ends thereof, and L- shaped rails fixed at their ends to the brackets, said rails being so positioned as to hold the cracker boxes in forwardly inclined positions and to prevent accidental forward displacement of said boxes.
