By substantially elliptical, as used in the claims, is meant a geometrical form which has substantially the curve characteristic of a true'ellipse except that the curve at the ends of the major axis closely approximate the formation of an acute angle with straight sides.
What is claimed is:
1. A mouthpiece for cigars and the like made of thin, hard, plastic material comprising a substantially cylindrical portion for attachment to a cigar, a substantially elliptical and flattened mouth portion terminating in a slotted end, the wall of said mouth portion being transversely thickened at said slotted end, and internally projecting means on one interior Wall thereof between the longitudinal edges of the mouth portion and spaced from the opposed Wall thereof, to prevent its closing by biting with normal use.
2. A mouthpiece for cigars and the like made of thin, hard, plastic material comprising a substantially cylindrical portion for attachment to a cigar, a substantially elliptical and flattened mouth portion terminating in a slotted end, said elliptical mouth portion being resilient to permit it to yield to biting and having on its interior surface means projecting from one interior wall thereof, and spaced from the opposite wall thereoi and being positioned intermediate the longitudinal edges thereof to prevent its closing by biting with normal use.

A mouthpiece for cigars and the like made of thin, hard, plastic material comprising a substantially cylindrical portion for attachment to a cigar, a substantially elliptical and flattened mouth portion terminating in a slotted end, said elliptical mouth portion being resilient to permit it to yield to biting and having on its interior surface longitudinal ridges projecting therefrom, and a ridge on one surface thereof being spaced from a ridge on an opposite surface thereof and being positioned intermediate the longitudinal edges thereof to prevent its closing by biting with normal use.

A mouthpiece for cigars and the like made of thin, hard, plastic .material comprising a substantially cylindrical portion for attachment to a cigar, a substantially elliptical and flattened mouth portion terminating in a slotted end, said elliptical mouth portion being resilient to permit it to yield to biting and having on its interior surface a plurality of means, one opposite to another and spaced therefrom and being positioned intermediate the longitudinal edges thereof to prevent its closing by biting with normaluse.

A mouthpiece for cigars and the like made of thin, hard, plastic material comprising a substantially cylindrical portion for attachment to a cigar, a substantially elliptical and flattened mouth portion terminating in a slotted end, the wall of said mouth portion being transversely thickened at said slotted end and longitudinal ridges projecting from the interior surface of said mouth portion and a ridge on one portion of said surface being spaced from a ridge on an opposite portion thereof and being positioned intermediate the longitudinal edges thereof, said mouth portion being resilient to permit it to yield to biting and being limited in its resiliency by the relatively rigid cylindrical portion and the thickened slotted end and prevented from closing thereby and by said ridge or ridges, by biting with normal use.

A mouthpiece for cigars and the like made of thin, hard, plastic material comprising a substantially cylindrical portion for attachment to a cigar, a substantially elliptical and flattened mouth portion terminating in a slotted end, the wall of said mouth portion being transversely thickened at said slotted end and longitudinal ridges projecting from the interior surface of said mouth portion and one ridge on one portion of ie surface being spaced from the opposite portion thereof and being positioned intermediate the longitudinal edges thereof, and joining integrally with said thickened slotted end.

A mouthpiece for cigars and the like made of thin, hard, plastic material comprising a sub stantially cylindrical portion for attachment to a cigar, a substantially elliptical and flattened mouth portion terminating in a slotted end, the wall of said mouth portion being transversely thickened at said slotted end and internal spaced projections positioned intermediate the longitudinal edges of said mouth portion, said mouth portion being resilient to permit it to yield to biting and being limited in its resiliency by the relatively rigid cylindrical portion and the thickened slotted end and prevented from closing thereby and by said internal projections, by biting, with normal use.

A mouthpiece for a smoking article formed of plastic material and comprising a substantially cylindrical portion at one end merging into an intermediate narrow portion of oval cross sectionand tapering gradually toward the opposite end, the latter end having an internal transverse reinforcement and the tapered portion being thin and resilient and having internal spaced projections whereby to prevent its closing by biting with normal use.
