Application Renewed February It is the object of my an integral unit driven STATES PATENT ori-ics PILOT PUMPS Fon DRIVING AUXILIARY AND SLIPPAGE PUMPS Mount Gilead, Ohio, assignor, by
mesne assignments, to The Hydraulic-Press Corporation, Inc., W ration of Delaware 6 Claims.
invention' to provide in from a single source of power the combination of a' main hydraulic pump, a slippage pump 'The slippage pump anda pilot pump. is used to pickup the drainage from the main pump-which has drained down into the slippage 4drainage to the main pump has heretofore been tank and deliver this tank. Such a slippage driven remotely. ,It
has also been necessary to have a pilot pump required to operate the servo-motor or similar control device.
It is preferable to have such pumps all driven in synchronism with one another.
It is the object of the provide for a main pump present invention to and to drive oil the driving shaft of the main pump a slippage pump as an integral part of the main pump, but mounted thereon `in such a way as to be easily replaceable; and to utilize Ythe drive for the slippage pump for operating a pilot pump separately mounted upon the slippage In particular,
pump
it is the object of my invention to provide a radial pump on the drive shaft of which is mounted a driving gear.
gear is an intermediate gear with this driving that forms a slippage gear are also utilized for driving a third driving shaft of a pilot pump.
is mounted on the Associated pump. These gears gear which I am thereby enabled to utilizethe main driving shaft of the main pump for driving both the slippage pump and the pilot pump in synchronism therewith, and to utilize the driving. gear connectedto the main drive shaft for the dual purpose of acting as a ge as a drivefor the pilot pump,
of the pumps together in a but detachable and demounttime keeping all unitary structure able from one another for and repair.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective of several pumps.

detail, I is the end cover ofthe main -hydraulic pump. This cover is connected `by the body ring 3 of the pump.

is supported on the bearings] a drive shaft5. The exact details of thepump are not important, as they are shown in my U. S. Patent No, 2,021,354 issued November 19, 1935. This drive shaft is connected at the end the pump there l6 to any suitable source of motive power, such as an electric motor. .Keyed to this shaftv 5 is a drive pinion l retainedinposition bythe key 8. Thisgea'r ts between thefaoe plates 9 and l0 and within the ring Il, `whichformthef gear pump housing and gear drive. This assembly is mounted upon the falce l of the main hyretaining screws l2. The I3 is used to seal the outer cover plate to the drive shaft 5.
the plates and I a stub this axle there are packing l0 of the gear pump There is mounted in shaft or axle I4 and on mounted the ball support the gear l6`that constitutes the other half of the gear assembly constituting the gear pump. Fluid passageways I1 and I8 are provided leading'from the slippage tank and leading to the main tank in order to remove the slippage from the main pump and its slippage tank. I9 indicates the gear pump chamber.
The gear I6 is also utilized as an intermediate driving gear which meshes with the gear 20 that is provided with a hub 2l. This gear is keyed by the key 22 on the drive shaft 23 for a pilot pump 24 which may be a gear pump or any other type of pump desired. This pilot pump 2l is mounted through the plate 25 and screws 26 upon the plate I0 of the gear pump. n
In this manner when the electric motor drivesv the shaft it drives the gear pump, `consisting of the gears 1 and i6 for the replenishment of the slippage in the main pump, and at the same time drives the piloty pump 24 supplying fluid pressuretherefrom to the controls for controlling the main pump or portions the supply of n uid accordingto speed of the""master -pump,

fully described my invention, what bearings l5, which in turn `driven shaft, a main from said main driven shaft, a supplementary to be mounted on said main pump around said driven shaft, a gear adapted to be mounted on said driven shaft in` said housing. a second gear meshing therewith supported in said housing, a third pump mounted on said housing having a drive shaft projecting therefrom into said housins. pump engaging with the second gear so as to be driven thereby, whereby the rst two gears act simultaneously as a gear pump and as a driving means for the third pump.
2. In combination, a main pump, a driven shaft therefor, a main casing for the main pump, a supplementary casing mounted on one end of the main casing and surrounding a part of saidI driven shaft, a gear on said driven shaft within the supplementary casing, a second g'ear meshing therewith pivoted in said supplementary casing, said supplementary casing being arranged to form a gear pump chamber with an inlet and outlet in association with said gears, and means of connecting said pump chamber to a source of supply of fluid and to said main pump, a third gear meshing with the second gear and' mounted within said supplementary casing, and a third pump mounted on said supplementary casing having a drive shaft projecting intothe supp1ementary casing and supporting said third gear. 3. In a system of pumps, a casing, a main pump in said casing driven casing mounted on the main casing and around said driven shaft, said supplementary casing forming a pump chamber, a gear pump in said pump chamber driven by said driven shaft, a
and a gear` on said drive shaft of the thirdl third pump mounted on the supplementary cas ing having a drive shaft, and means driven by the gears of the gear pump drivingly engaging said drive shaft, said drive shaft being arranged in parallel relationship to the main driven shaft.
4. In combination in a pumping system, of a common power source. a common driven shaft and three pumps driven thereby and arranged in series, one of said pumps having pumping gears adapted simultaneously to pump fluid and to transmit'the power delivered to it from another of the pumps to the third pump, whereby all three pumps are driven synchronously.
5. A pumping unit comprising a main hydraulic pump, power driving means therefor, a support adapted to be secured to said main pump, a detachable gear pump driven by said power driving means and mounted upon said support. and a pilot pump mounted on said gear pump and driven from one of the gears of said gear pump, whereby saidgear pump serves simultaneously to pump fluid and' to transmit power from said driving means to said pilot pump.
6. A pumping unit comprising power driving means, a main'hydraulic pump driven by said driving means and having a casing with a casing end-plate, a gear pump mounted on said endplate and adapted to be driven by said driving means, apinion meshing with and driven by one of the gears of said gear pump. and a pilot pump driven by said pinion `whereby the gear pump serves simultaneously to pump fluid and to transmit power from said driving means through the pump gearing to the pilot pump.
