1 claim.
This invention relates. to draft control mechanism the primary object of the invention being to provide means for controlling the combustion and regulating the draft Within the re box of a furnace, cooking or heating stove, by raising and lowering the pressure under the grate, without the necessity of opening the doors or other closures above the iire, which usually liberates, injurious gas and smoke fumes, to the atmosphere of the room.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will permit of an adjustment with such a degree of neness, that absolute control of the burning of the fuel will be insured.
A still further object of the invention is `the provision of a draft control which will confine the heat and prevent the exhausting of the heat through the chimney, when the draft tothe furnace or stove is checked.
With the foregoing and other kobjects in view, which Will appear as the 4description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise em# bodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope Lof what is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing: i
Figure 1 is a fragmental sectional view through a stove equipped with a draft control constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2 2 y of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an elevational view of the control handle.
Figure 4 is a sectional of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the body portion of a stove structure, however, it is to be understood thatthe principle of the invention may be carried out in a furnace, with equally as effective results.
The reference character 6 designates the fire box of the stove which includes grate bars 'I under which the usual ash pit 8 is located. Openings 9, at the rear end of the ash pit establish communication between the ash pit 8 and vertical ue I0 that in turn communicates with the chimney of the stove, to the end that a draft of air may circulate through the ash pit, under the re in the iire box, escaping through said flue view taken on line 4 4 -2I,- are hinges 23 which and eliminating any possibility of the air passing upwardly through the fire box.
` Bearings II are secured to the body portion and accommodate the damper rod I2, which is of a length to extend through an opening formed 5 in one side of the stove, Where it is supplied with a handle I3 that isv secured tothe rod I2, by means of the'screw I4 which is threaded in the tube I5. The tube I 5 is provided with a shoulder I6 that engages the block I7, forcing the block 10 I 'I into engagement with the stop I8, securing the handle I3 and damper rod, against movement set. y Graduations are As clearly shown by Figure 2, the damper rod I2 is provided with an offset portion I9 adapted to lit over the lug 2B extending from the damper 2|, the damper 2I being of a length to close bo-th of the openings 9. A cotter key in- 20 dicated by the reference character 22 is extended through an opening in the lug 20 and engages the rod I9, securing the damper to the rod I2 so that movement of the rod I2, will act to open or close the damper 2|. Secured to the damper 25 have openings to receive the rod I2, as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawing.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and er to pass through the ash pit 8, the flue I0, thereby insuring against air passing upwardly through the fire box to cause the fire to burn. Y
It might be further stated that the device may be used to control the draft through the re box,
cooling ofthe stove.
