The present invention relates to an improved construction for pump-type oilers suitable for various lubricating purposes in shops, engine rooms, power plants, etc.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved hand-portable pump-type oiler of sturdy, compact construction comprising a relatively-small number of parts of simple and effective form to` facilitate the assembly of said parts; to enable the oiler to be inexpensively manufactured; and to render the said oiler efficient and reliable inuse.
One object o-fthe invention is to provide in a hand-portable pump-type oiler having a forcepump arranged within an oil-container to discharge oil therefrom; an improved construction and arrangement of parts whereby the work of lifting the oil to the place to be lubricated may be mostly, if not entirely, performed during a suction-stroke imparted to the plunger or piston of the force-pump by the automatic action of a return-spring which thus relieves the said plunger or piston on its pressure-stroke from the burden of lifting the oil through a considerable vertical distance tending to interfere with the smooth and even discharge of oil from the discharge-outlet.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a pump-type oiler of improved construc- 30 tion which is readily operated by one hand; can be relied upon to supply oil at any desired rate and in any desired quantity within its capacity; and is convenient to use.
Ancillary to the foregoing objects of the invention, a further object is to provide an improved construction and arrangement of parts wherein the oil-suction and spout members of the force-pump are included in a single continuous oil-conveying tube provided at opposite ends with inwardly-opening and outwardlyopening check-valves respectively whereby, during the continued operation of the oiler, a substantially-unbroken column of oil largely, if not entirely free of air-pockets may be maintained between the suction-valve at the foot of the suction-pipe portion thereof and the outlet checkvalve at the outer end of the oil-spout portion.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear to those skilled in the art from the 50 present disclosure, this invention includes all features in the said disclosure which are novel over the prior art.

According to the embodied form of the invention shown on the drawing, the oil-container for the pump-type oiler comprises an oil-receptacle designated generally by the reference character I0 and a cap II therefor which has threaded connection at I2 with the contracted upper end of the oil-receptacle I0. A ring-gasket I3 is preferably interposed between the contracted upper end of the oil-receptacle I0 and the inner top wall surface of the cap I I.
The said oil-receptacle I0 has a side-wall I4 provided with an opening I4a through which some of the parts are moved into the oil-receptacle I0 during the assembly of the parts composing the oiler. For this purpose, the said opening IlIa is made larger in diameter than the outer surface of a pump-cylinder generally designatedl by the reference character I5, which is moved endwise through the opening I 4a, during the assembly of the structure. The said pumpcylinder I5 has ran open outer end I5 and at its opposite end is provided with an annular inner end-wall I'I having a circular opening I8 formed therein in concentric relation to the inner cylindrical surface of the pump-cylinder I5 which has its open end presented toward and in coaxial alignment with the opening I4a in the lateral wall I4 of the oil-receptacle I0.
Extending through the opening I4a from without the oil-receptacle IU is an externally-threaded bushing I9 which has threaded connection at 20 with the open end I6 of the pump-cylinder I5, a split ring-like retaining-yoke 2| being interposed between the open end I6 of cylinder I5 and the inner wall of the oil-receptacle I0. The said retaining-yoke 2I is provided with a gap 2Ia to permit its edgewise movement into position in the manner to be hereinafter described.
The externally-threaded bushing I9 is provided with a hexagonal head 22 whereby the said bushing may be threaded into the open end I6 of the cylinder I5. Interposed between the hexagonal head 22 and the outer' wall of the oilreceptacle I are gaskets 23 by meansv of which an oil-tight joint is formed between the bushing-head 22 and the outer wall of the oil-receptacle I0.
Extending partly Within and partly outside of the oil-receptacle I0, is a V-shaped oil-conveying tube designated generally by the reference character 24, and provided with a longitudinal bore 25 which extends from one end thereof to the other. Interrriediately of its ends, the oilconveyingrtube 24 has an elbow-portion or bend 26 formed therein. Adjacent to the elbow 26, a port 2'I is formed in the tubular wall of the oil-conveying tube 24, as is shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
The said oil-conveying tube 24 comprises a substantially-vertical suction-pipe portion 28 extending upwardly from within the lower end of the oil-receptacle Ill to the elbow-portion 26', and a substantially-horizontal portion 29 extending outwardly from the elbow-portion 26 through the cylinder I and bushing I9 in axial relationship thereto. A check-valve housing 3U which has a threaded connection at 3| with the lower end of the suction-pipe portion 28 of the oil-conveying tube 24, is provided at its bottom with a valveseat 32 for a ball-valve 33. The said ball-valve is pressed toward the said valve-seat 32 by a spring 34 interposed between the said ball-valve 33 and the lower end of the suction-pipe portion 28 of the oil-conveying tube 24. At the outer end of the spout-portion 29 of the oil-conveying tube 24, a valve-housing 35 is mounted and has threaded connection therewith at 36, a valve-seat 31 being provided at the outer end of spout-portion 29 to be closed by an outwardly-opening ballvalve 38 acted upon by a spring 39 which tends to retain the said ball-valve upon its seat 3'I. The valve-housing 35 is, as shown, provided with a central discharge-port 39a.
Reciprocably mounted upon the spout-portion 29 of the oil-conveying tube 24, is a reciprocatory tubular piston designated generally by the reference character 40. The said reciprocatory piston 4I! comprises a tubular stern 4I which bears upon the exterior of the spout-portion 29 of the oil-conveying tube 24 and also slidably engages the interior wall of the bore in the threaded bushing I9; a substantially cup-shaped pistonhead 42 which is integrally formed with the tubular stem 4I, the exterior surface of said cupshaped piston-head 42 being in slidable engagement with the inner surface of the pump-cylinder I5; and a plano-concave disk-'like ngergrip 44 which has threaded connection at 45 to the outer end of the tubular stern 4I. The said cup-shaped piston-head 42 is provided with a concentric cylindrical cavity within which the spout-portion 29 forms an annular spring-receiving recess 43. Interposed between the reciprocatory tubular piston 40 and the annular inner endwall I'I of `the cylinder I5, is a return-spring 46, one end of which is disposed within the springreceiving recess 43.
Located within the spring-receiving recess just referred to and seated against the end-wall thereof is a packing-ring 43a. of leather or the like and which is retained in lplace by the'thrust of the adjacent end of the return-spring 46.` The said packing-ring 43a guards against the outward leakage of oil between the spout-portion 29 and the tubular stem 4I of the piston 40. In assembling the oiler, the pump-cylinder I5,
piston 40, bushing I9, finger-grip 44, and returnspring 46 are mounted upon the spout-portion 29 of the oil-conveying tube 24 together with the gaskets 23. At this stage of the assembly, the bushing I9 and pump-cylinder I5 are not threaded together.
With the piston 40, the bushing I9 and associated parts slid axially outwardly adjacent the valve-housing 35 as indicated by broken lines in Fig. l, the inner portion of the oil-conveying tube 24 including its suction-pipe portion 28, is maneuvered into the oil-receptacle I 0 through the opening I4a in the side wall I4 thereof. The cylinder I5 is now slid axially along the spout-portion 29 and through the said opening |40, which latter it will be noted by reference to Figs. 2, 3 and 4, is slightly larger than the external diameter of the said pump-cylinder.. The retaining-yoke 2| may be slipped edgewise over a now-exposed portion of the spout-portion 29 by virtue of the fact that the gap 2Ia therein is of a width substantially corresponding to the diameter of the said spout-portion. The said retaining-yoke 2l may now be laterally flexed and maneuvered through the opening I4a (permitted by the gap 2Ial) until it is entirely within the interior of the oil-receptacle I0. In this connection it is to be noted that the retaining-yoke 2| has an external diameter materially larger than the opening I4a in the side-wall I4 of the oil-receptacle I0 so that when once located within the said oil-receptacle and brought into axial alignment with the opening I4a it engages the inner surface of the side Wall I4 surrounding the said opening I4a as is clearly shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4.
With the pump-cylinder I5 and retaining-yoke 2I located within the interior of the oil-receptacle I0 as above described, the group of parts comprising the piston 4U, finger-grip 44, bushing I9, gaskets 23 and return-spring 46 are slid axially along the spout-portion 29 of the oil-conveying tube 24 until the said bushing I9 is in position to be threaded into the open outer end of the pump-cylinder I5. With the cap II removed, the pump-cylinder I5 may be supported by the ngers of the assembler inserted through the open upper end of the oil-receptacle I0, while the externally-threaded portion of the bushing I9 is passed through the retaining-yoke 2| which it centralizes, and is screwed into place into the said pump-cylinder to thereby draw the outer edge of the pump-cylinder I5 against the inner face of the retaining-yoke 2I to compress the gaskets 23 between the hexagonal head 22 of the said bushing I9 and the outer surface of the side wall I4 of the oil-receptacle I0.
The parts above referred to will now have assumed the completely-assembled positions in which they are shown in the drawing.
For the purpose of forming an air-tight joint between Ithe spout-portion 29 and the annular inner end-Wall I'I of the cylinder I5 Within the circular opening I8, these parts, previously prepared for the purpose, are sweat-soldered together.
'I'he under-side of the annular wall of the pump-cylinder I5 near the open outer end I6 thereof and within the oil-receptacle I0, is provided with a drainage-port I5a which opens outwardly from the annular pump-chamber 21a into the said oil-receptacle. The drainage-port I5a just referred to, is adapted to drain off such oil as may pass the piston-head 42 and adhere to the surface of the annular chamber 21m and be collected by the piston-head 42 on the return- 75 stroke of the piston 40. Any accumulationV of oil as just described will be returned through the drainage-port Ia to the main supply of oil contained within the oil-receptacle l0, thus preventing oil from being forced outwardly between the bore of the bushing I9 and the outer periphery of the tubular stem 4|.
The advantageous features of a pump-type oiler constructed according to the present invention will now be readily understood. Having flilled the oil-receptacle Il) to some such level as that shown in the drawing, a few strokes of the reciprocatory piston 40 will serve to substantially ll the oil-conveying tube 24 from one end thereof to the other and at the same time will provide an auxiliary supply of oil within the annular pump-chamber 21a which is drawn upon during each pressure stroke of the reciprocatory piston 40, and replaced at each subsequent suctionstroke of the piston under the action of returnspring 46. The spout-portion 29 of the oil-conveying tube 24 is fixed with respect to the oil-receptacle lll and pump-cylinder I5 and, in consequence, projects a xed distance from the oilreceptacle I0 and is readily positioned with respect to the places to be lubricated when the oil-receptacle is grasped between the thumb and some of the fingers of one hand with at least one finger exerting pressure on the finger-grip 44.
Where the places to be lubricated are accessible to the spout 29 when held in a horizontal position, comparatively little pressure on the fingergrip is required to produce a smooth and even ow of oil out from the discharge-port 39a since no additional pressure is called for to lift the oil above the level of the auxiliary supply contained in the annular pump-chamber 21a. It will be seen, also, that after each pressure discharge of oil from the discharge-port 39a, the oil in the auxiliary chamber 21a is automatically replenished by the outward suction-stroke of the piston 4| effected by its return-spring 46 which operates to lift the oil through a relatively-short distance between the upper oil-level in the oil-receptacle I0 and the said annular chamber 21a.
The invention may be carried out in other specific ways than those herein set forth without departing from the spirit and essential characteristics of the invention, and the present embodiments are, therefore, to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, and all changes coming within the meaning and equivalency range of the appended claims are intended to be embraced therein.
I claim:
1. A pump-type oiler, comprising: a verticallyelongated oil-container; a pump-cylinder arranged within the said container on a substantially-horizontal axis and having an annular inner-end wall; a substantially-continuous oilconveying tube extending from. within the said oil-container axially through the said cylinder and a wall of the said container to project outwardly beyond the latter, the said oil-conveying tube being mounted within and in xed relation to the said annular inner-end wall of the cylinder and provided with an opening into the annular pump-chamber formed between the said tube and the inner cylindrical wall of the said cylinder, the said oil-conveying tube having a rectilinear oil-spout forming-portion extending outwardly through the `wall of the said oil-container from the said opening into the said annular space and a suction-pipe portion extending downwardly within the said oil-container from the said opening; a tubular piston and shank therefor reciprocably mounted upon the said rectilinear oil-spout forming-portion to operate the piston within the said annular pump-chamber, the said shank being provided without the said container with a finger-grip for imparting an inward movement to the said piston; a returnspring interacting between said piston and an end-wall of said pump-chamber; an inwardlyopening check-Valve at the foot of the said suction-pipe portion of the oil-conveying tube; and an outwardly-opening check-valve at the outer end of the said rectilinear oil-spout formingpcrtion thereof,
2. A pump-type oiler, comprising: an oil-container; a pump-cylinder mounted within a wall of the said container and projecting inwardly therefrom; an oil-conveying tube having an elbow formed therein intermediately of its ends and withl an opening in the tubular wall thereof adjacent to the said elbow, the said oil-conveying tube comprising a rectilinear oil-spout portion extending in one direction from the said opening and a suction-pipe portion including the said elbow extending in the opposite direction from said opening, the said rectilinear oil-spout portion being rigidly mounted within an inner annular end-wall of the cylinder with the said opening in open communication with the annular pump-chamber formed between the said oilspout portion and the inner cylindrical wall of the said cylinder; a tubular integrally-formed piston and shank reciprocably mounted upon the said oil-spout portion of the oil-conveying tube, the tubular piston being arranged to operate within the said annular pump-chamber, a finger-grip on the outer end of the tubular shank; inwardly-opening check-valve at the foot of the said suction-tube portion; and an outwardlyopening check-valve in the outer end of the said oil-spout portion.
3. A pump-type oiler, comprising: an oil-container provided with an opening in a wall thereof; a pump-cylinder coaxially arranged with respect to said opening and having an open end presented toward the said opening, the said pumpcylinder being provided at its other end with an annular wall forming a central aperture; a bushing extending inwardly through the opening in the oil-container and having a threaded connection with the open end of the said cylinder; an integrally-formed oil-conveying tube having a rectilinear portion mounted in and in fixed relation to the annular inner-end wall of the said cylinder and extending concentrically through the central opening in said bushing and a suctionpipe portion provided with an elbow adjacent the said annular inner-end wall of the cylinder to adapt the former to'be arranged to extend downwardly from the said cylinder within the said oil-container, the said rectilinear portion of the oil-conveying tube being provided with an opening through which the oil-conveying tube is in permanent open communication with the annular space formed between it and the inner cylindrical wall of the said cylinder; a tubular piston having a tubular shank reciprocably mounted upon the said rectilinear portion of the oil-conveying tube and in slidable engagement with the inner wall of the said bushing! the said tubular piston being arranged to operate within the said annular space within the cylinder; an outwardlyopening check-valve in the outer end of the said rectilinear portion of the tube; and an inwardlyopening check-valve arranged at the foot of the said suction-pipe portion thereof.
4. In a pump-type oiler, the combination with a substantially-vertical oil-container provided with an opening in a lateral wall thereof; of a continuously-formed oil-conveying tube provided with an oil-port opening intermediately at the ends thereof and with an elbow formed therein adjacent to the said port-opening, the said oilconveying tube comprising a rectilinear spoutforming portion on one side of the said portopening and a suction-pipe forming-portion on the other side thereof including the said elbow, the said suction-pipe forming-portion thereof being insertable through the said opening in the wall of the oil-container with the spout-forming portion thereof arranged substantially horizontally and concentrically with the said opening in the wall of the oil-container; a pump-cylinder having an outer diameter less than the diameter of the said opening in the wall of the oil-container and provided with an annular inner-end wall constructed to slidably fit the said oil-spout forming-portion of the oil-conveying tube as the pump-cylinder is moved into position within the said oil-container with the open end of the cylinder presented toward the opening in the oil-container; a tubular piston constructed to intert with the inner cylindrical wall of the said cylinder and having a tubular shank concentric thereto, the said piston with its shank being reciprocably mounted upon the said spout-forming portion of the oil-conveying tube; a bushing provided with a central bore constructed to slidably engage the outer vWall of the said cylindrical shank, the said bushing having a hub-portion lconstructed to have threaded connection with the open end of the said cylinder and an outer head-portion constructed to form a seal with the outer wall of the said oil-container; a linger-grip threaded to the outer end of the said tubular shank; a check-valve housing threaded to the outer end of the spout-forming portion of the said oil-conveying tube; an outwardlyopening check-Valve within the said check-valve housing; a suction-valve housing threaded to the foot of the suction-tube forming-portion of the said oil-conveying tube; and an inwardlyopening check-valve in the last-mentioned checkvalve housing.
5. A pump-type oiler, comprising: an o-il-container provided with an opening in the lateral wall thereof; a continuous oil-conveying tube provided with an intermediate elbow to dispose the portions of the said oil-conveying tube on opposite sides of the said elbow in angular relation each to the other, one of the said angularlydisposed portions of the tube being provided with a port-opening in the tubular wall thereof; a cylinder open at one end and provided with an annular inner-end wall at the other end mounted upon and in xed relation to the said oil-conveying tube intermediately of the elbow and the port-opening formed therein, the said oil-conveying tube being in permanently-open communication with the annular space formed between it and the inner cylindrical wall of the pump-cylinder by means of the said port-opening; a tubular piston and shank reciprocably mounted upon the portion of the oil-conveying tube having the port-opening therein and having the said piston operating within the said pumpcylinder, the said portion of the oil-conveying tube having the port-opening therein, the said cylinder and the said tubular piston and shank beingconcentrically arranged with respect to the opening in the wall of the said oil-container; means mounted in the said opening in the oilcontainer around the said tubular shank for securing the open end of the cylinder to the lateral wall of the said oil-container; an inwardly-opening check-valve at the intake-end of the suctionpipe forming-portion of the oil-conveying tube; an outwardly-opening check-valve at the outer end of the portion of the oil-conveying tube having the port-opening formed therein; and a iinger-grip mounted on the outer end of the said reciprocatory shank.
6. In a pump-type oiler, an oil-pumping unit, comprising: a continuous oil-conveying tube having an intermediate elbow formed therein to provide a suction-pipe portion including the elbow and a rectilinear spout-portion extending from said elbow; a pump-cylinder mounted on and forming with the outer Wall of the said spout-portion, an annular pump-chamber, the said spout-portion being provided with a combined inlet-and-outlet port for the annular pumping-chamber; a tubular piston reciprocably mounted on said spout-portion of the tube and operating within the said annular pump-chamber to pump oil into and out of said annular pump-chamber through the inlet-and-outlet port; a. ringer-grip mounted on a portion of the tubular piston projecting outwardly from the said annular pump-chamber; and inletand outlet-valves in the suction-pipe and spout-portions, respectively, of the oil-conveying tube.
'7. In a pump-type oiler, an oil-pumping unit, comprising: a continuous oil-conveying tube provided with a bore which is substantially uniform in size and shape from one end to the other end thereof and having an intermediate elbow formed therein to provide a suction-pipe portion including the elbow and a rectilinear spout-portion extending from said elbow; .a pump-cylinder having an annular inner end wall interiitted with the outer surface of the oil-conveying tube between the inlet-and-outlet port and said elbow to form an annular pump-chamber around the said spout-portion of the tube; the said spout-portion being provided with a combined inlet-and-outlet port for the annular pump-chamber; a tubular piston reciprocably mounted on said spout-portion of the tube and operating within the said annular pump-chamber to pump oil into and out of said annular pump-chamber through the inlet-and-outlet port; a finger-grip mounted on the tubular piston without the annular pumpchamber; and inletand outlet-valves in the suction-pipe and spout-portions, respectively, of the oil-conveying tube.
8. In a pump-type oiler, an oil-pumping unit, comprising: a continuous oil-conveying tube having an intermediate elbow formed therein to provide a suction-pipe portion including the elbow and a rectilinear spout-portion extending therefrom; a pump-cylinder having an annular inner end wall in circumferential engagement with the said spout-portion adjacent the said elbow and forming an annular pump-chamber around the said spout-portion; a tubular piston reciprocably mounted on said spout-portion and comprising an annular piston-head movable into and out of endwise abutment with the annular inner end wall of the cylinder and provided with an annular spring-receiving recess opening around the said spout-portion toward the annular end wall of said cylinder, a tubular shankportion reciprocable on said spout-portion and provided with a nger grip at its outer end; a return-spring coiled about the spout-portion between the annular end walls of said cylinder and piston-head recess; a combined inlet-and-outlet port formed in the spout-portion adjacent the annular end wall of said cylinder; an inlet-valve at the foot of said suction-pipe portion; and a discharge-outlet valve at the outer end of the said rectilinear spout-portion.
9. A pump-type oiler, including: a substantially-vertical oil-container and an oil-pumping unit, the oil-pumping unit comprising: a continuous oil-conveying tube having an intermediate elbow arranged within and at one side of the oil-container adjacent the upper end thereof, a rectilinear oil-spout extending transversely across the oil-container from the elbow through and past the opposite wall thereof, and a rectilinear suction-pipe portion extending downwardly from the elbow within the oil-container; a pumpcylinder concentrically arranged with the rectilinear-spout and forming therewith an annular pump-chamber, the said pump-cylinder having an annular inner-end wall joined to the outer surface of the said spout adjacent said elbow; a tubular piston comprising an annular pistonhead disposed within said annular pump-chamber and a shank reciprocably mounted on said rectilinear spout and extending through the said opposite wall of the oil-container, the said shank being provided with a finger-grip at its outer end; an inwardly-opening check-valve at the foot of the suction-pipe; and an outwardlyopening check-valve at the outer end of said rectilinear oil-spout.
10. In a pump-type oiler, the combination with an oil-pumping unit, comprising: a continuous oil-conveying tube having an elbow formed therein intermediately of its ends to provide rectilinear oil-spout and suction-pipe portions extending in different directions from the said elbow; a pumpcylinder mounted on and concentrically arranged with the rectilinear oil-spout portion of the oilconveying tube and forming therewith an annular pump-chamber, the said oil-conveying tube being provided with a combined inlet-and-outlet port for the annular pump-chamber; of an oil-container provided with an opening of larger diameter than the outside -diameter of said pumping-cylinder to permit the introduction of the said suction-pipe portion and cylinder through the said opening into the said oil-container; a tubular piston reciprocably mounted on the said oil-spout portion and comprising an annular piston-head within the annular pumpchamber and a tubular actuating-shank extending through an-d outwardly beyond the said opening; means for forming a sealed connection between the outer end of said cylinder and the marginal edge of said opening around the tubular shank of said piston; and inletand outletvalves arranged in the oil-spout and suctionpipe portions of the oil-conveying tube, respectively.
ll. A pump-type oiler, comprising: a substantially-vertical oil-container provided with an opening in one side adjacent its upper end; a
continuous oil-conveying tube having an intermediate elbow formed therein to provide a suction-pipe portion on one side of the elbow and an oil-spout portion on the other side thereof, the said oil-spout portion being provided with a cornbined inlet-and-outlet port adjacent the said elbow; the suction-pipe end of the oil-conveying tube being movable endwise through the said opening and adjustable within the oil-container to arrange the spout-portion within and concentrically with respect to the said opening; a pumpcylinder having an outside diameter less than the diameter of said opening, the said pumpcylinder being constructed to form an annular pump-chamber around that portion of the said spout-portion including the combined inlet-andoutlet port; a tubular piston reciprocable on the said spout-portion within the annular pumpchamber and through the said opening in the wall of said oil-container, the said pump-cylinder being provided with an open outer end arranged adjacent to the said opening in the oil-container; and a bushing mounted in the said opening in the said oil-container and interconnected with the open outer end of the pump-cylinder.
l2. A pump-type oiler, comprising: a substantially-vertical oil-container provided with an opening in one side adjacent its upper end; a
continuous oil-conveying tube having an inter- Y mediate elbow formed therein to provide a suction-pipe portion on one side of the elbow and an oil-spout portion on the other side thereof, the said oil-spout portion being provided with a combined inlet-and-outlet port adjacent the said elbow; the suction-pipe end of the oil-conveying tube being movable endwise through the said opening and adjustable within 'the oil-container to arrange the spout-portion within and concentrically with respect to the said opening; a pumpcylinder having an outside diameter less than the diameter of the said opening, the said pumpcylinder being provided with an annular inner end wall constructed and arranged to slidably engage the said oil-spout portion and movable thereon through the said opening into endwise abutment with the said suction-pipe portion within the oil-container to provide an annular pump-chamber around and in open communication at its inner end with the bore of said spout-portion through the combined inlet-andoutlet port; a tubular piston having an annular piston-hea-d operating in the annular pumpchamber and a shank-portion reciprocably mounted on said oil-spout and extending outwardly through the said opening; the said cylinder being provided with an open outer end disposed adjacent to the said opening in the oil-container; a retaining-yoke interposed between the open outer end of the said cylinder and the inner wall of the oil-container, the said retaining-yoke being larger in diameter than the diameter of said opening to prevent the retraction of said cylinder through the said opening; and a bushing mounted in the said opening and connected to the open outer end of the pumpcylinder.
