Description

July 11, 1939. A. l. PALMER 1 CABINET Filed Jan. 4, 1958 v INVENTOR By mgm@- WITNESS ATTORNEYS Patented July 11, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT yOFFICE Application January 4,
2 Claims.
My invention relates to cabinets and more particularly to cabinets adapted for the storage of milk, dairy products and the like.
One of the principal objects of my invention is to provide a cabinet equipped with means wherein milk and other food products may be readily stored and subjected to a temperature to prevent spoiling of the same.
Another object of my invention is to provide a cabinet of the above described character comprising a plurality of sectional units for receiving milk and other food products whereby any number of the units may be employed and positioned in a desired place, for instance in delivery trucks.
A further object of my invention is to provide a cabinet of the above described character which is simple in construction, durable in use and efficient in operation.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Fig. i is a fragmentary front elevation partly in section of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary disassembled sectional view illustrating the manner in which the sectional units are connected together.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation partly in section of one of the drawers carried by one of the sectional units.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary perspective View illustrating a detail of one of the drawer structures.
In practicing my invention I provide a cabinet 5 comprising a plurality of sectional units 6, each of said units equipped with a door having a pivoted handle 6a. The front face of said door is recessed for receiving the handle in non-operating position whereby to effect a smooth outer surface and likewise the hinges of said doors are inset to present a like surface.
Inasmuch as each of the sections are of a substantial identical construction, whereby the same are adapted to t one on the other, a detail description of one section will suffice, it being understood that the reference numerals indicative of parts of the described section are also indicative of like parts of the other section.
Each section comprises a unit fashioned with side, front and rear walls 'I, 8 and 9 respectively, the front wall constituting the door in which is mounted the pivoted handle 6a. The rear wall 1938, Serial N0. 183,376
9 is also provided with a like handle 9a whereby the unit may be readily lifted. Each of the walls has inner and outer spaced sections embracing an interior lining of suitable insulating material I0.
Each unit is provided with a plurality of sliding drawers I I arranged one above the other and the front wall of each drawer is provided with an inset pivoted handle IIa whereby the same may be opened and closed. The outer face of each drawer has the edges ush with all adjoining edges to form an inner seal, thus helping to maintain themperatures within. Fashioned on the inner walls of the drawers are spaced guide members I2 tapering downwardly and outwardly and of a substantially V-shaped configuration.
Said members are located in opposed relation on the side walls and in the corners thereof. The bottom of the drawers are fashioned with a plurality of apertures I3 whereby moisture or air from one drawer may flow into an adjacent drawer.
A plurality of elongated frames I4 are positioned within the drawers and are fashioned with angularly disposed corner sections for engagement with the V-shaped members I2 whereby, upon insertion, the frames are maintained in wedged condition within the drawers to effect a snug t therebetween. Each of the frames are formed with side walls and an open bottom and top, the interior forming a chamber for the reception of milk bottles or other food products.
Partitions are provided within the frames and divide the same into a plurality of pockets for receiving therein milk bottles or other food products contained in bottles, cans or the like whereby to prevent engagement of the bottles with each other and resultant breakage. Each unit is fashioned at the upper end thereof with an offset section I5 for insertion within the recessed section I6 in the bottom of the superposed unit whereby to effect a meat and ush connection therewith.
In use, ice or other suitable refrigerant is introduced into one or more of the drawers of the units and serves to maintain the units at a temperature to prevent souring of the milk or spoiling of the food products contained therein. In extreme cold weather suitable heating elements, for instance heated bricks or the like, may be introduced into one or more of the drawers to prevent freezing of the products contained in the other drawers.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that my cabinet may be readily contained in a truck or the like used for the purpose of transporting and delivering milk or other food products and that the size. of the cabinet may be varied by the addition or removal of various units to suit the requirements of the occasion.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising, a receptacle, frames arranged within said receptacle and having side and end walls, said frames fashioned with corner portions dis- `posed at an angle tothe side and end walls thereframes whereby said frames are maintained in wedged condition in said receptacle.
2. A device of the character described, comprising, a receptacle, frames arranged within said receptacle and having side and end walls, said frames fashioned with corner portions disposed at an angle to the side and end walls thereof, said receptacle fashioned with walls having spaced thereon upwardly tapering guide members presenting inclined surfaces for cooperation with said corner portions of said frames whereby said frames are maintained in wedged 'condition in said receptacle.
