UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
DANIEL SGHWEIKHARD, OF LEROY, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 216,578, dated June 17, 1879; application filed February 25, 1879. i
callyreciprocating dasher of a churn, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art I to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is side elevation, and Fig. 2 a rear view, of my invention.
A represents the bed or platform, on which the churn B is secured and held by hooks a a. At one end of the bed A is a suitable framework, 0, in which is placed acrank-shaft, I), having a balance-wheel, D, secured upon one end. On this balance-wheel is a wrist-pin, d, connected by a pitman, E, with a treadle, F, pivoted in a step, G, at the side of the bed A.
On top of the frame G is secured a U-shaped spring, H, to the upper end of which is atthe length of stroke of the dasher, and also regulate the tension of the spring. By this mechanism for opera-ting the dasher no lifting whatever is'neeessary, the work being performed by the spring and balance-wheel combined, and the operator can work either by the treadle or by the rod-that is, either by foot or hand.
Having thus fully described my invention,
whatI claim as new, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the U-shaped spring H, with perforated arm I, the dasher-rod J, the adjustable pitman K, crank-shaft b, and balance-wheel D with pitman E and treadle F, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of February, 1879.
DANIEL SGHWEIKHARD.
