  • the ink ductor is held by its spring in contact with the ink fountain during the .turning of the fountain roll, andxthus readily picks up a sufficient quantity of ink, andthereafter the ductor roll is shifted and positively held' in contact withthe transfer roll until the ink is transferred to that roller. 1- have found that. this makes a very satisfactory'transference of'ink from the fountain to the transfer roll and thence to the print-l ing plate.
