SKILL DART GAME APPARATUS Filed June 9, 1958 v 5 eet 5 WWW fi Patented July 4, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFHQE 6 Claims.
This invention relates to game apparatus and particularly requiring the skillful throwing of a dart for effective scoring.
It is further aimed to provide such a structure utilizing a rotary member carrying a plurality of plugs constituting targets for the darts, which plugs in a predetermined position, are adapted to automatically register a score.
It is further aimed to provide such an apparatus with a system wherein the score of different players will be electrically indicated.
Still further, it is aimed to provide a novel construction of plug both from the standpoint of its mounting and the closing of an electric cir- 5 cuit through scoring mechanism or registers.
'20 embodiment.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a view showing the apparatus in front elevation;
Figure 2 is a view of the apparatus in rear 5 elevation;
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the apparatus;
Figure 4 is an enlarged section taken on the plane of line 4- 3 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a detail section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4;
Figure 6 is a detail section taken on the line 5-6 of Figure 4;
Figure 7 is a detail section taken through parts adjacent one of the plugs and showing the switch 5 in closed position;
Figure 8 is a perspective, collectively showing the different parts of one of the plugs and its attaching means;
Figure 9 is a horizontal section with the control switch of the scoring mechanism;
Figure 10 is a vertical section taken substantially on the plane of line Iii-40 of Figure 9; and
Figure ll is an electrical diagram.
Referring specifically to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, H3 designates a panel or board which is usually disposed vertically. The rear of such panel is a bearing bar ll connected to the panel by means of bolts l2 on which spaces F3 are threaded.
Said panel if! has a central cut-out or opening M which is occupied by a rotatable disk l5, journaled on a thick spindle iii in the form of a bolt which is fastened by nuts [1 and I8, rigidly to the bearing bar ll. Said disk l5 has a recess [9 receiving the head 28 of said spindle or bolt It. The shank 2| of the latter passes through and is journaled in a spider or bracket 22 fastened at 23 to the disk.
Suitably fastened to the rear of said disk I5 is a pulley rim 25, the fastenings being shown at 25. An endless belt 26 traverses said pulley flange 24 and is driven for example by an electric motor 2'? suitably mounted at E8 on the bearing bar II. In a row concentric with the spindle l6, a series of equi-distantly spaced recesses or openings 29 are provided through the disk l5. Disposed for sliding in said openings 29 are target plugs 30 made for instance of cork, wood or any other desired material. Such target plungers .are detailed in Figure 8. Each plunger has a diametric slot 3! in one end thereof whereby such end is bifurcated to straddle a bar 32 fastened diametrically across each opening 29 at the back thereof and to the disk I5 as at 33. is interposed between the base of the slots 3! and the bars 32 and retaining plates or disks 35 are fastened across the rear end of the target plungers 30 as at 35. Said springs 35 normally urge the target plungers to their outermost positions and permit them to slide inwardly to impact upon targets being struck by a dart.
The score of the thrown dart hitting the target plug 30 at the desired or predetermined location, for instance between the represented darts at 35, delineated on the panel i0, is adapted to be automatically registered or indicated through the illumination of lamps 3'! in boxes 38 disposed for instance on opposite sides of the panel at. The number of lamps 31 in each box corresponds to the number of the target plungers 30 so that there is a lamp in each box to illuminate successively the lamps corresponding to the struck target plungers.
The apparatus is used for the game played, preferably by two players and preferably for a predetermined length of time for instance three minutes, determined by a time clock 39 adapted to be set in operation through the deposit of the proper coin in the coin control mechanism Ml. Such time clock. 39 is in the electric circuit Wiring 1!, receiving its energy from any desired source and the Wiring including a transformer at 42 and electromagnetically operated circuit closing devices 43, to operate the lamps 3'! when darts strike the plunger targets. To this end, and arranged in said circuit are normally spaced contacts 44 mounted on the bar ll. One of the contacts 36 has a transverse arm or extension 35. When a target plug 30 is struck by a dart,
An arched spring 3 3 (:2
the impact moves it inwardly so that its disk 35, when opposite the arm will move the latter inwardly and cause the contacts 44 to engage and thereby two conductors 46 close an electric circuit in the wiring 4 I, to illuminate one of the lamps 31.
Attention is called to the fact that while there are two boxes 38 and lamps 31, that the lamps of only one box at a time can be lighted and this depends upon operation of a switch 4'! as detailed in Figures 9 and 10. The circuit or wiring 4| includes conductors 4B, fingers 49 and fingers 5B which are normally disengaged therefrom. The fingers 49 are simultaneously operable against the contacts 48 through depression of a button 5! and the fingers 50 are simultaneously engagable with the contacts 43 through depression of a button 52. Thus if the button 5| is depressed, lamps 31 of only one box 38, corresponding thereto, will be lighted according to the accuracy of the player while if the button 52 is depressed, the lamps of the other box only will be illuminated, depending upon theaccuracy of the player,
Various changes may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. Apparatus of the class described having a disk, means mounting the disk for rotation, targets carried by the disk, mounting means for the disk, a motor on the mounting means, and a drive from the motor to the disk, said targets being movable relatively to the disk, and signal means including an electric circuit having a switch common to all of the targets arranged to beclose-d through sliding of a target registering therewith occasioned by impact of a dart with the latter target.
