HAIR our Filed July V15, 1938 5050/7717 PO/G'A I [/7 z enfar Patented July 4, 1939 PATENT OFFICE HAIR CLIP Bohumil Polak, Prague, Czechoslovakia Application July 13, 1938, Serial No. 218,968 In Czechoslovakia December 10, 1937 1 Claim.
The invention relates to 'a hair clip consisting of two flat spring arms secured together at one end by means of a' loop portion and adapted to move away from each other when the clip is 5 opened. The clip may advantageously be formed by bending a single spring member back upon itself. In order to close such clips special closing devices have hitherto been provided at the free ends of the spring arms or these ends 0 were adapted to cross by means of offsets and bends. In both cases the production of the hair clips is complicated and expensive;
According to the invention one of the spring arms is provided at its free end with a spherical 15 button and the other spring arm is slightly arched at its free end and the arched part thus formed is provided with an aperture. The button snaps detachably into this aperture and lies in the arched part of the adjacent spring arm in the closed position of the clip so that it does not project below the underside of the clip and is thus secured against involuntaryopening.
Longitudinal slots are also formed in the, apertured spring arm, which extend from the aper- 25 ture in the arm longitudinallyof the arm.
spring action. A spherical hollow button t is formed by stamping the free end of the flat spring arm 4 and an aperture I and longitudinal slots 8 areformed by punching the free end of the flat spring arm 3. Thus the clip can be closed by snapping the hollow button into the aperture and opened by lifting the hollow button out of the aperture. The aperture 1 is formed in an arched part of the spring arm 3 so that in the closed position of the clip the hollow button 8 does not project below the underside of the clip and the clip is thus secured against involuntary opening.
What I claim and desireto secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
In a hair clip having two resilient legs joined by a loop at one end thereof which imparts to the legs a tendency to spring apart from each other, said legs being provided adjacent to their other ends with corresponding male and female parts of a locking device of a snap fastener type with the male part upon the one leg formed by a lug and the female part upon the other leg formed by a loop capable of receiving said lug into the same and retaining the same in looking engagement, the features comprising small end slot portions extended longitudinally from the ends of the loop forming the female part of the locking device so as to increase the resiliency of the sides of said loop, an exteriorLy concavely arched portion upon said other leg containing said female part or slotted loop so as to raise said loop and prevent the male part or lug of the locking device from projecting beyond the Beneral outline of the lower supporting surface of as the clip when the latter is in closed position.
