Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in my former Patent No. 1,995,095 issued March 19, 1935. In this patent there is provided a structure in the nature of a sucker rod coupling of integral conthreaded pins C which are received within the internally threaded boxes provided at the end of the coupling structure, which latter embodies the present invention. More specifically this invention comprehends the provision of an internally threaded portion so situated in the sucker rod coupling assembly that it will be at all times accessible for engagement with a tap.
A further object of this invention resides in the provision of means for keeping the internally threaded sections clean of sediment, scale or sand so that the engagement of the tap can be quickly and conveniently accomplished.
Reference will be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which- Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing the invention positioned within the tube, the latter being in section.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation partly in section of a portion of a coupling enlarged to clearly disclose the invention.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a fragment of this structure and Fig. 4 is a section on line 4--4 of Fig. 3.
In Fig. 1 the tube is indicated by reference character A and the sucker rod section by the reference character B. The extremities of the sucker rod sections are screw threaded to provide threaded pin C is of a diameter and construction to abut against the lower face I9 of the coupling element l2 to limit the movement of the threaded pin C and space the inner end of this pin a short distance from the wall l6 thus providing and defining a chamber 2| at this point. Referring to Fig. 1 reference character M indicates the shank of a pin threaded at m and terminating at its lower end in a conical guide portion 111.. The pin M is provided with a conventional threaded upper pin structure identical with the pin structure C of the sucker rod and is adapted to be screwed into the lower threaded box of the coupling element [2. The conical extremity m acts as a guide when inserting the element into a broken structure as illustrated in Fig. 1, permitting the centering of this element and the engagement of the threads m with the threads formed within the reduced bore H.
In actual use a plurality of the combined sucker rod couplings and guides are utilized and where one is ruptured due to long use the rupturing takes place through the weakest point which is through the elongated webs I4. When such a rupture occurs a threaded pin m is substituted for the broken section and the sucker rod assembly lowered to permit the threading of the pin into the reduced threaded bore IT. The lower section which was severed by the rupture can then be readily removed and a new element substituted. The radial bore or perforation 22 communicating with the chamber 2| eliminates the accumulation of sediment, scale or sand and permits such material to be slushed out during the normal operation of the assembly. By virtue of this perforation 22 the threaded bore I1 is always clear and thus a quick connection may be made with the pin M.
It will be noted in the formation of the present structure that the lower coupling element I2 is of greater length than the upper coupling member l l, and this elongation is essential to provide a body structure of ample length to accommodate the reduced threaded bore l! which receives the fishing pin M. The relative length of the lower coupling with reference to the upper coupling may be varied according to the relative size of the assembly.
a What I claim is:
1. A parafiin scraper section for a sucker rod assembly comprising two connecting members secured. together by longitudinal ribs, an annular body having angular shearing faces connecting said ribs intermediate their ends, one of said connecting members having an outer threaded bore and a spaced inner axially formed reduced bore, and a port in the wall separating the spaced threaded bores.
2. A sucker rod coupling comprising, a tubular body portion formed with angular cutting faces, spaced ribs extending longitudinally from both ends of the body portion, the ends of said ribs terminating in coupling elements, one of said elements being provided with an internally threaded box portion, a longitudinally threaded bore extending axially of said threaded box and spaced therefrom, and a port formed in the wall below said threaded bore.
3. Aparafiin scraper section for a sucker rod string comprising upper and lower connecting members rigidly secured together solely by longitudinal ribs having their outer surfaces lying in a cylindrical surface, an annular body portion connecting the.ribs intermediate their ends and flush with their external surfaces, the lower of said connecting members having a longitudinally threaded bore opening downwardly and an upper spaced axially arranged reduced threaded bore opening upwardly and a port formed in the wall intermediate the threaded portions.
4. A paraffin scraper section for a sucker rod string comprising upper and lower connecting members rigidly secured together solely by Iongitudinal ribs having their outer surfaces lying in a cylindrical surface, an annular body portion connecting the ribs intermediate their ends and flush with their external surfaces, the lower of said connecting members being elongated and having formed therein spaced axially aligned internally threaded portions the lower portion opening downwardly and the upper opening upwardly, and a drainage opening in the wall spacing said threaded portions.
5. A paraflin scraper section for a sucker rod string comprising upper and lower connecting members rigidly secured together solely by 1ongitudinal ribs having their outer surfaces lying in a cylindrical surface, an annular body portion connecting the ribs intermediate their ends and flush with their external surfaces, the lower of said connecting members having a longitudinally threaded bore opening downwardly and an upper spaced axially arranged reduced threaded bore opening upwardly and a port formed in the wall intermediate the threaded portions. 6. A sucker rod coupling comprising, a tubular body portion, circumferentially spaced ribs extending longitudinally from both ends of the tubular body portion, the ends of the ribs terminatingin rod connecting members for engaging the ends of adjacent rod sections, the lower one of said connecting members having a threaded bore, for receiving a rod section and having a reduced threaded bore thereabove for engaging a fishing tool.
7. A sucker rod coupling comprising, two rod connecting members secured together by longitudinal ribs, the lower member having an outer threaded bore for receiving a rod, and having an inner reduced threaded bore thereabove for receiving a fishing tool. 8. A coupling as set forth in claim '7, and a settling chamber between the two bores.
9. A coupling as set forth in claim '7, and a settling chamber separating the two bores, and an escapement port leading from the chamber.
10. A sucker rod coupling including upper and lower rod connecting members, an intermediate tubular member, the connecting members being spaced from and supported by the intermediate tubular member by spaced webs, said webs being so constructed. and arranged as to permit free passage of fluid through said tubular member, and between said tubular member and said rod connecting members, said lower connecting member having an outer threaded bore for receiving a rod, and an inner reduced threaded bore for receiving a fishing tool.
