Description

June 6, 1939. H, TUSSlNG 2,161,730
MAKE-UP MIRROR Filed Feb. 28, 1938 6/2 /7 ZZ/JJ/kf Patented June 6, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a make-up mirror.
As an aid towomen and to guide them in their make-up it is the purpose of this invention and the principal object thereof to provide a large number of pictures of women of all types, each appearing before the make-up and after, which pictures are mounted within a casing on a moving band Wound on a pair of opposed reels supported therein; and a fixed mirror attached to said casing the arrangement of said band, pictures thereon and mirror being such that any two pictures may be brought into view one on each side of the mirror whereby to serve as a guide to the woman making-up.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent as the description thereof given hereunder proceeds with reference to the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view showing the make up mirror and moving band of pictures provided within a casing, the top of which is removed to show the interior thereof.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the casing taken on line 22, Figure 1, with the casing top shown in position.
Referring to the drawing in detail, I denotes an oblong box-like casing formed of any suitable material comprising a bottom ll, side walls l2, I3 and end walls l4, l5, the casing l0 being open at the top and adapted to be closed by a suitable cover or top 16. Arranged centrally within the casing in and adjacent the open top thereof is a make up mirror I! of a length such as to extend across the casing from one side wall 12 to the other side wall I3. Preferably the mirror ll is provided with a frame l8 and is fixedly attached to the casing side walls by brackets 19. Each bracket l9 comprises a pocket portion 20 receiving an end of the mirror frame [8, and a wall portion 21 adapted to engage the inside of a respective casing side wall and to be rigidly secured thereto as by the rivets 22. It is to be understood however that any other form of mirror mounting and attaching means may be utilized. Suitably supported by the bracket walls 2| is a rod 24, arranged beneath and in spaced parallel relation to the mirror IT, for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
Adjacent each casing end wall l4, I is rotatably mounted a reel or spool 25 and 26, respectively. Each reel comprises a hub 21 and end discs 28 and are of the same general character as the conventional film roll reels used in cameras, of the type well known, and are similarly releasably mounted within the casing for rotational movement on the fixed pins 29 and axially movable pins 30 operated by the cranks 3|. Connecting the hubs 21 of the reels 25 and 26 is a flexible band 33 of any suitable material, the ends of which are attached to the respective reels whereby portions of the band 33 are Wound up on each in the manner clearly shown in Figure 2. Printed or otherwise provided on the band 33 are a plurality of pictures 32 of women of all types in all types of make-up. Thus by a rotational movement of either of the reels 25 and 26 any desired picture of a particular type of woman having a particular type of make-up may be brought into View adjacent the mirror I! whereby to serve as a guide to a woman using the device in make-up in a like fashion. The pictures of each type of woman may also be provided in pairs one showing the woman prior to a make-up-andthe other showing the same woman with the make-up applied, the pictures being so spaced that when brought into view a picture of each pair will be disposed on each side of the mirror in the manner suggested by the pictures 32, see Figure 1. The pictures are preferably labeled with the name of some popular or well known personality, such as a motion picture actress or the like, each picture also preferably bearing the symbol before or after" depending upon whether the make-up has not or has been applied. The band 33 may also carry printed directions for making-up, color charts, advertisements and any other data of interest and guidance to women in the art of making-up.
Referring to Figure 2 it will be noted that the band 33 extends below the mirror I! and is supported on the rod 24 which functions to hold the band in position and to prevent sagging thereof. While only one such rod is shown it is to be understood that any desired number thereof may be utilized for a like purpose if so desired.
While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described and illustrated it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of various changes in structure and design without departing from the spirit of the invention as indicated by the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A make-up device of the character described comprising a casing having an open top and a closure lid therefor, a mirror, bracket means rigidly attaching said mirror to said casing adjacent the open top of said casing and centrally between the ends thereof, a manually operated reel rotatably mounted within said casing adjacent each end thereof, band means carrying a plurality of different visual before and after make-up guide means connecting said reels and wound thereon, said band means being disposed for movement beneath said mirror whereby selected visual make-up guide means may be brought into view adjacent both sides of said mirror by a rotational movement of one of said reels.
