This invention relates to improvements in wax or like applicators having a self-contained supply of wax material or other polishing, cleansing or scouring material which can be expressed therefrom when the device is applied to and rubbed over a surface desired to be treated.

The invention has for an object to provide a novel container for wax, or other materials of the kind mentioned, wherein a comparatively large supply thereof is stored subject to expression therefrom as required in use. The container has a novel internal structure for holding and supporting the material with which it is charged subject to a compressive action calculated to facilitate the gradual expression of the material from the discharge end of the container when the device is in use.

The invention has for a further object to provide means in connection with the container and projecting from the discharge mouth thereof, whereby the emitted wax or other material may be easily and quickly spread or filmed over the surface under treatment.

Other objects of this invention, not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be understood from the following detailed description of the same.

Illustrative embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:-

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of the novel applicator according to this invention; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional View of the same.

In Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive the novel applicator is shown to comprise a hollow casing It of suitable shape, preferably rectangular, which is closed at its top end H but which is open at its opposite or bottom end. This casing it is made of flexible impervious sheet material. For example it may be made of oil-cloth, or textile fabric impregnated with a nitro-cellulose solution or composition, or, in fact, of any material which provides a desired degree of flexibility while being impervious to and inert to wax and wax solvents, or to such other types of material with which the applicator is to be charged.

Disposed within the interior of the casing It to extend in vertical planes therethrough from end to end thereof or from side to side, whichever arrangement may be most desirable in a given case, are a plurality of corrugated holder sheets l2, the grooves or channels l3 of which provide holding spaces adapted to be filled with the expressible material, such e. g. as a wax paste M. The corrugated holder sheets are preferably made of paper of a somewhat flexible character and may be arranged side by side without intermediate partitioning means, but preferably it is desirable to provide, between adjacent corrugated holder sheets, flat separator or partition sheets l5 which serve to segregate the wax filled channels or grooves of one holder sheet from those of another such sheet.

In width the holder sheets if substantially correspond to the depth of the casing interior. In a 10 preferred arrangement, the partition or separator sheets l5 exceed in width the depth of the casing interior, so that free marginal portions 86 thereof project outwardly beyond the lower open mouth of said casing iii. The free marginal portions S6 of the partition Or separator sheets l5 are provided with longitudinally spaced vertical slits 61, thus forming in connection with such portions a plurality of brush-like elements or wiping fingers I8. 20

In the use of the applicator, constructed in the form above described, the user applies the open end of the casing Hi to the surface desired to be treated, and thereupon rubs the same back and forth over such surface. By exerting a slight 25 squeezing effect upon the walls of the flexible casing It, some of the wax content will be expressed from the open end or mouth thereof, and as the rubbing action is carried on the brushlike elements or wiping fingers it will be wiped back and forth over the surface treated so as to spread the emitted wax material in the form of a film upon said surface. The squeezing pressure exerted by the hand of the manipulator will be transmitted to the corrugated holder sheets, 5 so that a wax expressing or expelling effect will be well distributed throughout the internal wax holding structure formed by the latter, and consequently the wax material will be sufficiently worked or kneaded to assure the desired degree of compressive and emissive movement thereof. As the wax content diminishes, the squeezing action is increased so as to gradually collapse the flexible casing ill as well as the corrugations of the holder sheets l2, whereby eventually the entire wax content of the applicator may be extruded, and after being exhausted, the applicator may then be discarded.

In order to preserve the expressible content of the applicator until usethereof is desired, the applicator may be initially sealed in an external container (not shown) of any suitable character; or a removable slip cover (not shown) may be initially telescopically fitted over the open end portion of the applicator casing.

From the above description it Will be understood that I have provided a novel form of wax or like applicator, in which the wax or like material is packed for commercial distribution, subject to gradual expression from the applicator casing when the applicator is put to use.

I am aware that many changes could be made in the above described constructions, and that many apparently different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof as defined by the following claims. It is therefore intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

1. An applicator for the purposes described, comprising a casing having an open end, said casing. being made of flexible impervious material, a core member filling the interior of said casing and terminating adjacent to the open end thereof, said core member comprising a plurality of corrugated holder sheets the channels of which extend longitudinally through the casing interior to the open mouth thereof, partition sheets disposed intermediate adjacent holder sheets, and masses of expressible wax material filling said holder sheet channels.

An applicator for the purposes described, comprising a casing having an open end, said casing being made of flexible impervious material, a core member filling the interior of said casing and terminating adjacent to the open end thereof, said core member comprising a plurality of corrugated holder sheets disposed in parallel relation and providing channels constituting holding chambers extending vertically between the closed and open ends of said casing, and

masses of expressible wax material filling said holding chambers.

An applicator for the purposes described, comprising a casing having an open end, said casing being made of flexible impervious material, a core member filling the interior of said casing and terminating adjacent to the open end thereof, said core member comprising a plurality of corrugated holder sheets disposed in parallel relation and providing channels constituting holding chambers extending verticallyf between the closed and open ends or" said casing, partition sheets disposed intermediate said holder sheets and contiguous thereto, and masses of expressible wax material filling the holding chambers of said holder sheets.

An applicator for the purposes described, comprising a casing having an open end, said casing being made of flexible impervious material, a core member filling the interior of said casing and terminating adjacent to the open end thereof, said core member comprising a plurality of corrugated holder sheets disposed in parallel relation and providing channels constituting holding chambers extending vertically between the closed and open ends of said casing, partition sheets disposed intermediate said holder sheets and contiguous thereto, and masses of expressib le wax material filling the holding chambers of said holder sheets, said partition sheets having free marginal portions projecting outwardly from the open end of said casing and beyond the adjacent margins of said holder sheets, and said free marginal portions of said partition sheets being slitted to form the same into a plurality of Wiping fingers.
