Description

G. A. QUETIN May 23, 1939.
CLASP Filed Nov. 22, 1938 Inventor feog/y/x mj vi Que 77/7 Patented May 23, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in hairpins of the clasp type, and the principal object in view is to provide an easily opened and closed device of this character for clasping a large number of hair strands without same.
tangling the Another object is to provide a device of the character and for the purpose above set forth,
which is strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture and may be easily hidden in the hair.
Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, to-
gether with the precise nature of my improvement will be readily understood from the succeeding description and claim when read with reference to the drawing accompanying and forming part of the specification.
In said drawing: Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a preferred embodiment of my invention,
f Figure 2' is a view in edge elevation,
Figure 3 is a view in transverse section taken I on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction indicated by the arrows;
Referring to the drawing by numerals, in the illustrated embodiment thereof, my improved clasp comprises a pair of semi-circular fiat clasping jaws I, 2, of any suitable metal, pivotally connected together at one end, as at 3,for movement toward and from each other into closing and opening positions, respectively, and forming in the closed position thereof, a circle. The free ends of the jaws I and 2 are formed into laterally bent hooks 4 adapted, in the closed position of the jaws, to wipe past each other and interlock with a snap action.
Each jaw I, 2, has extending from the inner edge thereof a series of pin-like resilient prongs and, close in slightly spaced relation under closing of said jaws with the prongs in said series aligned in end to end relation and said prongs and jaws occupying a common plane.
In the use of the described clasp, the jaws, I,
2, are opened and placed in position to clasp the 5 hair and then closed and interlocked in a manner which will be clear, under which operation the series of prongs 5 are forced through the strand of the hair and the latter enclosed by the jaws I and 2, thereby binding the strand tol) gether, with the prongs inserted through or between the strands and thereby keeping the same from becoming tangled.
The foregoing will, it is believed, suffice to impart a clear understanding of my invention withl out further explanation.
Manifestly, the invention as described is susceptible of" modification without departing from the inventive concept and right is herein reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the subjoined claim.
What I claim is:
A clasp for use in the hair comprising a pair of semi-circular clasp jaws pivotally connected together at one end for relative swinging movement toward and from each other into closing and opening positions, respectively, and forming in the closing position thereof an annular frame and a series of pin-like prongs extending from the inner edge of each jaw in laterally u spaced parallel relation, the prongs in said series aligningvin end to end equidistantly spaced relation in the closing position of the jaws and occupying a common plane, the free-ends of the jaws being bent to form hooks interlocking with a snap action in the closed position of the jaws, said prongs in the closing position of the jaws extending at right angles to a diametrical center line of the frame passing through said pivotal connection and the free ends of the jaws, and said series of prongs in the closing position of the jaws completely filling the frame.
