An object of the invention is to provide the a guide pin 8 which is secured to an outer clamp- 5 lo'can be placed in any one of several positions 1. The two guide plates 5 and9 are bowed trans- 1 character which is simple in construction, ef- .cohteiner and to thrust against handle 7 so at 15 Patented May 23, 1939 V I i l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MEASURING CUP Orrin E. 65 is soldered or otherwise fastened to the arm 4 said false bottom is fitted snugly in the container, the pressure of the two plates 5 and 9 upon the wall of the container is relieved for adjustment purposes simply by pressing the upper end of handle 1 inwardly toward the container. This will cause the false bottom 6 to swing downwardly and the plate 5 to swing inwardly relative to the slotted wall after which adjustment can be quickly effected as heretofore pointed out.
What is claimed is:
1. A measuring cup including a longitudinally slotted container, a false bottom slidable therein, arms connected to the false bottom and slidable within the slot, a gripping plate fixedly connected to the arms and within the container, a gripping plate movably mounted on the outside of the container, a handle connecting the outer 'ends of the arms, and a compression spring in terposed between the handle and the outer plate for holding the two plates normally clamped upon the slotted wall of the container.
'2. A measuring cup including a longitudinally slotted container, a false bottom slidable therein, upwardly diverging arms connected to the bottom and slidable within the slot, a handle carried by the outer ends of the arms, inner and outer clamping plates carried by the arms, the inner plate being fixed to the arms and the outer plate being slidable thereon, and a spring housed within the handle for simultaneously pulling through the handle and arms upon the inner plate and exerting a thrust against the outer plate. I
3. A measuring cup including a longitudinally slotted container, a false bottom slidable therein, upwardly diverging arms connected to the bottom and slidable within the slot, a handle carried by the outer ends of the arms, inner and outer clamping plates carried by the arms, the inner plate being fixed to the arms and the outer plate being slidable thereon, and a spring housed within the handle for simultaneously pulling through the handle and arms upon the inner plate and exerting a thrust against the outer plate, said handle being shiftable relative to the container to place the spring under increased compression and move the inner plate away from the outer plate, thereby to release the arms and false bottom for sliding movement relative to the container.
4. A measuring cup including a longitudinally slotted container, a false bottom slidable therein, upwardly diverging arms connected to the bottom and slidable within the slot, a handle carried by the outer ends of the arms, inner and outer clamping plates carried by the arms, the inner plate being fixed to the arms and the outer plate being slidable thereon, a spring housed within the handle for simultaneously pulling through the handle and arms upon the inner plate and exerting a thrust against the outer plate, said handle being shiftable relative to the container to place the spring under increased compression and move the inner plate away from the outer plate, thereby to release the arms and false bottom for sliding movement relative to the container, and cooperating means on the handle and container for indicating the capacity of the container when the false bottom is moved to any one of several positions.
