Patented Apr. 18, 1939 UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to an inclosure adapted to protect the user therein against insects and dampness.
Among the objects of my invention are to provide a device in which a user or users may sleep or eat with unlimited fresh air, sunshine and coolness and yet which will protect gainst discomfort from insects, snakes, grasshoppers and the like and against dampness; to provide means in which a cot, bedding or picnic table and chairs may be positioned and the users therein protected; to create a device light enough to be portable and yet sufliciently strong in construction to be lasting in use; to supply a member having means for easy entry and exist of the user, and means for forming a perfect closure and such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear which are inherently possessed by my invention.
Referring to the drawing Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of my health protection member for sleeping; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the head portion of the embodiment shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of another embodiment of my invention, particularly for use over picnic tables.
While I have shown preferred embodiments herein of my invention, yet I wish it understood that the same are susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to one embodiment selected to illustrate my invention it comprises a at floor or bottom member I0 of preferably heavy waterproof material such as canvas or the like. Sewed or otherwise permanently attached to each of the edges of the floor member I0 are abbreviated side portions II, abbreviated foot portion I2 and a larger head portion I3, all of the same kind of material as the floor member III. Sewed or otherwise permanently attached to each of the upper edges of the side portions II are side portions I4 of heavy mosquito-proof netting. Also sewed or otherwise permanently attached to the upper edges of the foot portion I2 and head portion I3 are foot and head portions I5 and I6 respectively of heavy mosquito-proof netting.
A flat top member I'I of heavy mosquito-proof material has its outer edge sewed or otherwise permanently attached to the upper edge of the side portion I4 and the foot and head portions I5 and I6.
A substantially narrow reinforcing strip I8 of heavy material such as canvas permanently attached by sewing on the like to each of the outer edges of the top member I1 as they meet and are attached to the upper edges of the side portions I4 and the foot and head portions I5 and A substantially narrow reinforcing strip I9 is permanently attached by sewing on the like to each of the corners 20 and extend upwardly and are bent over and are permanently attached to the top member I1.
The inner ends of ties 20 are attached to each of the strips I9 preferably at their top and bottom portions to be attached to a pole 2l adapted to be driven into the ground or otherwise held at the base and having notches 22 to prevent slipping of the ties 20. 15
Beginning at the foot portion I2 and continuing around into one of the side portions I I I provide an opening 23 and a slide fastener 24 for closing the same. The position and extent of my opening 23 and slide fastener 24 may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention so long as the user may be able to enter my health protection member with reasonable ease and upon entry may close himself completely therein by the mere operation of the slide fastener.
Another embodiment of my invention more particularly shown in Fig. 2 provides a health protecting means in the shape of a room adapted to be used for picnic purposes so that the table, chairs and picnickers may be within the member and protected from mosquitoes, flies and other nuisances. My structure is the "same as the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 with the addition of a three sides opening 25 in the bottom member IIJ with a slide fastener 24 adapted when opened to form a flap 26 so as to enable the entire member to be placed over the picnic table. The slide fastener could then be closed to form a closed bottom IIJ. Another difference between this embodiment and my other embodiment is that instead of a horizontal opening 23 in side portion II I provide a vertical opening in one of the reinforcing strips I9 with a slide fastener 24 for entry and Withdrawal.
With my embodiment shown in Fig. 1, I may make it large enough for one or more persons and also of sucient size so that a cot, bed or bedding may be placed therein. Upon the user or users entering my health protection member 50 through the opening the slide fastener may then be operated to close the opening and completely shut the user or users therein. Complete protection is then assured with perfect comfort.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
A device of the character described comprising a bottom member of heavy water-proof material, abbreviated side, foot and head portions of water-proof material attached to outer edges of said bottom member, side, foot and head portions of mosquito-proof netting attached at their lower edges to the upper edges of the abbreviated side, foot and head portions, a top member of heavy mosquito-proof netting attached at its outer edges to the upper edges of the side, foot and head portionsof. the mosquito-proof netting of the water-proof material, a plurality of Vsaid abbreviated side, foot and head portions having a continuous opening, and a slide fastener for closy A ing said opening, a plurality of substantially nar Y foot and head portions, a plurality of substantiV ally narrow vertical strips attached to the side edges of said side, foot and head portions, the upper ends of said strips attached to said top member, straps attached tol each of said Vertical stripsadjacent their upper; and lower ends, and notched poles positioned in the ground, said Vstraps adapted to be tied to said poles.
