Patented Mar. 28, 1939 LAMP HOLDER FOR REFRIGERATORS OR THE LIKE Frank C. De Reamer, Bridgeport, Conn., assignor to General Electric Company, a corporation 01' New York Application October 16, 1937, Serial N... 169,425
4 Claims. (01. 240-102) This invention relates to a lamp holder for the locking prongs of the lamp guard, so that use in devices such as refrigerator cabinets or the guard cannot slip off the lamp holder without the like. disengagement of the clamping member 20.
It is an object of the invention to secure a It is desirable that the locking'ends of the guard lamp holder for use in a refrigerator cabinet, or make contact with the resilient support H where the like, and more particularly to lock the lamp holder in position by means of the lamp guard within the support by cooperation with the flange which is used to protect the lamp. I5. In this manner retraction of the lamp holder Referring to the drawing Fig. l is a view of the from the resilient support is prevented by the lamp and lamp holder mounted in a refrigerator prongs contacting the support II. The guard has cabinet; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the lamp an upstanding portion 2| covering the end of any holder and guard; Fig. 3 is a view of the resilient lamp which may be inserted in the holder and support and lamp holder in position to be assembled; Fig. 4 is a view of the resilient support and in the refrigerator. The resilient mounting acts l5 lamp holder in assembled relationship, and Fig. ,to absorb any blows transmitted to it by dis- 5 is an end view of the resilient support. turbance of the lamp holder during normal use Fig. 1 shows the lamp holder assembly In in of the refrigerator compartment. operative position in a refrigerator cabinet C. The invention constructed as described above The assembly is more clearly shown in Figs. 2 provides a simple and efficient means to lock the to 5, inclusive, and comprises a resilient support lamp holder in the support. The guard not only II of rubber, or the like, which is press fitted into acts to protect the lamp but cooperates with the the wall I2 of the refrigerator cabinet, the edges lamp holder to lock it in the support. Separate of the wall being seated in a recess l3 formed locking means for the lamp holder are unnecesaround the periphery of the resilient support. sary with the construction shown, and hence the An opening H is formed in the support to receive lamp holder assembly may be easily and ecoa lamp holder. The resilient support II is subnomically manufactured resulting in a considerstantially circular in form but is provided with able saving in cost. beveled side portions l l forming part of the While I have illustrated and described the inrecess I 3 which engage the wall of the cabinet vention as applied to a refrigeratorcabinet, it
and prevent the support from rotating in the is to be understood that the invention is not cabinet wall. The opening Il is formed with limited to this use necessarily but may be used corresponding beveled surfaces H. wherever found applicable.
A lamp holder I4 is designed to mate with What I claim as new and desire to secure by the opening H in the support and has a flanged Letters Patent of the United States is:
portion I5 which is seated in an annular grooved 1. In a lamp holder assembly, a support adaptportion l6 forming a channel in the rubber suped to be mounted in a wall and having an openport. The lamp hclderisfibvided with hameting therein, a lamp holder nested in said openrically opposed beveled faces or recesses ll which ing, said lamp holder having a flange engaging mate with the beveled surfaces l I forming part one side of said support and being provided with of the opening ll. abutment surfaces on the other side of said sup- The lamp holder is tightly pressed within the port, and a lamp guard carried by said lamp hold- ,opening H and the interengaging beveled porer on the other side of said support, said guard tions 11 and II prevent rotation of the lamp having spaced arms engaging said abutment surholder as a lamp is being screwed or unscrewed faces and cooperating with said flange to lock therein. The beveled faces I! are adapted to said lamp holder in said support.
receive the locking prongs I8 of a lamp guard l9. '2. In a lamp holder assembly, a resilient sup- The guard may be made of wire and may be port adapted to be mounted in a wall, said supformed in substantially U-shape, the locking ends port having an opening with a channel portion grippingly engaging the beveled portions I! of therein, a lamp holder adapted to fit in said openthe lamp holder and being clamped thereto by ing, said lamp holder having a flange engaging the sliding clamp member 20. The locking ends said channel portion on one side of said wall and are held in the recesses I! behind the ears Il being provided with abutment surfaces on the which are formed by the depressed recesses. The opposite side of said wall, and a lamp guard upstanding ears l'l form abutment surfaces l'l clamped to said lamp holder on the opposite side which are adjacent the recesses I1 and engage of said wall engaging said abutment surfaces and they act to retain the lamp holder in position thus protecting it from damage while being used cooperating with said flange whereby said lamp holder is fixedly held in said support.
3. In a lamp holder assembly for a refrigerator cabinet, a resilient support adapted to be mounted in the wall of said cabinet, said support having an opening with a'channel portion therein, a
lamp holder formed with opposed beveled faces,
said lamp holder being adapted to fit said opening andsaid lamp holder having a flanged portion nesting with said channel portion on one side of said wall, a lamp guard having opposed prongs adapted to engage said beveled portions on the other side of said wall and a locking member slidable on said prongs and adapted to lock said prongs to said beveled portions.
4. In a lamp holder assembly, a lamp holder adapted to be mounted in an opening in a wall,
said lamp holder being formed with a flange and 5 with said flange to lock the lamp holder in said 10 opening.
