The parts a V In the accompanying drawing one construcand 17 thereby become fast but are mutually distional form of the invention is illustrated, and placeab'le in the longitudinal direction. The takany difliculty by sliding the long member a away from the dovetail e.
It should be understood that the invention is not restricted solely to the details of construction of the form described above, which may be modified in various ways without departing from the scope of the invention. For instance, instead of assembling the part b and the plate (1 by means of dovetailed bevelling of the edges, any other form of mutually positioning the parts, such as a prismatic arrangement, may be adopted. It' is not necessary for the part e to projectdownwardly from the plate at, and if it does not project in the manner shown the assembly and location of the plate d relatively to the part b may be effected by means of abutments or bevels on the top or bottom edges of the rectangular aperture of the member b and/or the plate d. The parts 0 and d are not necessarily rectangular, but may be given any other preferred shape, as desired.
Having described my invention, I declare that what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-
1. A spaceband for a matrix composing and type line casting machine comprising relatively movable members, wherein one of said members is formed of parts having suitably shaped portions to be detachably assembled by interfitting engagement and being adapted to be held together by their assembly with the other member to form, the complete spaceband.
2. A spaceband for a matrix composing and type line casting machine comprising three parts detachably connected, two of said parts being shaped to fit together and be movable, as a unit, relatively to theother part and being held together by their assembly with said other part to form the complete spaceband.
3. A spaceband for a matrix composing and type line casting machine comprising a long wedge member, having a dovetailed groove, a shorter wedge member, and a separate connecting piece associated with the shorter member by interfitting engagement therewith and having a dovetailed guide for engaging said dovetailed groove to hold said long and shorter wedge members in movable relation, said members and connecting piece being held together by their interfitting engagement with one another.
4. A spaceband according to claim 3, wherein said shorter wedge member is apertured, said connecting piece extending through said aperture so that the dovetailed guide projects beyond one side of the shorter wedge'member, said connecting piece being adapted to prevent removal of the shorter wedge member laterally away from the longer wedge member when the spaceband is assembled.
5. A spaceband for a matrix composing and type line casting machine comprising a long Wedge member with, a longitudinal dovetailed groove, a shorter wedge member having an aperture with bevelled edges, and a removable con- 7 necting piece having a dovetailed guide on one side adapted slidably to engage in said dovetailed groove, said connecting piece being adapted to fit into said aperture and having bevelled edges cor-' bination, a pair of relatively movable comp1e mentary wedge-shaped members presenting inner surfaces in bearing contact, and a removable connecting'element having a tight fitting tongue and groove connection with one member and a sliding connection with the other member to hold the members against facewise movement.
