' POLISHER Filed Aug. 17, 1938 Horatio Martelli INVENTOR ATTO R N EYS Patented Feb. 28, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application August 1'7,
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a polisher and more especially to a silver polisher.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, wherein a polishing strip, preferably of sponge rubber, is fitted to a stock and the latter is of a special construction so as to enable the polishing in congested or restricted areas of silverware, and, as an example, spoons, platters or other irregularly shaped articles.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, wherein the stock carrying the polishing strip, preferably of sponge rubber, is formed with a handle end so that the article can be conveniently manipulated for polishing purposes.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character, which is simple in its construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in operation, readily and easily handled, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of an article constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan view looking toward the polishing side of the article.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
1938, Serial No. 225,431
Referring to the drawing in detail, the article is designated generally at A and comprises a stock, preferably made from wood although it may be made from any other suitable material, and involves an elongated main body portion I0 having formed at one end a handle II, which is in line with the body Ill.
The body II] at one side thereof is cut away to form the major and minor flat insets l2 and [3, respectively, while overlying these major and minor insets is a polishing strip 14 preferably made from sponge rubber. The major and minor portions l2 and I3 are separated from each other by an outwardly directed tapering projection I5 so that the polishing strip M will have the curvilinear outwardly directed offset This oifset I6 is designed specially for contacting with contracted or congested areas as well as concaved. and convexed surfaces of articles of silverware, for example, spoons, platters or the like.
The polishing strip l4, preferably of sponge rubber, makes contact with the surface to be polished and on reciprocatory movement of the polisher such surface can be polished with minimum labor and with rapidity.
The strip I4 is made secure in place upon the stock, that is, the body l0 thereof, in any desirable manner.
What is claimed is:
A polisher of the character described comprising a stock forming a body, the said body being cut into to form major and minor straight insets and an intermediate projection therebetween, and a polishing medium extended over such insets and the projection.
HORATIO MARTELLI.
