This invention has to do with amusement or game devicesand is in the nature of an improvement upon a game device of the type disclosed in prior United States Letters Patent, No.

In a game of the character set forth, the player standing in a playing position at a distance from a vertically disposed base having outwardly projecting pegs attempts to swing a suspended ring onto the pegs. If successful, the player is required to walk from his position to remove the ring from the pegs and return to the playing position.

The present invention is directed to means controlled by the player from the playing position for displacing the ring from any one of the pegs without the necessity of leaving the playing position.

More particularly the invention resides in providing remotely controlled manually actuated means for retracting the pegs from a normal position projecting through the base to thereby displace the rings therefrom.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention is set forth in greater detail in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claims which cover variations and modifications thereof.

Referring to the drawing by characters of reference, l0 designates a base having a plane surface II and a plurality of projections or pegs l2 projecting outwardly from the plane surface and preferably arranged in arcuate spaced relation.

Secured to the base l0 and projecting outwardly and upwardly therefrom is an arm 14 from the free end of which is suspended, by means of a flexible cord IS, a ring l6 which is adapted upon swinging movement to be engaged over any one of the projections or pegs 12 by a player standing in a playing position at a distance from the base Ill. The free end of the arm I4 is located at a point which is substantially the radius of the arc upon which the pegs or projections l2 are arranged.

The present invention'is directed to means for displacing the ring 16 from any one of the pegs l2 which means is controlled and actuated by the player without the necessity of his leaving the playing position.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 1 to 4 of the drawing, the pegs l2 are secured at their inner ends to a strip l'l located in the rear of the base I0 with the pegs slidably projecting through openings l8 therein. Secured to the rear face of the base Ill is an angle bracket l9 having a downturned end 20 provided with an opening 2| therein in which is received a rod 22 projecting rearwardly from the strip I1, said rod in the present instance being threadedly anchored in the central peg l2. The rod 22 is slidable in the opening 2| to cooperate with the pegs l2 slidable in the openings l8 for guidedly mounting the strip I! for movement from a normal position adjacent the base II] with the pegs in active position projecting through the openings ill, to a retracted position spaced from the base In and with the pegs retracted to a position disposing their outer ends substantially flush with the outer face of the base l0 and vice-versa.

In order to provide remotely controlled means adapted to be actuated by the player for moving the pegs 12 to the retracted position, a pull cord 23 is trained through a guide opening 24 in the downturned end 20 of the angle bracket [9 with the inner end of the cord connected to the strip I! and the free terminal end thereof preferably provided with a manipulating knob 25 adapted to be grasped by the player for exerting a. pull on the cord and a consequent rearward movement of the strip I! and a retraction of the pegs l2 to dislodge the ring l6 engaged over any one of said pegs. In order to effect the movement of the pegs 12 to their active position projecting through the openings l8 and to tension the same against retraction thereof, a coiled expansion spring 26 surrounds the rod 22 and is interposed between the strip l1 and the downturned end 20 of the bracket In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawing, the rod 3 0 is secured to the downturned end 20 of the angle bracket l9 and extends forwardly thereof into a bore 3| in the central peg l2 and which bore 3| is of sufiicient depth to permit of the sliding of the central peg l2 on the rod 30 to dispose the strip I1 and pegs l 2 in retracted position with the ends of the pegs substantially flush with the outer face of the base 10. In this form of the invention, the coiled expansion spring 26 likewise functions to move the strip I! and pegs l2 from retracted position to a normal position with the pegs protruding through the openings 18 for receiving the ring l6 thereover.

What is claimed is: 1 I

1. In a game device, a base having a substantially vertically disposed plane forward surface and being formed with a plurality of spaced openings extending transversely therethrough, a strip located at the rear of the base, a plurality of pegs carried by said strip and protruding forwardly thereof in sliding engagement with said openings, means for normally moving the strip to a position to dispose the pegs in protruding relation with said openings and outwardly from said plane surface, a ring suspended for swinging movement for engagement over said pegs, and manually controlled means for retracting the strip and the pegs to a position to dispose the outer end of the pegs adjacent the plane surface of the base for displacing the ring from the pegs when engaged thereon.

In a game device, a base having a substantially vertically disposed plane forward surface and being formed with a plurality of spaced openings extending transversely therethrough, a strip located at the rear of the base, a plurality of pegs carried by said strip and protruding forwardly thereof in sliding engagement with'said openings, means disposed at the rear of the base engaging said strip for exerting a tension thereon to normally move the same to a position to dispose the pegs in protruding relation with said openings and outwardly from the plane surface of the base, a ring suspended for swinging movement for engagement over said pegs,- and manually controlled means for retracting the strip and the pegs against the action of said first mentioned means to a position to dispose the outer ends of the pegs adjacent the plane surface of the base for dislodging the ring from the pegs when engage thereon.

In a game device, a base having a substantially vertically disposed plane forward surface and being formed with a plurality of spaced openings extending transversely therethrough, a strip located at the rear of the base, a. plurality of pegs carried by said strip and protruding forwardly thereof in sliding engagement with said openings, means carried by the base and disposed at the rear thereof for'exerting a tension on the strip to normally move the same to a position to dispose the pegs in protruding relation with said openings and outwardly from the plane surface of the base, a ring suspended for swinging movement for engagement over said pegs, manually controlled means for retracting the strip and the pegs against the action of said first mentioned means to a position to dispose the outer ends of the pegs adjacent the plane surface of the base for dislodging the ring from the pegs when engaged thereon, and means at the rear of the base for guiding the strip in its movements.

In a game device, a base having a substantially vertically disposed plane forward surface and being formed with an opening extending transversely therethrough, a peg mounted for sliding movement in said opening, means for normally moving the peg to an active position protruding through said opening and projecting outwardly from said plane surface, a ring suspended for swinging movement for engagement over said peg, and manually controlled means for retracting the peg to a position disposing the outer end'thereof adjacent the plane surface of the base for displacing the ring from the peg when engaged thereon.

In a game device, a base having a substantially vertically disposed plane forward surface and being formed with a plurality of arcuately spaced openings extending transversely therethrough, a strip located at the rear of the base, a plurality of pegs carried by said strip and protruding forwardly thereof in sliding engagement with said openings, a ring suspended for swinging movement for engagement over said pegs, a bracket carried by the base at the rear thereof, an expansion spring interposed between said bracket and said strip for normally moving the same to a position to dispose the pegs in protruding relation with said openings and outwardly from said plane surface, manually controlled means for retracting the strip and the pegs against the action of said spring to a position to dispose the outer ends of the pegs adjacent the plane surface for displacing the ring from the pegs when engaged thereover, and interengaging means carried by the bracket and strip for guiding the strip in its movements.

6. In a game device, a base having a substantially vertically disposed plane forward surface and being formed with a plurality of arcuately spaced openings extending transversely therethrough, a strip located at the rear of the base, a plurality of pegs carried by said strip and protruding forwardly thereof in sliding engagement with said openings, a ring suspended for swinging movement for engagement over said pegs, a bracket carried by the base at the rear thereof, an expansion spring interposed between said bracket and said strip for normally moving the same to a position to dispose the pegs in protruding relation with said openings and outwardly from said plane surface, manually controlled means for retracting the strip and the pegs against the action of said spring to a position to dispose the outer ends of the pegs adjacent the plane surface for displacing the ring from the pegs when engaged thereover, and means carried by the bracket and engaging an opening in one of said pegs for guiding the strip in its movements.
