This invention relates to a crane or hoist mounted on a truck, the general Object of the invention being to provide means whereby the boom and its supporting member can be collapsed and located in the body of the truck and said body closed, sothat the truck can be used in the ordinary manner of such vehicles.
Another object of the invention is to make the parts readily accessible and easy to manipulate so the hoist can be easily and quickly put into operation and collapsed after being used.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of theelements to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in theaccompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in 'the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding elements throughout the several views.

shown generally at 3, is composed of longitudinal and transverse beams, and said base supports the spaced pair of longitudinal beams 4. The lower part B of the boom is pivoted to intermediate parts of the beams 4, by the bar 5, and this lower part is composed of the pair of channel members 6, spaced apart to form a guideway for the upper part I of the boom which is in the shape of'a single beam, as shown. The members 6 are braced by the angle members 8; which are 4.5 also pivoted on the bar 5. A cross plate 9 extends across and is connected to the channel members 6, at intermediate parts thereof and a similar plate H] is connected to the free ends of said members and on the under side thereof.
These plates are engaged by the upper and lower faces of the beam 1.

- The boom is held in raised position by the leg member ll, of frame-like form, and pivoted on a crosspiece 22 carried by the plates t at the ends of the beams 4. The drum l5'is mounted on a shaft 23 journaled in the front ends of the beams t and one it end of the shaft has a gear N thereon with which mesh es a pinion 25 on a shaft 26, also journaled in the beams 4. A ratchet wheel H is connected with the pinion and is engaged by a dog 28 to prevent retrograde movement of the drum. This 20 dog is connected by a link 29 with a lever 3t pivoted at its front end to one of the beams i and the rear end of this has a spring 3| connected thereto. The other end of the spring is connected to an ear 32 on a cross rod 33 having bent ends 25 34, which form handles for turning the rod, which is supported for rocking movement in the bearings 35 on the beams 4. The drum and its operating parts are located in the front part of the body I and the sides of the body has openings so 36, which are'opposite the ends of the shaft 26, so a crank handle 31 can be engaged with either end of the shaft to rotate the same. This handle is shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4.
Thus it will be seen that by turning the shaft 35 26 the drum will be rotated to raise the boom, after the doors are opened, and after the boom has been raised the leg member 2i is swung upwardly to engage the-plate Ill, which will hold the boom in raised position.- Then the beam 1 is slid it) 1 outwardly and it is held in this position by a pin 38 placed in a hole in the beam l and abutting the end of the lower part of the boom as shown in Fig. 3. When the boom has been 001- lapsed into the body and thedoors closed, all it parts of-the boom are enclosed and the flat top of the body can be used for hauling purposes.
While the drawings show a crank handle for rotating shaft 26 by hand it will be understood that this shaft can be rotated from the motor of the vehicle by suitable connections or by a separate motor.

It is to be understood changes may be made in the construction, combination and arrangement of the several elements, provided the same fall within'the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination with a truck having a body, a supporting frame in the body, a telescopic boom pivotally connected with said frame and located in the body when collapsed and swung downwardly, and a pivoted brace for holding the boom in raised position, said body having an open top for the passage of the boom when in raised position and door means for closing the body when the boom is lowered into the body.
2. In combination with a truck having a boxlike body, door means for closing the top of the body, a telescopic boom having its front end pivotally supported in the body, a pivoted brace in the body for holding the boom in raised position, a drum in the front part of the body, a cable connected to the drum, a. pulley carried by the free end of the boom and over which the cable passes, means for rotating the drum and manually controlled ratchet means for preventing the cable from unwinding from the drum until'said means are released, said boom and its brace being located in the body when in lowered position.
