Description

4411.24, 1939. T. J. DARUNGTON 2,144,969
CLOTHESLINE F11-ed Jan. 5, 1938 INVENTOR ATTO R N EYS Patented Jan. 24, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in clotheslines and more particularly to a type readily adjustable between supports.
One of the principal objects of my invention is to pro-vide a clothesline assembly equipped with means for readily attaching the same between a pair of supports whereby the line may be maintained in taut condition for use.
Another object of my invention is to provide y a clothesline assembly having means for readily adjusting the line between a pair of supports to maintain the line in a taut condition.
A further object of my invention is to provide a device of the above described character equipped with vacuum attaching means for readily attaching the line to supports.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my invention illustrating the clothesline assembly attached to a pair of supports.
Fig. 2 is a similar view to Figure 1 wherein the locking member is illustrated in another locking position.
Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view illustrating the locking member in the position shown in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a detail sectional view illustrating the locking member in the position shown in Figure 2.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary top plan View illustrating the locking member in the position shown in Figures 2 and 4.
Fig. 6 is a front elevation of one of the support attaching members.
40 Fig. 7 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 'I--l of Figure 6.
In practicing my invention I provide a pair of support attaching members 5, preferably vacuum cups, each of which are fashioned on the outer faces thereof with lugs 6 having apertures 1 formed therethrough for receiving a length of a clothesline 8. Said cups are attached to oppositely disposed supports 9, for instance the walls of a room or other suitable supporting mediums.
A length of one end of the line 8 is inserted through the aperture I in one of the lugs 6 and secured thereto by means of a knot I0. A length of the opposite end is fashioned with a loop II and secured in looped configuration by means of a twine wrapping I2 or the like. The
loop II embraces an intermediate section of the line to form a loop section I3 slidably connected, through the medium of the aperture 'I of the lug 6, to the oppositely disposed cup 5.
A locking member or disk I4 is mounted on the line between the cups 5 and slidable within the loop section I3.
In use, the cups 5 are attached to the supports 9 in the well known manner and the loop I I moved towards the end of the line having the knot I0 to effect a taut condition to the line. In this position of the line the disk I4 is likewise moved in the same direction to effect engagement with the end section of the line having the loop II formed thereon and thereby dispose the end having the loop I I, in the instance of the form illustrated in Figures 1 Aand 2, atan angle to the intermediate or main run 'section of the line and said disk is maintainedin this position by the stress of the line and effects a locking of the loop II to the intermediate or main run section of the line.
In the position of the disk I4 illustrated in Figures 2, 4 and 5 of the drawing, the disk is moved to a position adjacent the loop I I and canted for further movement towards the loop I I to position the loop II in engagement with a lateral face of the disk and inflect a portion of the intermediate or main run section of the line at an angle relative to the loop I I thereby effecting a locking engagement of the loop section with the main run section when the line is in stressed condition.
From the foregoing, it will be apparent that by means of my .assembly a clothesline may be readily attached between a pair of supports and adjusted therebetween in a manner whereby to maintain the line in a taut condition.
What I claim is:
l. A device of the character described, comprising, a pair of support .attaching members adapted to be secured to oppositely disposed supports, a flexible line having one end secured to one of said members and the other end slidably looped to the other of said members and terminating in a loop section embracing said line between said members, and a locking member adjustably carried on said line and engaged by the end of said line adjacent said loop section and angularly disposing a portion of said line embraced by said locking member to effect a locking of said loop section to said line when said line is in adjusted condition between said attaching members.
2. A device of the character described, comprising, a pair of vacuum cups adapted to be secured to oppositely disposed supports, a exible line having one end secured to one of said cups and the other end slidably connected to an intermediate section of said line to form a loop slidably connected to the other of said cups, a disk adjustable on said line ,and engaged by the last mentioned end to dispose a section of said line at an angle to another section of said line whereby to effect locking adjustment of said line between said cups.
3. A clothesline assembly for attachment to a pair of spaced supports comprising a exible line having Xed and free end sections, a pair of suction devices carried by said line, said fixed maintaining said member in adjusted position.
on said line for effecting locking of said sections together when said line is in adjusted position between said supports.
