Description

Patented Jan. 24, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQE WEB DISPENSER MOUNTING poration of Wisconsin Application February 20,
5 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in web dispenser mountings, and has particular reference to an assembly of core and bracket parts.
It is the primary object of the invention to 5 provide a novel and improved core and bracket assembly of such a nature as to facilitate the mounting of the core and to assure that rolls of webbing mounted in the dispenser for service therein will have authorized cores. In other l' words, it is an object of the invention to prevent or discourage the use of the device for dispensing competitive web material. Another purpose is to provide a novel and improved slide bracket for mounting the cores upon which the rolls of webbing are to be carried for dispensing purposes.
vIn the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of dispensing apparatus embodying this invention as it appears with the front of the case open to expose the core and bracket assembly, portions of the core being broken away to an axial section.
Figure-'2 is a view taken in section on the line 2 2 of Figure 3.
Figure 3 is a view taken in section on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Like parts are identied by the same reference characters throughout the several views.
The dispensing mechanism per se forms no part of the present invention and will be covered in a companion application, Serial No. 76,442 iiled April 25, 1936, by Frank P. Vaughan, Albert G. Krueger and Norman J. Slye, and entitled Dispensers for paper articles.
All of the parts are preferably assembled upon the back 4 for a dispenser case 5. The back is provided with means whereby it is suitably mounted upon the wall or other-support, and in addition to the usual marginal anges 6, 1 and 8, it carries a Wider supporting ange 9 upon which the case 5 is pivoted by means of the pintle I9. When the case is swung forwardly and downwardly about pintle I0 to the position illustrated in Fig. 1, the bracket and core assembly mounted on the back 4 is fully exposed.
The core I5 may be made of bre or paper board, or the like, in the form of a tubular roll into one end of which is pressed the tting I6. This fitting has a number of arms I'I arranged to engage the inner periphery of the core roll l5 and provided with expressed lugs or teeth at I8 which will engage the material of the core roll to prevent the tting from being easily extracted therefrom. Beyond the arms Il the t- 1936, Serial No. 64,986
ting provides an annular bead I5 terminating in a radial flange at 20.
Rigidly secured to the back 4 is the bracket arm 22 which has a saucer-shaped circular recess at 23 to receive the bead portion I9 of the tting IE and thereby to provide rotatable support for the core I5.
At the opposite end of the core, the core engages over the exterior periphery of an inwardly formed boss 24 which is provided in the adjustable arm 25. Thev material of the boss portion 24 of arm 25 is punched through at 26 to make an irregular projection which is eccentrically located on the boss so that if any attempt be made to provide a wooden roller as a support for the conventional core, such roller will tend to rotate upon the punch projection 26 which, being eccentric, will give the roller an erratical movement and prevent it from operating satisfactorily in the device.
In order that the core I5 may be readily inserted and removed between the brackets 22 and 25, the bracket 25 isy preferably made extensible with reference to the back 4 of the dispenser. Bracket 25 is formed with an integral slide portion 21 operating through the flange 8 at the back and guided between the ears 28 and 29 which are formed forwardly from the integral metal of the back 4. Between the ears 28 and 29 there is a strap 39 connected integrally with the metal of the back at its ends and free thereof along its side margins for resilience. A lug at 3i struck up from strap 39 ts into a groove 32 in the slide member 2l to serve as a stop to limit the movement thereof. A similar lug 33 may be engaged in an aperture 34 of the slide by bending the strap rearwardly to permit the slide to pass over lug 33 until aperture 34 is registered therewith. 'Ihe registration is effected when the slide 21 is fully retracted so that the bracket arms 22 and 25 are both engaged with the core member I5.
The engagement of lug 33 in the aperture 34 of the slide holds the core member in place pending the closing of the dispenser casing 5 against the back. When the dispenser casing is moved upwardly to the position illustrated in Fig. 3, its sides conne the bracket arms 22 and 25 and reinforce such arms against separation. Thus the core cannot be removed or replaced without rst dropping the case to the position shown in Fig. i and then bending the strap 35 to release its lug 33 from aperture 34, whereupon the slide 2l will be drawn outwardly to the position illustrated in Fig. 1 to free the ends of core member l5.
It will be noted that due to fitting I6 the core member l is engaged with the interior of the boss 23 of bracket 22, although the opposite member is engaged With the exterior of the boss 24 and bracket 25. The two bosses are therefore of differing diameters and no ordinary core will fit the brackets. If an effort be made to mount an ordinary core upon a wooden roller, the ec. centrically located projection 26 will tend to permit such a roller to rotate upon a center other than its axis, whereby the roll of web carried thereby will be dislocated within the cabinet and will not feed properly through the dispensing mechanism.
We claim:
1. A dispenser comprising the combination with a mounting member, of a rst bracket arm projecting therefrom, a slide movable laterally of said mounting member with respect to said arm, a second bracket arm carried by said slide, means on said arms for removably supporting a core, and a dispenser case within which said arms are receivable when engaged with a core, said case having wall portions engageable about said arms for the confinement thereof against release of a core when said arms have been received into the case.
2. A dispenser comprising the combination with a mounting member, of a first bracket arm projecting therefrom, a slide movable laterally of said mounting member with respect to said arm, a second bracket arm carried by said slide, means on said arms for removably supporting a core, and a dispenser case within which said arms are receivable when engaged with a core, said case having a width only slightly greater than the spacing between said arms in the contracted position of said slide, whereby said case is substantially in face contact with said arms to prevent separation thereof when said case is positioned against said support.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a supporting back having a laterally extending strip connected with the back at its ends and free thereof along its margin, of a tongue projecting forwardly from said strip, means carried by the back and providing a guideway longitudinally of said strip, a Slide recipro cable along said guideway and provided with means adapted for interlocking engagement with said tongue, said strip being yieldable to permit such engagement, and bracket arms carried respectively by said support and said slide and projecting therefrom in spaced relation and provided with core supporting means.
4. In a dispenser, the combination with a support having a bearing surface against which the end of a roll is adapted to abut, said surface being embossed to provide a cup-shaped socket, a roll carrying core of smaller diameter than said socket terminating substantially flush with said surface, and a tting having means engaged within the end of said core, said tting projecting from means and being beaded annularly back upon itself to provide an external bearing surface tting said socket, whereby to position said core in such manner that the roll mounted thereon will substantially abut said first mentioned surface.
5. In a dispensing device, the combination with a supporting back comprising a plate member, of a bracket arm fixed adjacent one side of plate member, means formed integrally with said plate member providing a guideway adjacent the other side thereof, a slide member reciprocable along said guideway, a second bracket arm carried by said slide member for movement to and from the rst bracket arm, a spring plate formed integrally with one of said members and connected integrally therewith at both of its ends, and a latch element carried by an intermediate portion of said strip, the other of said members having means cooperable with said latch element for adjustably fixing the position of said slide member.
