The device is fundamentally in the nature of a card having means at one end for receiving a plurality of hooks and automatically turning them in uniform angular overlapping position with their sharp barbed ends protected the card has near its opposite end clamps for removably holding the snells in straight orderly positions.

The device is provided with various new and useful features of construction and arrangement as hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig, 1 is a plan view of a device embodying this invention.

I is the base of the device of elongated rectangular shape made of cardboard or other suitable material. The card i is folded backward upon itself at 2 to form an integral flap 3 overlying one of the end portions of the base i. The flap 3 is provided with a recess The edge of the recess l toward the main body of the base i is provided with a plurality of serrations ti each having a side 6 extending substantially parallel with the longitude of the base i and a side i extending diagonally thereto. Short slits 8 extend from the apex of each serration or notch 5.

This structure provides a series of tab portions, one located between each two slits and these tabs are uniformly twisted so that their long straight edges lie outwardly and their short and angular edges lie inwardly relative to each other thus opening the slits to receive fishhooks.

The hooks iii are placed-in the slits 8 by inserting their sharp barbed ends through the recess 4 and placing their curved portions in the notches 5. Then by pulling downward upon the hooks, either by their shanks or by the snells ill attached thereto, the hooks are moved into place in the slits ii and because of the inclined edges of notches 5 and the twisted positions of the tabs all of the hooks will be turned angularly and in uniform positions with their sharp barbed ends between the flap 3 and base I and concealed d protected thereby.

flap 5 is scored at 12 substantially midway of its length so that the portion between the score it and the lower or free end of the flap may lie substantially parallel with the base I and the portion of the flap between the score l2 and the fold 2 will be inclined. By this construction the device will adapt itself to different sized hooks and regardless of the spacing between-the flap 3 and the base i to receive the point portions of the hooks the portion of the flap 3 into which the hooks are received and held will lie substantially parallel with the base I.

Clamps iii are provided near the lower or opposite end of the base I to removably hold the snells it in place. These clamps are preferably made of wire having a body of U-shape lying adjacent the face of the base I and prongs I6 pierce through the base I and are bent against the back thereof opposite the body I 5 to hold the clamps in place. Each leg of the body is curved away from the face of the base i near its middle portion at El to provide a space to receive the shell El and the U-portion of the clamp is curved outwardly away from the face of the base to provide easy insertion of the snell. The clamps are sufficiently flexible to permit the snell to be pulled between them and the base in inserting or removing them.

By use of this device a fishhook holder is provided which the manufacturer can use for packing fishhooks for delivery. The operation of putting the hooks on the holder is simple and rapid since each book automatically adjusts itself to its proper position merely by the act of inserting them into one of the notches 5 and pulling them into place and they are retained in position by placing the smell under a clamp I5.

The dealer may eitectively display the hooks by means of this device and the fisherman may use the holder for carrying and preserving his fishhooks in good condition inasmuch as hooks may be removed and reinserted in the device an indefinite number of times. Because the hooks are turned at an angle to the base and overlap one another the thickness of the holder with the hooks thereon is minimized which is desirable both for shipping and for carrying and the sharp points of the hooks being concealed and protected provide desirable safety features.

The invention is defined in the appended claims and is to be considered comprehensive of all forms of structure coming within their scope.

I claim:

1. A fishhook holder comprising, a card having a recess, notches in one edge of said recess, and slits in said card at the apex of each of said notches, the portions of the card between the slits being turned angularly to the plane of the card.

2. A fishhook holder comprising, a base, and a flap spaced from and connected to said base and having a recess, a plurality of notches at one edge of said recess, each notch having one edge extending substantially parallel with the longitude of said base and another edge extending diagonal to the longitude of the base, a slit extending from the apex of each notch and the portions of the flap between the slits being turned angularly to the plane of the flap.

3. The elements defined in claim 2 in which said flap is scored between its free end and its connection with the base, whereby one portion of the flap is angularly disposed with respect to said base and the remainder of said flap is parallel thereto.

4. A fishhook holder comprising, an elongated card, and a flap adjacent one end of said card and attached thereto, said flap having a recess and said recess having a plurality of notches in its edge extending toward the main body of the card and clamps on said card separated from said flap.

5. The elements in combination defined in claim 4 in which each of said notches has an edge extending substantially parallel with the longitude of said card and an inclined edge.

6. A device of the class described comprising, a card having a recess therein to receive the points of fishhooks and notches in said recess, the edges of which are angularly disposed to the plane of said card, said angularly disposed edges acting to turn each fishhook inserted therein to a plane angular to the plane of the card automatically by pulling movement of the hook longitudinally of its shank.
