This invention relates to improvements in manifold forms, of the type disclosed in my copending application, Serial No. 538,103 filed May 18, 1931.
My co-pending application above referred to discloses manifolding forms consisting of superposed record sheets and intermediate transfer sheets all of which are bound together along one edge and inwhich the carbon sheets terminate short of the opposite edges of the record sheets and the record sheets have lines of partial severance inwardly of and adjacent to their attached edges so that the form may be pulled apart and the transfer sheets separated from the record sheets by grasping the attached edges with one hand and the projecting portions of the .record sheet with the other hand and exerting a pull which causes the record sheets to separate from their stub portions along the line of partial severance, thus providing a form which permits of instant separation of the record and transfer sheets without the necessity of touching any of the carbon transfer sheets with the fingers.
In some instances particularly in the case of the small manifold forms, it is desirable that the carbon paper sheets extend the full width of the record paper sheets so that data written on the top record paper sheet near the margin thereof will be duplicated on the record sheets beneath it.
The present invention has for its object to provide a manifold form or a strip of manifold forms in which the transfer paper sheets extend the full width of the record paper sheets but which can be pulled apart to separate the record paper and transfer paper sheets by grasping the opposite edges of the form and pulling the same apart.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention may be said to comprise the manifold form, as illustrated in the accompanying drawing hereinafter described and particularly set forth and explained, together with such variations and modifications thereof as will be apparent to one skilled in the art to which the invention appertains.

Fig. 1 of the drawing shows a manifold form strip of the type adapted to be fed through a typewriting or other printing machine, for the entry of data in duplicate on the superposed record sheets, the individual forms being adapted to be detached from the strip after the desired data have been applied thereto. The form strip is made up of superposed strips of record paper I and intermediate strips of transfer paper 2 such as carbon paper of substantially the same The record paper strips have printed blanks at regularly spaced intervals along the lengths thereof and the printed blanks of superposed strips are in registry.
The superposed strips are attached together along one longitudinal edge by suitable means such as staples 3, and the individual manifold forms of the strip are separated by transverse lines of perforations 4 extending throughall of the superposed strips between successive printed blanks. Inwardly of the staples 3 and adjacent thereto, the record paper strips are provided with longitudinal lines of partial severance 5, while the intermediate transfer strips are unweakened adjacent the stapled edge. The transfer strips, however, are provided with a longitudinal line of partial severance 6 adjacentthe edge thereof opposite that which is stapled to the record strips.
The longitudinal lines of partial severance 5 in the record paper provide detachable stubs l which are attached by the staples 3 to the transfer paper and the lines of partial severance 6 in the transfer sheets provide detachable stubs 8 at the edge of the form strip opposite that at which the form sheets are stapled together.
After the required data have been applied to the top record sheet of one of the manifold forms and duplicated by the transfer paper on the lower record sheets of the form, the form may be torn from the strip along the transverse line of perforations 4 and may if desired be forwarded in assembled condition from one department to another for the entry of additional data thereon. After all entries have been made upon the form, the record sheets thereof can be instantly detached and separated from the transfer sheets. by grasping the stapled stub portions 1 with one hand and pulling the form apart. The record paper sheets separate along the lines of partial severance 5 and the carbon paper along the lines of partial severance 6, the narrow stub portions 8 of the transfer sheets remaining between the edges of the record paper sheets and the body 8 of the record sheets in handling the forms is of all the transfer sheets remaining attached to the stub portions 1 of the record paper sheets and being withdrawn from between the record paper sheets as the form is pulled apart as shown in F18. 8.
If desired, transverse lines of perforations 9 may be formed in the narrow stub portions 8 of the transfer paper so that only a small block of carbon paper gripped between the edges of the record paper sheets will be detached from the carbon paper sheets when the form is.pulled apart.
The narrow strips or stubs 8 of carbon paper will readily fall out from between the record paper sheets when the edges of the sheets are released and the removal of the carbon paper is effected without touching any portion of the carbon paper with the fingers. By providing carbon paper extending the full width of the form, the data may be entered on the form blank from one edge to the other thereof and the full width carbon paper can be instantly removed from between the record sheets. Also, when the record assembly is used in typewriting and like machines having cylindrical platens, the section of the set or assembly defined by the stub 8 will be gripped by the platen to hold the forms in position.
It will be apparent that the device of the present invention avoids errors on the duplicate record sheets which might occur in forms having transfer sheets narrower than the record sheets when the data entered on the top record sheets are extended beyond the side edge of the transfer paper, and that soiling of the hands and smearing eliminated.
I claim:
1. A composite manifolding assembly including long continuous record and transfer strips in interleaved transfer relation with each other, said record and transfer strips having attachment with each other along one longitudinal marginal portion of the assembly so as to form a longitudinally disposed strip binding, said record and transfer strips having transverse weakened severance lines longitudinally spaced apart along the assembly dividing the latter into successive manifolding sets of record and transfer leaves, said longitudinal strip binding being positioned at each of said manifolding sets, said record strips having longitudinally extending weakened severance lines positioned along the marginal portion thereof at which said longitudinal strip binding is located and inside of said attachment so as to provide for detachment of the record leaves from the assembly, said transfer strip having a longitudinally disposed weakened severance line extending along the assembly at each said manifolding set and at the longitudinal marginal portion of the assembly opposite to said strip binding and being inwardly spaced from the adjacent longitudinal assembly edge and the record strips being correspondingly unweakened and extending outwardly at the longitudinal margins thereof across said longitudinal weakened line of the transfer strip so as to form record strip grip margins outside of the latter weakened line, providing longitudinally disposed between said record strip grip margins to permit both the record and transfer strips to be simultaneously gripped wholly outside of said transfer strip longitudinal severance line, the record and transfer strips having their marginal portions outside of said transfer strip longitudinal severance line in opposing relation with each other along the longitudinal extent of said transfer strip stub portions.
2. A compositemanifolding assembly including long continuous record and transfer strips in interleaved transfer relation with each other, said record and transfer strips having attachment with each other along one longitudinal marginal portion of the assembly so as to form a longitudinally disposed strip binding, said record and transfer strips having transverse weakened severance lines longitudinally spaced apart along the assembly dividing the latter into successive manifolding sets of record and transfer leaves, said longitudinal strip binding being positioned at each of said manifolding sets, said record strips having longitudinally extending weakened severance lines positioned along the marginal portion thereof at which said longitudinal strip binding is located and inside of said attachment so as to provide for detachment of the record leaves from the assembly, said transfer strip having a longitudinally disposed weakened severance line extending along the assembly at each said manifolding set and at the marginal portion of the assembly opposite to said strip binding and being inwardly spaced from the adjacent longitudinal assembly edge and the record strips being correspondingly unweakened and extending outwardly at the longitudinal margins thereof across said longitudinal weakened line of the transfer strip so as to form record strip grip margins outside of the latter weakened line, providing longitudinally disposed transfer strip marginal stub portions extending along the length of the assembly and positioned between said record strip grip margins to permit both the record and transfer strips to be simultaneously gripped wholly outside of said transfer strip longitudinal severance line, the record and transfer strips having their marginal portions outside of said transfer strip longitudinal severance line in opposing relation with each other along the longitudinal extent of said transfer strip stub portions, said detachable transfer strip stub portions having longitudinally spaced transverse separation lines extending substantially thereacross and positioned at each said manifolding set so as to provide independently detachable sections of said stub portions for said sets of record and transfer leaves.
