2 Claims.
This invention relates to an expansible clamp, which is also constructed in a manner whereby the same may be used as a pipe vise, as Well as a` lathe.
One important object of this invention is the production of a clamp, the parts of which are adjustable and removable and may be easily anchored in position.
A further object of this invention is the production of a simple and efficient clamp, wherein the parts are mounted and assembled in a manner to provide a sturdy and durable structure.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will appear throughout the following specification and claims.

By referring to the drawing, it will be seen that Ill designates a hollo-w housing which is preferably rectangular in cross section, and comprises an elongated member, a filler plug II being fitted in one end of the hollow housing I0. A movable or adjustable bar I2 is slidably mounted in the opposite end of the hollow housing ill, one end of this bar having an upstanding arm I3 through which is adjustably threaded an adjusting screw I4 having aslidable operating crank handle I5 at one end. The opposite end of the adjusting screw I4 is provided with a swivel connection I6 which swivel connection I6 is connected to a sliding clamping jaw I1 which extends at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the movable or adjustable bar I2, and this sliding clamping jaw Il is provided with an aperture IS at its lower end through which the movable and adjusting bar I2 extends. A second jaw I9 is also slidably mounted upon the movable bar i2 in a manner similar to the jaw I1. A clamping screw 20 preferably of the wing type is extended through the lower end of the second clamp I9 and is provided with a rounded inner end for fitting in one of the selected notches 2l formed along the under face of the movable or adjusting bar I2. In this manner the second jaw I9 may be firmly locked in a set position and the sliding clamping jaw I1 may be adjusted with respect to the jaw I9 through the medium of the adjusting screw I4.`
A lathe head stock 22 is slidably mounted upon the hollow housing Ill, the hollow housing Ill extending through the rectangular aperture 5 23 formed in the lower end of the head stock 22.
A locking screw 24 extends through the bottom end of the head stock 22 and is preferably of the wing type, this screw extending through the hollow housing Ill and being adapted to fit into one 10 of the selected notches 2| formed in the movable bar I2 for locking the head stock 22 in a set position. The head stock 22 is bifurcated, as at 25, at its upper end and receives a drive pulley 26 which is carried by a shaft 21. A suitable 15 work-engaging head 28 is carried by one end of the shaft 2l in a manner as shown in Figure 1. A vise jaw in the nature of a pipe wrench 29 is tted in the aperture 30 formed upon one side face of the head stock 22 and is held in po- 20 sition by a retaining screw 3|.
A tail stock 32 is slidably mounted upon the hollow housing I0, the tail stock 32 being provided with an aperture 33 through which the housing I6 extends in the manner shown in Fig- 25 ure 4. A suitable clamping screw 34 similar to the screw 24 is used for locking the tail stock in position. The tail stock 32 carries an adjustable screw 35 which is provided at one end with a work-engaging member 36, as is common with 30 such devices. A vise jaw of the pipe Wrench type 3l extends beyond one face of the tail stock 32 and is secured in position by a retaining screw 3B. The vise jaws 29 and 31 face each other in order that a proper clamping action may be ob- 35 tained in a manner such as is Shown in dotted lines in Figure 1 whereby a circular or rod element such as a pipe might be clamped in position.
It should be understood that the present de- 40 vice is susceptible for various uses, either as a clamp, a pipe vise, or as a lathe, but it should be borne in mind that the various elements are adjustable longitudinally of the supporting housing or movable bar in order that the various 45 parts may be properly located to accomplish the desired results. The device may be anchored in any suitable or desired manner, or the clamp embodying the jaws` Il and I9 may be utilized for gripping a support such as shown in dotted lines 50 and indicated by the letter S for anchoring the bar in position, particularly when the device is used as a vise, or as a lathe. The driving pulley 26 may be driven through the medium of a belt through any auxiliary power means. 55

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:-
1. A device of the class described comprising an elongated hollow housing, a movable bar shiftable longitudinally in said housing and held against turning therein, means to releasably secure said bar in an adjusted position, a sliding clamping jaw carried by said bar, anadjusting screw for said jaw carried by said bar and engaging the jaw, a second jaw shiftable along said bar, said bar having notches spaced from each other longitudinally of the bar, and clamping screws carried by the housing and the second jaw for selectively engaging in said notches and holdbar.
2. A device of the character described comprising a plurality of elongated telescoping members, clamping means carried by the outer portion of the inner telescoping member, tool elements having portions fitting about the outer telescoping member, said inner telescoping member having notches spaced from each other longitudinally thereof, and clamping screws threaded through the tool elements and a wall of said outer telescoping member with their inner ends removably engaged in selected notches of said inner telescoping member, said screws serving t0 telescoping member and releasably hold the inner telescoping member in an adjusted position.
