6 Claims.
The present invention relates to improvements in molding machines and. more particularly to valveless jarring, squeezing molding machines.
One object of the present invention is to relieve 5 the mechanism which actuates the jarring table from shock by the jarring table and from the weight carried by the jarring table.
Another object of the invention is to guard against the accidental escape of the squeezing piston from its cylinder.
Another object of the invention is to lighten the construction of the squeezing cylinder.
Another object of the invention is to provide a molding machine of the type mentioned which shall be strong, efiicient and yet comparatively inexpensive.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following description at the end of which the invention will be claimed Generally stated, the invention consists in a fixed base having upstanding ribs at its top, a
jarring table having bottom ribs arranged to cooperate with the upstanding ribs and a pneumatic cylinder structure suspended from the base with clearance between itand the jarring table in all positions thereof and adapted to operate the jarring table. 7
The invention also comprises the improvements to be presently described and finally claimed.
In the following description reference will be made'to the accompanying single figure of the drawing which is a central sectional view of so much of a molding machine as is necessary for an understanding of the invention and which also diagrammatically illustrates a ramming block.
In the drawing, l indicates a hollow base having an inturned annular flange 2 at its top. The base I may be appropriately mounted on wheels, 40 although the latter are not shown because they are too well understood to require illustration or description. 3 is a hollow jarring base having at its bottom an inturned annular flange 4 mounted on and extending inward beyond the flange 2. The jarring base 3 at its top is equipped with upstanding concentric ribs 5 and 6 and with a guide sleeve 1 depending from the inner rib 6. 8 is a squeezing cylinder depending from the flange 4 of the jarring base into the hollow base. Inasmuch as it does not receive the shock or weight of the jarring table it may be made of comparatively thin sheet metal. 9 is a squeezing piston arranged in the squeezing cylinder 8 and it is of greater diameter than the opening in the flange 4. In this way the piston 9 may not accidentally escape from the cylinder 8. i0 is a piston'rod" connected with the piston 9 and it is arranged in the guide sleeve 1 and it provides a plunger barrel H open'at its top. I2 is a jarring table spaced from the plunger barrel as at l3 5 and provided with a plunger, l4 arranged in the plunger barrel. 7 The jarring table is provided with an annular rib l4 and an annular head I5. The rib I4 is aligned with the rib 5 and the head is aligned with the rib 6. I6 is a fluid pressure connection for the cylinder 8 and the piston 9 is shown to normally rest upon its end. It also operates as an exhaust connection. ll is a groove on .the plunger barrel H and I 8 is a groove on the plunger I49. These grooves l1 and I8 intercommunicate when the plunger is retracted as shown in the drawing. I9 is a port from the groove 'on the plunger through the wall of the plunger to the interior of the barrel it below the end of the plunger. is a pressure connection through :the guide sleeve to the groove H on the plunger barrel. 2| is an exhaust port through the barrel and it is arranged to be uncovered by the plunger at the end of its outward stroke. 22 is a guide pin connection between the base and the jarring table. 23 is an inlet for oil. 24 diagrammatically indicates a ramming block or head.
The mode of operation may be described as follows: To jar, fluid under pressure is introduced at 29 into the space in the plunger barrel beneath the plunger HI so that the latter rises carrying with it the jarring table l2, and when it rises far enough to uncover the exhaust port 2i the plunger and table fall and the ribs 5 and I4 and 6 and I5 receive the shock which is transmitted to the base. This operation is repeated until sufficient jarring has been accomplished. To squeeze fluid under pressure is introduced through the connection I6 so that the piston 9, its rod and all the parts carried thereby including the jarring table are raised toward the ramming head and thereafter the parts are lowered by exhausting through the connection [6. The spring ensures the downward movement of the parts. i
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates that modifications may be made in details of procedure without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited to such matters or otherwise than the prior art and the appended claims may require.

A molding machine of the valveless jarring at the bottom of the jarring base, a piston rod-- connected with the squeezing" piston. and, ar ranged in the guide sleeve and providing a" squeezing type comprising in combination a hollow base having an inturned annular flange at its 7 plunger barrel open at its top; a jarring table spaced from the plunger barrel and provided with a plunger arranged in the barrel andwith proiections adapted to cooperate withgsaid ribs cand fluid connections for actuating the piston and plunger. 1 i
