The reversing of the tooth assures a balanced or uniform wear to the upper and lower faces of the point or tip 23 when the tooth B is attached to the bottom A of the shovel or dipper.
Formed on and projecting laterally from one side of the tip or point 23 is a protective nib or guard 33 for the nut 34 of the fastening key 32 when securing the point or tip 28 interfltted with the terminal ii of the tooth B.
The manner of fastening the tooth B to the bottom At of the shovel or dipper avoids the necessity of riveting this tooth thereto and also enables the attachment of the tooth with dispatch or its removal therefrom while the point or tip 23 is readily reversible in the interiitting thereof with the terminal I! of the said tooth.
The bottom A at the forward edge thereof is.
notched at 35 for the interfltting of the jaw l3 and said bottom for eliminating any lateral play of the tooth when fastened to the shovel, dipper or the like.
What is claimed is: v V
1. A tooth for a diggingshovel, dipper or the like having a bottom provided with an opening rearwardly of its lead edge and also having an overhang to said opening, comprising a shank the said bottom.
having a front Jaw formation for accommodating the lead edge' of said bottom. a substantially L-shaped terminal at the rear end of said shank and received in a part of the opening for hooking engagement with the overhang thereto, a plate within said opening and. wedged with the said terminal for holding the latter engaged with the overhang to said opening, and a fastener passed through the plate and the shank for separably securing the same together.
2. A tooth for a digging shovel, dipper or the like having a bottom provided with an opening rearwardly of its lead edge and also having an overhang to said opening, comprising a shank having a front jaw formation for accommodating the lead edge of said bottom, a substantially L- shaped terminal at the rear end of said shank and received in a part of the opening for hooking engagement with the overhang thereto, a plate within said opening and wedged with the said terminal for holding the latter engaged with the overhang to said opening, a fastener passed through the plate and the shank for separably securing the same together, and a reversible tip interfltted with the jaw formation, the jaw formation being interfitted with the lead edge of STANLEY SEAL.
