Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SIIJAS E. BAUDER, OF BIRMINGHAM, OHIO.
\ IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-STICKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 213,377, dated March 13, 1879; application filed November 2, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SILAS E. BAUDER, of Birmingham, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Clothes Sticks; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a perspective of my clothes-stick.
My invention relates to a device for lifting laundry-clothes and the like from a boiler of hot water, and it is adapted to prevent the hot Water from running down the stick when the point is elevated and scalding the hands of the operator.
The invention consists in a handle, to which cross-pieces of different lengths are secured by mortise and tenon or bolts, or equivalent device, such cross-pieces being also secured to a grooved stick, having a projecting vend nearly or quite on a plane with the plane of the handle.
The water runs down the stick and passes off at the heel thereof without approaching the handle.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the handle, and B the stick, having groove b. 0 represents the heel cross-bar, of longer dimensions than the cross bar 0. The handle and stick are properly secured together by these cross-bars, and their unequal length brings the point 11 of the stick B nearly or quite in a plane with the longitudinal plane of the haudle.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The clothes-stick described, consisting of the handle A, stick B, having groove 1) and point 11, and cross-bars G O, of unequal length, constructed, arranged, and operating as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have V hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
SILAS E. BAUDER.
W'itnesses E. N. TAFT, H. J. WARNER.
