In the modification, shown in Figures 6, 7 and 8, the tube seam I8 is enclosed between plates 30 one of which, in this case, is provided with inreaching clips 31 slidable along depressed longitudinal trackways in the seam.
The plates are integrally connected at their lower edges by a tubular sheath 32 in which is a slidable rod 33 provided with a handle 34 by which the mandrel, thus formed acts as a nucleus for the collapsible tube as it is wound thereon.
In this type of clamp coiling mandrel the sheath is reduced at one end to receive the head of the rod 33, turned into the position shown in Figs. '7 and 8, to avoid occupying excess space in the carton in which the tube is packed.
In the modified form seen in Figure 10, the same arrangement of clamp plates is used, but the sheath includes two portions 40 and M, of different cross sectional area, the smaller 40 being receptive of a rod 42 having an enlarged square rear portion 43, fitting the section 4|, thereby limiting the withdrawal of the rod and providing for rotation.
The lever 44, pivoted in the reduced portion of the rod, is provided with an enlarged head 45 as previously described.
It will be understood that the rods and sheaths in any of the views shown may be of any cross section, as round, square or otherwise, and of such dimensions as are suited to their purpose.
While certain preferred embodiments of this device have been shown and described, it will be understood that changes in the form, arrangements, proportions, sizes and details thereof may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent, is:-
1. A collapsible tube compressor comprising rigid plates secured on opposite sides of the closed end of the tube, a sheath integrally connecting the lower edges of said plates, a slotted rod limitedly slidable in said sheath, and a finger grip lever pivoted in the slot of said rod.
2. A collapsible tube compressor comprising clamp plates on the closed end of the tube, a sheath connecting the bottom edges of said plates, a coiling key slidable in said sheath, and means limiting the inward and outward movement of said key, said means also operative to transmit rotary motion.
3. A collapsible tube compressor comprising a metal blank shaped to produce a straight cylindrical sheath having a longitudinal slot in the wall thereof intermediate its ends, said sheath having a lengthwise opening, plates integral with the edges of the sheath opening and extending in parallel to receive the closed end of a collapsible tube therebetween, means for rigidly securing said plates to the tube end, a rod slidable in said sheath, said rod bifurcated at one end, a finger grip pivoted in the bifurcated end, said grip having a circular head at least equal to the outer diameter of the sheath, and a lug on said rod operable in the slot of said sheath.
4. A collapsible tube compressor comprising a clip, a cylindrical sheath combined with said clip, a rod telescopically contained in said sheath, said rod limited in its movement, a lever-like handle pivoted in said rod, and a head on said] handle by which the rod may be drawn outwardly and retracted.
5. A collapsible tube compressor comprising a clip fixed on the sealed end of the tube, a cylindrical sheath combined with said clip, a handle slidable in said sheath and means to limit longitudinal movement of said handle.
