Description
Oct. 18, 1938. 1. H. BAKER STRING RELEAS ING- MEANS FOR BOWS Filed June 4, 1937 Inventor I. HHBaA 'er A iiorneys Patented Oct. 18, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in the general art of archery and more particularly to a device for conveniently releasing bow strings.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a device which can be conveniently used in archery for holding the string of the bow without the fingers of the retaining hand engaging the string.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of the character stated through the use of which more accuracy can be obtained in drawing and releasing the string of a bow.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:-
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of the device looking at one end thereof.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device looking at the opposite end from that shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the releasing device fragmentarily showing a bow string and a hand.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the device includes a substantially rectangular-shaped frame 5 made up of the palm engaging side member 5a, the end members 5b--5c and the front member 5d.
Where the palm engaging member 5a merges with the end member 50, an outwardly extending member 6 is provided, and at the corner portion where the end member 50 merges with the front member 5d, an outstanding web or fin l is provided and on this is located the shoulder 8 which has an arcuate-shaped shallow groove 9 on the back side thereof, that is, on the side opposed to the palm engaging member 5a of the frame 5.
It can now be seen, that the fingers engage through the frame with the palm of the hand substantially bearing against the member 5a with 5 the exception of the forefinger which extends substantially parallel to the fin 'I and on the opposite side from the nearest side in Figure 1.
The thumb rests upon the lug 6 and in using the device, the bow string is engaged in the 10 grooveway 9 of the shoulder 8.
Obviously, by a straight backward pull of the device the string can be drawn with the arrow in position against the same and by simply rocking the device laterally the string will be freed of the groove 9 so that the arrow can be driven thereby.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A bow string drawing device comprising forward, rear, top, and bottom side members forming an elongate rectangular frame, a fin member on said forward side member projecting in a plane including said rear member, a shoulder member associated with said fin and generally normal to said plane forming a groove to accommodate a bow string and a thumb rest member on said top member projecting from said plane on the same side of said frame as said shoulder member.
