This minimizes the weaking effect of the score lines that define the segmental flaps. In the top and bottom collars, the longitudinal creases 9 between panels need not be so deep as in the case of the body, so that there is no serious weakening of the top and bottom collars by reason of the longitudinal score lines;
The end closure sheets Il and 22 may be made of corrugated paperboard instead of the plain multi-ply paper construction of the other parts. In only two of the triangular tabs of the closure sheets II and 22 do the score lines extend along fiber lines 32, all other scores extending across ber lines.
In the modification shown in Fig. 6, the collars 40 are mounted inside the body, the segmental securing aps 4| being provided on the ends oi the body panels 2a. The end closure members 42 are mounted in the ends of the body, with their triangular tabs 43 disposed between the collar panels and the body panels. The segmental flaps 4I are folded over against the end closure members 42 and adhesively secured thereto. The collars 40 may be secured inside the body in any suitable way, as by an adhesive or by staples 44.
The above describedcontainer construction obtains the maximum strength from material of the kind described. The parts of the container are easily assembled and the filled container Will withstand very severe handling, even though filled with heavy shiftable lading.
Obviously the body may have fewer or more sides than the eight shown in the drawing and numerous changes in the details of construction and proportions of parts may be made without departing from the invention so that I do not wish to be limited to the precise constructio shown.
What I claim is:
1. A multi-sided container comprising a body member having a multiplicity of longitudinal creases dividing said body into panels, a collar mounted on the end of said body, said collar having panels corresponding to said body panels, and a polygonal closure sheet having tabs projecting from the sides thereof andinserted between panels of said body memberand said collar, said collar having flaps folded over against said closure sheet and substantially covering it.
2. A multi-sided container comprising a body member having a multiplicity of longitudinal creases dividing said body into panels, a collar mounted on the end of said body, said collar having panels corresponding to said body panels, and a polygonal closure sheet having tabs projecting from the si es thereof and inserted between panels of said body member and said collar, said collar having flaps folded over against said closure sheet and adhesively secured thereto said flaps covering substantially all of said closure sheet.
