It is furthermore by no means necessary to give to the wall 30 adjacent the gear-casing I a proper conformation for enclosing the intermediary chambers I6 and II, as said wall 30 may .also be constructed in the manner shown in Fig. 3. In this case an interstice 23 is provided between said wall 30 and the adjacent wall I of the gearcasing I, with the intermediary chambers 3I and 32 are fastened to said wall 30.
With machines operating at small speed in which a spraying-about of the drawing liquid is not to be feared,- there is no necessity of providing a special chamber for each drawing shaft I; in this case it is possible to use a single intermediary chamber common to all drawing shafts by omitting the intermediary chambers 3| and 32 shown in Fig. 3 and substituting therefor the supporting walls 4I by means of which the intermediary container is fastened to the gear-casing, said walls serving as lateral walls of the common intermediary chamber. In this case it will be necessary to shield the two bearings 3 and III shown in Fig. 1 by protective covers 22 against the sprayed-oil particles of the drawing liquid.
Although it may be of advantage to arrange the supply-container for the drawing liquid immediately underneath the drawing container, it will be possible to arrange the supply-container separate from the drawing container. In such case a common supply-container or collecting container 53 (Fig. 5) may be provided for a plurality of wire drawing machines and installed at a proper place ofthe plant. The supply container 50 for each machine will thus solely serve as a collecting container from which the drawing liquid is conveyed to the main container. Each container 50 has an outlet 5I and a main conduit 52 to the container 53. A pump 54 forces the liquid back to the'drawing containers 3.
In the examples of construction described hereinabove it is furthermore not necessary to mount the drawing shafts in exactly horizontal position, it being also possible to have these shafts positioned in more or less inclined direction with respect to the horizontal plane.- In order to have the front bearing for the drawing shaft positioned in close proximity to the drawing rollers 6 and 1 I propose to make use of the construction shown in Fig. 4. In this construction the walls of the intermediary chambers are made in the shape of a bell and fastened to the wall 30 of the drawing container 3 by means of a flange as shown in Fig. 4. Within the bellshaped wall 33 and 34 of the intermediary chamber there are provided baille-plates 35 of likewise bell-shaped onformation, said plates surrounding the drawing shafts by means of an oblong hub, the baille- plates 35 and 36, however, being also equipped with a front ball-bearing 28 and 29. The outer ring of these'ball-bearings is supported by means of a sleeve or bushing 31 and 38 fast on the gear-casing; grooves 39 and 4U are provided at the outerside of said sleeves 31 and 38 to prevent access of drawing liquid from the intermediary chamber `to the ball- bearings 23 and 29.
Above the drawing disks there may be provided protective plates 43, swingable in upward direction, in order to prevent. a spraying-about of the drawing liquid at higher speeds. Since the drawing rollers as a rule are used in pairs and the drawing container is divided into several compartments in case of larger machines, while each of said compartments contains a pair of drawing rollers, it is advisable to construct said protective plates 43 in the manner shown in Fig. 2 to always cover one pair of drawing rollers'. Each protective plate 43 is journalled by means of several hinges 44 to the rear wall of the container 3 or to some auxiliary member 45 permitting upward swinging motion of said plates in order to permit the wire to be drawn into the machine.
The lateral rims 46 of the protective plate are bent downward as shown in the drawing in order to prevent motion of the liquid due to rotation of the vdrawing rollers against coming into action at the surface of the liquid. In other respects the protective plates, as to form and arrangement, should be constructed to meet special conditions.
I claim:
1. A wire drawing machine comprising horizontal drawing shafts, a container for a drawing liquid, a gear casing, a gear mechanism for said drawing-shafts mounted in said casing, said casing and said container having an interstice between them and separated from them by walls, bearings for said drawing-shafts traversing a lateral wall of said container beneath the plane of the surface of the drawing liquid, and a supply container to receive any drawing liquid which may leak through the bearings of the drawing shafts, the traversing place of each drawingshaft through said wall being separated from said casing by said interstice connected with the supply container arranged lower than said. firstmentioned container.
2. A wire drawing machine, as specified by claim 1, in which the container forthe drawing liquid is supported separate from the gear-casing, said machine including intermediary chambers provided in the interstice'within the range of the places of passage of said drawing-shafts through said container for drawing liquid, said intermediary chambers being positioned at the rear of said latter container, the rear-wall of said chambers adapted to prevent access of drawing liquid to said bearings.
3. A wire drawing machine according to claim 1, in which the container for the drawing liquid and the gear casing are mounted above the supply container, and in which chambers are provided intermediate said container for the drawing liquid and the casing and opening toward said casing.
4. A wire drawing machine according to claim 1, in which a baille disk is mounted on each shaft within the interstice and in which a special protective cover is provided for each shaft within range of each bearing to prevent the liquid thrown off of the baille disk from reaching the bearing.
5. A wire drawing machine according to claim 1, in which an intermediary chamber is provided positioned between the container for the drawing liquidand the casing and is common to all of the drawing shafts.
6. A wire drawing machine according to' claim l, in which a collecting-container is provided for said liquid when discharged from said machine, said collecting-container being positioned underneath said container for the drawing liquid and said gear-casing, and in which a connecting conduit is provided between said collecting-container and said supply-container.
