UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE REFRIGERATING APrAnA'rus Nicholas J. Bohn, Detroit, Mich., assignor, by
mesne assignments, to Nash-Kelvinator Corporation, Detroit, Mich, a corporation of Maryland Application April 18, 1936, Serial No. 75,165 I Claim. (Cl. 62-89) This invention relates to refrigerating apparaage compartment I have made provision for suptus, and more particularly to refrigerating apporting these small food articles. Preferably,
- paratus of the household type. the shallow food storage compartment is located One of the objects of my invention is to provide in the upper forward part of the cabinet so that an improved refrigerating apparatus of the the small articles are readily accessible upon 5 household type wherein provisions are made for opening the refrigerator door. storing large and small food articles to be re- Referring to the drawing, the numeral 20 frigerated, with the small articles being disposed designates, in general, a refrigerator cabinet on shelves fixed to stationary wall members near embodying features of my invention. These vertical wall member which cooperates with other walls cooperate to provide a main food storage 15 walls to provide the space for the refrigerant c'oncompartment 30 and a relatively shallow depth densing element in the upper rear part of the auxiliary food compartment 32. The front part cabinet and at the same time the vertical wall of the cabinet is provided with an opening 34 is spaced a short distance from the front part closed by door 35. Shelves 38, of the well known of the cabinet so as to provide an auxiliary food open work type, are provided in the main food 20 storage compartment for small articles immedicompartment for supporting relatively large foo'd ately adjacent the door opening. articles. The 25 invention is clearly shown. l shelves 40 may be attached to wall 28 by any In the drawing: suitable means. Fig. 1 is a view in elevation, partly broken away, The air in compartments 30 and 32 is cooled by showing refrigerating apparatus embodying my a refrigerant evaporating element 45 which "is 30 invention; supported by wall 26. A refrigerant condensing 30 Fig. 2 is a view taken along the line 2--2 of element 41 is operatively connected with the Fig. 1; evaporating element 45 and is supported on the Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in elevation of a opposite side of wall 26. By my invention I overcome these From the foregoing, it will readily be apparent difliculties, by providing a relatively small food that I have made provisions for the storage of storage compartment as an auxiliary compart small articles in a space readily accessible upon ment amociated with the main food storage comopening of the refrigerator door and at a very 55 partment, and in the relatively small food store convenient location in the refrigeratcr, and the 55 supporting shelves are rigidly secured to a fixed part of the cabinet.
Although only a preferred form of the invention has been illustrated, and that form described in detail, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention or from the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
Refrigerating apparatus comprising a cabinet having a vertical wall and a horizontal wall arranged to cooperate with other walls to provide a main food storage compartment and a relatively small food storage compartment above the main food storage compartment, a refrigerant condensing element carried on one side of said horizontal wall, a refrigerant evaporating element carried below said horizontal wall so as to cool said main food compartment to a considerably lower temperature than said relatively small food compartment and being operatively connected with said condensing element, open-work shelves carried by said vertical wall and extending substantially from one side of the cabinet to the other for receiving small food articles, said cabinet being provided with an opening for gaining access to said compartments, and closure means for said opening.
