The transmission mechanism connecting the two feed gears may be constructed as an oscillating lever mechanism or, in a more simple manner, as a thrust rod which engages the gears by teeth. Advantageously the transmission memaltwin rack member, the units of which are transf versely displacedas regards their plane of operation. These rackmembers engage with-toothed wheels which. are .linkedby pawls and transmit their movementtosthe ratchet wheels connected to-the feed rollers for the lightesensitive bands, paper webs or thelike. The reciprocating transmission member of the, two feed gearsis-adjustablyconnected with its driving lever or vcrank as regards its throwor stroke. v

The roller 3 effecting the stepwise feed through the exposure device 2 is fixed on the shaft 5 and co-operateswith the pivoted counter roller 4 which is pressed. thereagainst by means of a weighted lever 32 or by a spring in lieu thereof. 0n the projecting end of the shaft 5 is loosely mounted the toothed wheel 6 at the side of which is secured a spring-pressed pawl l which engages with the ratchet wheel 8 provided with fine teeth and securedto the shaft 5.
The gear wheel 6 engages the rack 9 of the connecting rod Ill. The rack 9 is secured in position by means of the guide roller II.
l The rod I0 is connected at its other end to a twin rack member, the two units l2, I3 of which engage the gear wheels l5, l6 mounted for free rotation on the shaft l4. To each of the rement the pawl 'l returns idly over the ratchetspective gears l5 and I6 is secured a springpressed pawl, indicated at I! for the gear [5 and at l8 for the gear [6. These pawls are arranged to cooperate with a ratchet wheel l9 fixed to the shaft I4. The pawls I1, l8 are located in relatively displaced parallel planes so that they do not interfere with one another during a rocking movement. To the shaft I4 is connected the withdrawal roller 20 against which the film bands are pressed by the pivotally mounted counterroller 30. A weighted lever 33, or a spring, is provided for the purpose of applying pressure to the roller 30.
The racks l2, I3 are held in their position by guide rollers 2|, 22. To one end of the connecting rod I0 between the two feed gears there is hingedly connected the rod 23; the other end of which is adjustably mounted on the lever 24, fixed to the shaft 21. The adjustable mounting" may be constituted by a sliding member 25 guided in the lever 24 and movable over a scale by means of a screw 26. The lever 24 is mounted for rotation with the shaft 21' which is connected to the drive by means of a pulley 34. The lever 24 controls simultaneously by a cam disc 28 and lever 35 the exposure apparatus 2. v
A handle 36 is provided on the shaft M for working the apparatus by hand.
The bands leaving the device may, if they are not to be advanced for further treatment, be wound on the spool 29, indicated in chain dotted lines, which is driven in a suitable manner by a friction, gear.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows: j
The rod I0 is reciprocated by the lever 24 through the connecting rod 23, the stroke of which is determined by the screw 26 and, during this reciprocating movement, actuates, through the rack member 9, the toothed wheel 6. This wheel, when moving in a clockwise direction, rotates, by means of the pawl l, the ratchet wheel 8 and thus the feed roller 3 for the light-sensitive paper or the like, through a corresponding distance, whereas in the other direction of movewheel 8. During this movement, however, the rod ID, by means of its racks l2, l3, rotates simultaneously but in opposite directions the toothed wheels I5, [6 and the ratchet pawls l1, I8 connected thereto.
As the pawls l1, l8 act on the common ratchet wheel I9 this is rotated in a clockwise direction both during the forward and the backward movement of the rod by reason of the oppositely moving ratchet pawls l1, l8 locking in one direction of movement and running freely in the other. The intermittent feed movement produced by the rack 9 is thus duplicated when the toothed wheels 6, l5, l5 are of the same size and is converted into a corresponding continuous, or practically continuous motion.
By suitably relating the diameters of the feed roller 3 and the withdrawal roller 20, or the transmission ratios between the engaging rack members, the lengths of unrolling or feed are so proportioned that during a complete feed move- 'ment the light-sensitive paper bands are moved I by both gears through the same distance corresponding to the predetermined adjustment. WhatI claim'is:
1. A'feeding mechanism for use in connection with photographic apparatus of the type wherein'a sensitized strip is first exposed and then fed through a tank for subsequent treatment, said feeding mechanism including an intermittent feeding means arranged immediately beyond the place of exposure and a continuous feeding means arranged for the delivery of the strip from and beyond the treating tank, the intermittent feeding means feeding the strip from a point beyond the exposure area in the direction of strip movement into the tank and the continuous feeding means delivering the strip after treatment in the tank and in the direction of strip movementg'whereby the intermittent feeding means constitutes the initial strip feeding and the continuous feeding means constitutes the final strip feeding, a'rod'connecting and synchronizing the intermittent and continuous feeds, and a power driven drive bar reciprocating the rod to compel coordinated operations of the respective feeds on the strip. 4
2. A construction as defined in claim 1, wherein the respective feeding mechanisms include pressure controlled rollers between which the strip is moved, a ratchet for operatively actuating the rollers of'each feed, means at one end of the rod for operating the ratchet of the'intermittent feed in movement of the rod in one direction only,'and means at the opposite end of the rod for actuating the ratchet of the continuous feed in both reciprocating movements of the rod.
3. A construction as defined in claim 1, wherein the drive bar is connected for adjustment relative to its power connection to thereby vary the throw of the rod and correspondingly vary the linear degree of strip feed of the intermittent feeding means and the continuous feeding means.
4. A construction as defined in claim 1, Wherein the respective intermittent feeding means and continuous feeding means are arranged to compel the same linear travel of the strip in any one complete operation of the respective feeding means under a complete reciprocating movementv of the rod.
