Thegcabinet I is providedwith ends l5 in one 35 of which a vsocket I6 is provided to receive a jack I1 having power, aerial and ground connections. ,Ventilatingfapertures I8 are formed in the ends I 5v and in the bottom I9 (Fig. 11) of the cabinet. Suitable feet2 may be provided on the 40 bottom I9 to support the cabinet when set up for use.

The top.22of the cabinet carries a pickup arm 23 of standard construction having means to receive'a standard-pickup needle .24. The pickup 45 arm- 23 may be channel-shaped in cross section as vindicated-in Figs. 6 and? and may be held against movement when not in use bymeans of a spring clip 25 which is pivoted to the top22 by means of pins 26 and vis adapted to engage Within the 50 channel section of the arm23 when brought into elevated positionas shown inFigs. 6 and 7.

A turntable -post 28 extends through the top 22 ofthe cabinet vand is driven by any suitable .standard ldriving mechanism. The post V28 is 55 adapted to receive the hub 30 of turntable 3| which is adapted to receive a record to be played, the record being inserted over said post in the usual manner. The top 22 may also be provided with a needle pocket 29, an A. C.-D. C. motor control switch 33 for controlling the actuation of the post 28, and a microphone connection 34.

For closing the radio control panel 2 there is provided a Combination front cover and turntable holder 35 shown in detail in Fig. 4 as comprising a front wall having side members 36 and a bottom member 31 provided with flanges 38 and 39, respectively, which are adapted to seat over the ends I and bottom I9 of the cabinet as shown in Figs. 1 and 8. The front cover 35 is provided with an internal partition 40 which is separated from the front wall to provide a space 4| in which the turntable 3| and a plurality of records 42 may be inserted as shown in Figs. 8 and 9. The partition 40 is provided with a, slot 43 adapted to receive the hub 39 of turntable 3| and is spaced from the ilanges 38 and 39 so as to provide clearance for the various control members on the front panel 2 of the cabinet.

The cover 35 is removably attached to the cabinet I by means of hinge pintles 45 which are attached to the bottom edge 31 of the cover and are adapted to engage hinge knuckles 46 (Fig. ll) attached to the bottom I9 of the cabinet. The hinge pintles 45 are adapted to be inserted in or removed from the hinge knuckles 46 by axial movement, thereby providing separable hinge means. When the cover is in position it is held against such axial movement by the flanges 38 engaging the ends l5 of the cabinet. Additional hinge knuckles 41 are provided on the bottom I9 adjacent the back of the cabinet to receive and mount the cover at the back as indicated in Figs. 2 and 9 when the radio control panel 2 is to be exposed.

A top cover 50 is provided having depending sides 5| and ends 52 which terminate in flanges 53 and 54, respectively, adapted to engage and secure the top cover to the top 22 of the cabinet and to the iront cover 35. The top cover 50 is provided with a hinged handle 55 by which the assembled cabinet may be transported, and it is also provided with ears 56 adapted to be engaged by catches 51 mounted on the ends I5 of the cabinet for holding the parts in assembled position. The catches 51 are centrally mounted with respect to the ends I5 of the cabinet. Ears 55, however, are oiset with respect to the center of the top cover 5|] to permit the top cover to extend over the front cover 35 when the same is positioned at either the frontor the back of the cabinet I. When the front cover 35 is positioned at the back of the cabinet as shown in Figs. 2 and 9, the top cover is reversed in position so as to extend over the same. The ears 56, however, are so arranged that they are brought into alignment with the catches 51 in either position.

When the top cover 50 is in place it is latched by the ears 56 and catches 51. The front cover 35 is held in position by the hinge pintles 45 Yand by the ange 53 of the top cover 50. In order to remove the front cover 35 so as to expose the radio control panel 2, the top cover 50 is iirst removed, thereby releasing the front cover 35 for pivotal movement about the hinge knuckles 46. When the cover 35 has been opened suiiiciently to disengage the flanges 38 from the ends I5 of the cabinet, the hinge pintles 45 'may be removed from the hinge knuckles 46 by shifting the cover axially thereof. The cover may then be attached to the hinge knuckles 41 at the back of the cabinet and the top cover 5|] may be reversed and replaced as shown in Figs. 2 and 9 to close the device and hold the same in assembled position. In this form the radio control panel 2 is exposed for use. It will be noted that the front cover 35 is then mounted on the back of the cabinet I so that the entire cabinet can be transported as a unit and it will beseen that this is accomplished without increasing the thickness of the assembled cabinet.

When the phonograph turntable 3| is to be used the top cover 50 is removed, thereby eX- posing the turntable which is ordinarily stored in the front cover 35 shown at the back of the cabinet in Figs. 2 and 9. The turntable 3| is then removed from the pocket of covers 35 and placed upon the turntable post 28 as shown in Figs. 5 and 10. The pickup arm 23 may be released by depressing the clip 25 whereupon a record may be placed on the turntable 3| and played in the usual manner.

In order to `hold the cover 35 in position against the back of the cabinet when the top cover 56 is thus removed, a foot 69 may be provided on the bottom ilange 31 of the cover 35 in a central position so as to engage the supporting surface. Inasmuch as the records and turntable have been removed for use there is but little Weight to be supported thereby and the cover 35 is readily held in closed position by the foot 6D as indicated in Fig. 9. If desired, however, a separate catch may be provided for securely holding the cover 35 in position when the top cover 50 is removed.

When it is again desired to use the device as a radio, the turntable 3| may be removed from the post 28 and replaced in the carrier. The pickup arm 23 may be locked by the clip 25 and the top cover 50 may be replaced and secured by ears 56 and latches 51. When the cabinet is to be closed for transportation it is only necessary to reverse the position of the front cover 35 and the top cover 56 as shown in Figs. l and 8.

It will be noted that in the above-described device the cover 35 is held in position at either the front or back of the cabinet by the top cover 59, the position of which may be reversed so as to cooperate with the front cover in either position. The total thickness of the cabinet accordingly remains unchanged regardless of the position of the front cover, and is substantially less than would be required to permanently house the turntable 3| on the top of the cabinet. The device may be covered with leather or other suitable material to give the appearance of a, carrying case. It is to be understood that any standard type of radio equipment may be mounted within the cabinet and that a particular form of radio control panel and a particular arrangement of controls has been shown merely for purposes of illustration.

Although a particular embodiment of the invention has been shown, it is to be understood that the invention is capable of various uses and that various changes and modifications may be made therein as will appear to a person skilled in the art. The invention is therefore to be limited only in accordance with the following claims when interpreted in view of the prior art.

The invention claimed is:

1. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a cover for said radio control panel, means for attaching said cover at either the front or back of said cabinet, and a top cover for said cabinet having means to engage and secure said first cover in place.

2. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a radio apparatus, sai-d cabinet having a radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a cover for said radio control panel, means for securing saidy cover to said panel in spaced relationship thereto to provide a pocket adapted to receive and hold the turntable when not in use, a top cover extending over the top of said cabinet to enclose the turntable post and pickup arm and projecting over said pocket, and means associated with said top cover to secure said first cover in position.

3. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a, cover for said panel, means for securing said cover to said cabinet in spaced relationship with said panel to provide a pocket` adapted to receive and hold the turntable when not in use, a top cover extending over the top of said cabinet to enclose the turntable post and pickup arm and adapted to project over said pocket, means for reversing the position of said top cover to cause the same to extend over said pocket WhenA said iirst cover is attached at either the front or back of said cabinet, and means associated with said top cover to secure said first cover in position.

4. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a cover for said panel having a spaced member forming a. pocket to receive and hold the turntable when not in use, means for attaching said cover to either the front or back of said cabinet, and a top cover for said cabinet extending overl and forming a, closure for said pocket.

5. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a cover for said panel having means to receive and hold the turntable when notin use, `separable hinge means for attaching said cover at either the front or back of said cabinet, and a top cover for said cabinet having means acting in conjunction with said .hinge means to hold said first cover in either of said positions.

a radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a cover for said panel having means to receive and hold the turntable when not in use, separable hinge means located at the bottom of said cabinet for attaching said cover at either the front or back thereof, said cover having anges engaging the bottom and side edges of the cabinet to form a closure, and a top cover having a depending flange engaging around the top of said cabinet andaround said first cover to secure the latter in position.

7. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a cover for said panel having a pocket to receive and hold the turntable when not in use, means attaching said cov-er at either the front or back of said cabinet, a top cover for said cabinet projecting beyond said top to form a closure for said pocket, said top cover being reversible so as to extend over said pocket when said rst cover is attached at either the front or back of said cabinet, and means for securing said top cover in either of said positions.

8. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a cover for said panel having a pocket to receive and hold the turntable when not in use, means attaching said cover at either the front or back of said cabinet,

a top cover for said cabinet projecting beyond said top to form a closure for said pocket, saidtop cover being reversible so as to extend over said pocket when said first cover is attached at either the front or back of said cabinet, and latch means securing said top cover in either of said positions, said latch means comprising separable parts attached respectively to the central parts of the ends of said cabinet and to the part of said top cover which registers therewith in either of said positions.

9. In combination, a cabinet adapted to house a, radio apparatus, said cabinet having a front radio control panel and having a top carrying a turntable post and pickup arm, a turntable holder adapted to be attached at the front of said cabinet to form a closure for said panel and to be attached at the back of said cabinet to expose said panel for use, and a top cover attached tothe top of said cabinet and forming a cover for said turntable holder, said top cover having a handle for use in transporting said cabinet.
