This invention relates to games.
An object of the invention is to provide a set or pack of cards to be distributed individually to a large number of persons and including a 5 limited number of winning cards and a large number of non-Winning cards, all of the cards having on one side five vertical and ve hori- Zontal rows of numerals forming a table, and also having on that side a large eld of numbers, the winning cards having thereon in the large iield of numbers all of the numbers that are contained in the table, and the non-winning cards including in the table one or more numbers that are not included in the field of numbers, with means separating the table from said field of numbers, the table of numbers on the winning cards being arranged so that one vertical or one horizontal or one diagonal row of numbers corresponds to numbers in the field.
Other objects will appear from the following description, reference being made to the annexed drawing, in which- Figs. l, 2 and 3 are views of different nonwinning cards in a set or pack of cards.
Fig. 4 is a View showing one of the winning cards included in a set or pack of cards that also includes the non-winning cards shown in Figs. l, 2 and 3 as illustrative of non-winning cards.
Each of the non-winning cards, of which a large number are included in each set or pack, has on one side a clearly dened frame A located centrally, and which may be embossed or indented or otherwise noticeably formed. Within this frame A, five vertical and five horizontal rows of numbers are printed, thereby forming two diagonal rows of numbers with five numbers inA each of said diagonal rows.
A frame B is also formed on the same side of each non-winning card upon which the frame A is formed. Preferably, the two frames are concentrically and symmetrically arranged. The frame B may be embossed or indented or otherwise appropriately made.
The numbers within the frame A are designated the table numbers, and a large selection of numbers are printed within the frame B outside of the frame A and constitute the field.
By comparing the numbers within the table frame A with the numbers within the eld enclosed by the frame B, on each of the non-winning cards it will be found that at least one number in each vertical row and in each horizontal row and in each diagonal row of nurnbers in the table is lacking and is not printed in the field located between the frames A and B.
Each set or pack of cards includes at least one winning card, and as many more as may be desired. A typical winning card is shown in Fig. 4, in which it will be seen that each of the numbers in the middle vertical row C is also contained in the field of numbers between the frames A and B. The person receiving this winning card crosses out the numbers in the table that appear in the eld and thereby makes a Vertical row of crosses along the vertical row of numbers C.
Each. card includes at one margin a space D upon which instructions are printed directing the players to cross out the numbers in the table that appear in the eld; and, if it be found that ve numbers are crossed out in a vertical or a horizontal or a diagonal row, to return the card to the distributor.
The possible variations in the arrangement of the numbers are so many that at least several hundred cards with the same fields, but with different tables, may be made up within a single set or pack without repetition, even when the numbers are within the range from 0 to 99.
This game stimulates interest and keenness of observation by making the comparisons of the table numbers with the eld numbers.
The specimen cards illustrated are suflicient to enable manufacturers and distributors to produce and distribute many variations without specic illustration and description of such variations.
I claim:-
l. A set of playing cards comprising a number of cards each having on one side a frame enclosing series of horizontal and vertical and diagonal rows of numerals, and also having on said side a eld with numerals therein including only a part of the numerals in said frame.
2. A set of playing cards comprising a number of cards each having on one side a frame enclosing series of horizontal and vertical and diagonal rows of numerals, and also having on said side a field with numerals therein including all of the numerals in at least one of said rows.
3. A set of playing cards comprising a number of cards each having on one side a frame enclosing series of horizontal and Vertical and diagonal rows of numerals, and also having on said side a eld with numerals therein including only a part of the numerals in said frame and omitting at least one numeral in each of said rows, and also comprising a number of cards having on one side a frame enclosing series of horiting at least one numeral in each of said rows, and also comprising a number of cards having on one side a frame enclosing series of horizontal `and vertical and diagonal rows of numerals, and
also having on said side a eld with numerals therein including all of the numerals in at least one of said rows, each of said cards having printed on said side bearing said numerals directions to play the game.
