This construction provides a seat or thelike 60, upon the tread .end of theheel, which seat lies in a plane beyond the outer face of the member A of the fastening means, as illustrated by the space 62, in Figure 5.
The member B, of the fastening means is carried by the lift member I6, and to secure the same tothe lift member, I provide on the outer f edge of the plate-like member 52, a plurality of very closely adjacent prongs 64. Each of these prongs is provided on its outer end with a piercing point 66, and where the prongs join ,the
main body portion of the plate, each is provided with oppositely curved portions which provide oppositely disposed locking shoulders 68, upon the side edges of each prong. In attaching the illustratedl in Figure 3.

When it is desired to remove the lift from the heel, it is only necessary to insert a tool or similar article behind the member 34, of the latch plate 30, and exert a slight outward pressure thereon. This Will move thek latch plate to its extended position, whereupon the notches 50, will coincide with the notches 48, and the posts will be free to pass from they openings C.
The plate 52, is of a greater transverse dimension than is the recess in the heel in which the member A, is positioned, and thus when the lift is in position upon the heel, the plate 52, engages and bears upon the seat 60, which defines said recess, and since, as before stated, this plate is of sti or rigidvmaterial, the pressure occasioned by the weight of the` person wearingv the shoe, `is transmitted directly to the heel by the plate 52,
and the fastening means is relieved of all strain incidental to the wearing of the device.
From the foregoing, it will begapparent thaty preferred embodiment, in which it has been applied to the lift ofthe heel of a ladys'shoe. It is to be understood, however, that it may also be incorporated in lifts of larger sizes, such as are employed in connection with mens shoes or it may also be employed asa means for attaching a heel to a shoe instead of attaching a lift to a heel.
Having thus described the invention, what is` claimed, is: k
A detachable lift for shoe heels comprising in combination, a shoe heel, a lift therefor, and a two-part fastening means for said lift, one part of said fastening means being carried by the shoe heel and including a housing, a tongue projecting from said housing, the` other part of said two-part fastening Vmeans being carried by the lift and including a rigidplate having a portion thereof removed to permit of the afore-mentioned projecting tongue of the housing of the other part of the fastening means to engage the lift to prevent turning or sliding movement thereof relative to the shoe heel, studs on the plate penetrating the housing, a locking plate slidably mounted in the housing and having edgewise locking engageek ment with the studs and cooperating means carried by the plate and an element within the housing for securing the plate against accidental sliding movement.
