v Claims. (Cl. 10U- 48) This invention relates to improvements in juice sages 25 and 29, respectively, through the juice extractors. collecting chamber 8.
The objects of the invention relate rather spe- Beyond the integral collar 29, the shaft yI1 carcifically to the improvement o f the mechanical ries unitarily a key 3D, which has radially pro- 5 construction of juice extractors employing a jecting lugs at 3| releasably engageable behind 5 screw for advancing the pulp, means for afrordthe flanges 32, which are formed `integrally with ing variable resistance to the escape of the pulp, casting 5, as best shown in Figures 3 and 4. The strainer comprises a reduce the capacity of the compression chamber foraminous plate bent to an arcuate form in cross 45 1. The shaft is provided integrally with collars section, as best appears in Figure 2, to conform 45 I8 at its rear end and I9 at its forward end, which to the path of travel Yof the peripheral portion of are fitted closely into complementary bearings thread I6. The marginal portions of thel screen 20 and 2|, respectively, which are formed in the rest in shallow recesses formed at 43 in the incasting 5. terior wall of the chamber 1.
The collars are peripherally grooved at 22 In order to maintain the screen properly cen- 50 and the bearing surface 2| has a complementary tered in its recesses, While at the same time reundercut groove at 24, the grooves being adapted inforcing the central portions of the screen, a to collect any juice tending to lowpast the bearrib is made by folding the intermediate portion ings, and thereby to escape from the juice extracof the screen at 45. This rib is received into the tion chamber. The grooves are drained by pasnotches 46 and 41 formed between the endmost 55 Y lugl'sl and 49 of afseries of lugs 50 disposed at from said pulp discharge port to receive material intervals along the sides of casting 5 to provide ,additional support for the screen.
.The bottom of the juicefcollecting chamber 8 below the screen is closed, except at the .forward Vend of such chamber, where it drains intoa spout 52, whichis opposite a pulp discharge spout 4l.
To prevent the pulp from rotating with the screwin chamber 1, the said chamber is preferably longitudinally grooved at 53,:as best' shown in Figure 2. 1 v
The device is usable to extract the juice from practically any fruit or vegetable fed to it in pieces of such size as will be receivable into the hopper 6. The resistance offered to the escape of `the pulp by means of the adjustable screw 39'will determine the extent to which the juice will be extracted therefrom. Y 1,
The fact that the key is unitarily assembled with the handle and screw I5 is a factor'contributing to= vthe facility with which the device may be cleaned. It will be noted that the key constitutes an instantly detachable means for positively anchoring thescrew, and when this key is turned to its figure 4 position, there are very few parts` of the apparatus requiring separate handling in the removal of the screw for the cleansing of the screw and the rest of the apparatus.
