This invention relates to a metal edging machine and is designed primarily for applying an edging strip to a sheet of flexible material, such as a calendar. A metal edging of this kind usually consists of a strip of thin sheet metal and it is applied to the sheet by folding one edge portion of the strip about the edge of the sheet and then again bending the strip to fold the other edge portion thereof, and the sheet, against the initially folded portion, thereby providing an edging comprising three thicknesses of metal, the sheet being folded about the intermediate portion of the strip and firmly clamped between that intermediate portion and the two outer portions of the strip. It is customary to supply the edging strips, which are commonly called slides, to the machine with one edge portion thereof partially folded to provide a substantially V-shaped groove to receive the edge of the sheet. Such a partially folded strip is placed in the machine, the edge of the sheet inserted in the groove and the machine then operated to complete the initial fold and thereby crimp the edge portion of the strip against the sheet and to then form and complete a second fold, as above described.
One object of the invention is to provide an improved edging machine which will operate quickly and positively to effect the crimping and folding operations.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a machine in which the several operations will be performed in proper sequence by a short continuous movement of an operating device.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a machine in which the crimping and folding operations will be completed without moving any part of the operating mechanism above the sheet supporting member, thereby leaving that member free to receive and support supplemental devices, such as a gage or an eyelet attaching device.
A further object of the invention is to provide such a machine in which the operating parts may be adjusted to enable the edging strip to be applied either to a single sheet or to a plurality of sheets.
Other objects oi the invention may appear as the apparatus is described in detail.

The mechanism may, of course, take various forms and for the purpose of illustration I have shown the same as comprising a main frame having upright end members I0 connected one to the other by a longitudinal member, such as a fiat bar II, the upper surface of which constitutes a support for the edging strip and the adjacent portion of the sheet to which the strip is to be applied. If desired, an inclined feeding table may be arranged at the forward edge of the bar I l, to provide a support for the full length of the long sheets, but such a table is not necessary and is not here shown.
Mounted on the frame to the rear of the strip supporting bar II is a movable structure I2 on which is mounted a crimping member I3 and a folding member I4, these members being movable with the supporting structure I2 and being movable with relation thereto in intersecting planes. In the particular construction illustrated the movable structure is in the form of an angle bar having a front vertical flange I5 and an upper horizontal flange It. This structure is mounted for rotation about a longitudinal axis which is preferably spaced forwardly and upwardly with relation to the structure itself. For this purpose there are secured to the respective ends of the structure l2 bearing lugs I! having bearing apertures to receive pivot studs I8 carried by suitable supporting members I9. Preferably the structure I2 is mounted not only for rotary movement but also for bodily movement transverse to its axis of rotation and, as here shown, the supporting members I9 are capable of vertical movement. In the preferred construction each supporting member is in the form of a lever pivotally mounted between its ends on a fixed part of the machine near the front thereof, such as the bar II, and having the bearing studs I8 near the rear end thereof. These levers may be moved about their axes in any suitable manner to impart vertical movement to the axis about which the structure I2 rotates. In the construction illustrated a cam 20 is rigidly secured to each of the bearing lugs I1, by pins 2 I, so that it rotates with the structure I2 about the axis of the latter. Cooperating With each cam 20 is a roller 22 mounted on the adjacent end member it of the frame and arranged above the cam 20. The cam is provided with a depressed portion 23 in which the roller 22 rests when the cam and structure l2 are in their normal or idle positions. The initial movement of the cam in a counterclockwise direction, as shown in Fig. 2, will cause the cam to rotate with relation to the roller 22 so that the latter will ride out of the recess 23 and force the cam downwardly, thereby moving the structure I2 transversely to its axis while it rotates about that axis.
Rotary movement may be imparted to the structure I2 in any suitable manner but preferably an operating device is provided for controlling the several movements of the operative parts of the apparatus, and, as here shown, this operating device comprises a shaft 24 rotatably mounted on the forward portion of the frame below the level of the strip supporting bar I I. The shaft may be rotated in any suitable manner and for the purpose of illustration I have here shown the same as provided with a manually operated handle 25 but in practice the shaft will usually be operated from a suitable source of power, such as an electric motor. Rigidly secured to the shaft 24 is a crank arm 26 and a link 2'! is pivotally connected at its forward end with the crank arm and is pivotally connected at its rear end with the movable structure I2 near the lower edge of the vertical flange I5, as shown at 28. Thus the movement of the operating shaft in a clockwise direction, Fig. 2, will rotate the supporting member I2 in a counterclockwise direction and through the action of the cam 20 will cause the same to be moved downwardly. The reverse movement of the operating shaft will rotate the structure I2 to its initial position and upward movement may be positively imparted thereto in any suitable manner. In the present instance the two supporting levers I9 have their lower portions turned rearwardly, as shown at 29, and provided with rollers 39 which are acted upon by cams 3| carried by the operating shaft 24 to positively actuate the supporting levers I9 and thus restore the movable structure I2 to its initial position.
The crimping member I3 is here shown as a flat bar slidably mounted on the vertical flange I5 of the movable structure I2 and arranged between that flange and the rear edge of the strip supporting bar I I. It is connected with a vertical flange I5 by headed screws: 32 which extend through slots 33 in the vertical flange I5. The crimping member is so mounted that when in its normal or idle position the upper edge thereof will lie adjacent to the strip supporting surface of the bar I I and will cooperate with that bar to support the partially folded edging strip 34. The crimping member is yieldably mounted on the structure I2 and means are provided for positively controlling its movements with relation to that structure. In the present construction rods 35 are rigidly secured to the lower edge of the crimping member and extend downwardly through apertured lugs 30 carried by the flange I5 of the movable structure. Springs 31 confined between the lugs 36 and thumb nuts 38 on the lower ends of the rods tend constantly to move the crimping member downwardly with relation to the flange I5. The crimping member is supported normally against movement by the springs by arms 39 which are pivotally mounted at their rear ends on the movable structure I2, as shown at 4|), extend forwardly beneath the crimping member and are provided at their forward ends with rollers 4| adapted to travel over a stationary cam track 42. Preferably the arms 39 are provided with set screws 43 on which the crimping member rests and which serve to adjust the same with relation to the movable structure. The cam tracks have substantially horizontal forward portions 44 on which the rollers. 4| rest when the parts are in their normal or idle positions. During the initial operative movement of the structure I2, in a counterclockwise direction, the rollers 4| will move over the horizontal surfaces of the cam tracks and the forward ends of the arms 39 will be held against downward movement while the rear ends of those arms move through an upward arc and thus act on the crimping member to impart a slight upward movement thereto with relation to the structure I2 while the latter is rotating. The continued movement of the structure I2 carries the rollers 4| off of the horizontal portions of the tracks onto the curved portions thereof which serve to retain the crimping members in the positions to which they have been moved until the movable structure nears the end of its rotation when additional movement will be imparted to the crimping member, as will be hereinafter explained.
The folding member I4 is also shown in the form of a bar extending lengthwise of the movable member I2 and has its end portions slidably mounted in guides 45 carried by that structure. The forward portion of the folding member is beveled, as shown at 46, to provide the same with a thin folding edge which normally extends across and is spaced a short distance from the upper edge of the crimping member I3, which spacing is sufficient to permit the partially folded edge portion of the edging strip 34 to be inserted between the crimping member and the folding member. The folding member is held against movement with relation to the structure I2 during the first portion of the movement of that structure but means are provided for moving the folding member rearwardly and thus retracting the same after its folding operation has been completed. In the present arrangement screws 41 are mounted in the rear edge of the folding member and extend rearwardly through apertured lugs 48 carried by the movable structure I2, and springs 49 confined between the lugs 48 and the heads of the screws tend tomove the folding member rearwardly. The folding member is held normally against movement by the springs 49 by means of latches 59 which are pivotally mounted on lugs 5| carried by the folding member and are provided with shoulders 52 to engage stationary parts of the structure I2, as shown at 53, when the folding member is in its normal position. Each latch has a forwardly extending part 54 forming a trip arm and adapted to engage the strip supporting bar II and move the latch out of engagement with the parts 53 of the movable structure I2 when that structure and the folding member have completed a predetermined movement and thus permit the folding member to be retracted by the springs 49. When the structure I2 is rotated in a reverse direction to its initial position the folding member is automatically restored to its initial position and the springs 49 again placed under tension. As here shown, this is accomplished by means of links I50 pivotally mounted at their forward ends on fixed parts of the machine, as shown at I5I, and having their rear ends provided with elongate slots I52 into which extend studs I53 carried by the brackets 5|, these studs being in the present instance the same studs on which the latches are mounted. The slots I52 are of such length that as the structure rotates in a clockwise direction, Fig. 2, the ends of the slots will engage the studs I53 and interrupt the movement of the folding member with the structure l2 so that the continued movement of the structure will place the springs 49 under tension and when the structure has reached its normal positions the latches will again engage the parts 53.
With the several parts of the mechanism in their normal positions, as shown in Fig. 2, the partially folded edging strip 34 is placed in position on the strip supporting bar H with its folded portion between the crimping member and the folding member, and the edge of the sheet is inserted in the groove formed by the partial fold. Preferably a gage 555 is adjustably mounted on the supporting bar I l, as shown in Fig. l, to properly aline the lateral edge of the sheet with the end of the strip. The operating shaft is then rotated in a clockwise direction with a continuous movement, preferably through an arc of approximately ninety degrees, and thus continuously rotates the structure l2 in a counterclockwise direction. This rotation of the structure l2 causes that part of the folding member which lies above the crimping member to move downwardly and at the same time the action of the arms 3Q imparts a slight movement to the crimping member, thus causing the partial fold in the strip 34 to be completed, and the edge of the sheet firmly gripped by the strip, during the initial portion of the movement of the operating device, as shown in Fig. 4. The continued rotation of the structure l2 moves the folding member l ltoward an upright position and this rotatable movement, together with the downward movement of the structure l2, causes the edge of the folding member to engage the edging strip 35 along an intermediate line in front of the initially folded portion thereof, thereby bending the strip downwardly between the strip supporting bar and the crimping member, as shown in Fig. 5, to form a second partial fold in the strip. When this partial fold has been formed the latches 53 will be tripped by contact with the strip supporting bar and the folding member will be retracted by the springs 49, thus moving the edge portion thereof out of the partial fold in the strip. The continued movement of the structure l2 moves the crimping member into a position substantially in line with the strip supporting bar H, with the strip having the second partial fold therein arranged between the bar and the crimping member. A further operative movement is then imparted to the crimping memher to complete the second fold, as shown in Fig. 6. To impart this further operative movement to the crimping member the supporting arms 33 therefore are moved forwardly, those arms being then in substantially vertical positions. To impart this movement to the arms the cam tracks 42 have at their rear ends substantially vertical members which engage the rollers M on the arms 39 and are moved forwardly by the action of the operating shaft to impart the final crimping movement to the crimping members. These vertical members are here shown in the form of arms 55 pivotally mounted at their lower ends adjacent to the rear ends of the curved portions of the cam tracks. Preferably the amount of movement imparted to the crimping member is variable to accommodate the apparatus to sheets of different thickness or to a plurality of sheets. In the present construction this variation is secured by means of an adjustable connection between the arms 55 and the link 56. As here shown, each link is provided at its rear end with a pivot lug 60 which is slidably mounted on a screw 6| extending rearwardly from the end of the link and provided with a nut $32 to limit the rearward movement of the lug 65. The forward end of the lug is seated in a curved recess (53 in the rear edge of the arm 55 and the latter is moved rearwardly against the pivot lug by a spring 64. It will be apparent that the adjustment of the pivot lugs 60 varies the effective length of the links 56 and thereby correspondingly varies the amount of movement imparted to the arms 55.
It will be noted by reference to Fig. 6 that at the time the final crimping operation is completed the upper flange E6 of the movable structure 52 has been moved from a substantially horizontal position to a substantially vertical position and that this member and the folding member are supported in vertical planes adjacent the rear edge of the strip supporting bar H so that they do not overhang that bar or the body of the sheet, which is arranged above the supporting bar. The reverse movement of the operating shaft 24 serves to restore the several parts to their normal positions, as shown in Fig. 2. Preferably means are provided for ejecting the completely folded edging strip from between the strip supporting bar Hand the crimping member l3 during the return of the parts to their normal positions. For this purpose I have mounted beneath the strip supporting bar H ejector arms which are pivotally mounted at their forward ends and are acted upon by springs 66 which tend to move the same upwardly; At their rear ends the ejector arms are provided with upwardly extending fingers El which move in slots 68 in the bar H and have their rear edges projecting beyond that bar and into recesses 69 formed in the adjacent surface of the crimping member 53. It will be noted that the upper wall of each recess 69 overhangs the ejector finger 61 and as the crimping member moves from a vertical to a horizontal position the ejector is moved downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 6, in which position it bears against the completed edging strip and as soon as the return movement of the structure l2 has moved the crimping member far enough to release the edging strip the ejectors will move the same upwardly and discharge the same from between the bar and the crimping member.
In the drawings I have shown the two folds in the edging strip of substantially equal width but it is sometimes desired to have these folds of different widths so that the outer edge of the strip, which is arranged on the back of the sheet, will be of a different width than the initially folded portion of the strip which overlaps the front of the sheet. The widths of the two portions of the completely folded strip may be controlled by locating the strip initially in different positions with relation to the folding member and for this purpose I have provided an adjustable gage to determine the position to which the folded portion of the strip is moved between the crimping member and the folding member. As here shown, this gage comprises a bar "NJ slidably mounted between the folding member l4 and horizontal flange it of the movable structure, the flange being provided with a recess to receive the bar. The gaging fingers II project forwardly from the bar between the crimping member and the forward portion of the folding member and serve to limit the rearward movement of the edging strip. The upper portion of the crimping member is provided with slots 12 to receive the gage fingers II when the crimping member and the folding member move one toward the other, as best shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Screw rods 13 connected with the gage bar 10 extend rearwardly through knurled nuts 14 rotatably mounted in the lugs 48 on the structure l2 and held against axial movement with relation thereto so that the rotation of these nuts will move the gaging fingers toward or from the forward edge of the folding member.
While I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention I wish it to be understood that I do not desire to be limited to the details thereof as various modifications may occur to a person skilled in the art.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, means for supporting an edging strip having a partially folded portion, a rotatable structure, folding and crimping means carried by said structure, and means for rotating said structure to bring said folding and crimping means successively into operative relation with said strip and to cause the same to first complete said fold in said strip and then form and complete a second fold in said strip.
2. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, means for supporting an edging strip having a partially folded portion, a rotatable structure, means for rotating said structure through approximately a quarter rotation only, relatively movable members carried by said structure and means for causing said members to act on said strip during said quarter rotation to complete said partial fold, to partially form a second fold and to complete said second fold,
3. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure, a crimping member and a folding member carried by said structure, means for supporting an edging strip with a partially folded portion thereof in a position to be acted upon by said crimping member, means for rotating said structure, and means actuated by said rotating means to cause said crimping member to complete the fold in said strip, to cause said folding member to form a second partial fold in said strip and to then cause said crimping member to complete said second fold.
4. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure, means for rotating said structure, folding and crimping members connected with said structure for rotation therewith and having cooperating parts spaced one from the other, means for supporting a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said parts of said members, and means controlled by said rotating means to move one of said members toward the other to complete the fold in said strip and to cause said members to act on said strip to form and complete a second fold therein.
5. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure,
means for rotating said structure, a crimping member rotatable with and movable transversely to said structure, a folding member rotatable with said structure and having a part arranged normally in alinement with and spaced from said crimping member, means for supporting a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said members, means controlled by said rotating means to move said crimping member toward said folding member to complete the fold in said strip, to then cause said folding member to form a second partial fold in said strip and to then cause said crimping member to complete said second fold.
6,. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure, means for rotating said structure, a crimping member rotatable with and movable transversely to said structure, a folding member rotatable with said structure and having a part arranged normally in alinement with and spaced from said crimping member, a bar cooperating with said crimping member to support a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said members, means controlled by said rotating means to cause said crimping member to complete the fold in said strip, to cause said folding member to bend said strip between said bar and said crimping member to form a second partial fold therein and to then move said crimping member toward said bar to complete said second fold.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure, means for rotating said structure, a crimping member rotatable with and movable transversely to said structure, a folding member rotatable with said structure and having a part arranged normally in alinement with and spaced from said crimping member, a bar cooperating with said crimping member to support a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said members, means controlled by said rotating means to cause said crimping member to complete the fold in said strip, to cause said folding member to bend said strip between said bar and said crimping member to form a second partial fold therein, to retract said folding member and to then move said crimping member toward said bar to complete said second fold.
8. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a stationary bar, a rotatable structure, a crimping member carried by said structure, movable transversely thereto and supported normally in a plane transverse to the plane of said bar, a folding member carried by said structure, movable transversely thereto and having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, said bar and said crimping member cooperating to support a partially folded strip with the folded portion thereof between said folding and crimping members, means for moving one of said members toward the other member to complete the fold in said strip, means for rotating said structure to cause said folding member to form a second partial fold in said strip and to move said crimping member into a plane substantially parallel with the plane of said bar, and means for moving said crimping member toward said bar to complete said second fold.
9. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a stationary bar, a rotatable structure, a crimping member carried by said structure, movable transversely thereto and supported normally in a plane transverse to the plane of said bar, a folding member carried by said structure, movable transversely thereto and having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, said bar and said crimping member cooperating to support a partially folded strip with the folded portion thereof between said folding and crimping members, an operating device, and means actuated by the continued movement of said operating device in one direction to cause said crimping member to complete the fold in said strip, to rotate said structure to cause saidfolding member to form a second partial fold in said strip and to move said crimping member into a plane substantially parallel with the plane of said bar, to retract said folding member and to move said crimping member toward said bar to complete said second fold.
10. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure mounted for bodily movement transverse to its axis of rotation, a crimping member and a folding member rotatable with said structure and movable in intersecting planes transverse to said axis, means for supporting a partially folded strip with its folded portion in operative relation to said crimping member, means for actuating said crimping member to complete the fold in said strip, means for simultaneously imparting rotary movement and transverse movement to said structure to cause said folding member to form a second partial fold in said strip and to move said crimping member to an operative position with relation to said second fold, and means for actuating said crimping member to complete said second fold.
11. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure mounted for bodily movement transverse to its ax s of rotation, a crimping member and a folding member rotatable with said structure and movable with relation thereto transversely to the axis thereof, means for supporting a partially folded strip with its foldedrportion betweenv said members, means for moving one of said members toward the other member to complete the fold in said strip, means for rotating said structure and moving the same transversely to its axis to cause said folding member to form a second partial fold in said strip and to move said crimping member into an operative position with relation to said second fold, and means operating during the rotation of said structure to retract said folding member and to actuate said crimping member to complete said second fold,
12. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure mounted for bodily movement transverse to its axis and having a normally vertical surface and a normally horizontal surface, a crimping member mounted on said vertical surface for transverse movement with relation thereto, a folding member mounted on said horizontal surface for transverse movement with relation thereto and having a part extending across the upper edge of said crimping member, a stationary bar having an upper surface arranged to support a partially folded edging strip with its folded portion between said members, means for moving one of said members one toward the other to complete the fold in said strip, means for imparting rotary movement and transverse movement to said structure to cause said folding member to form a second partial fold in said strip and to move said vertical surface thereof to a position substantially parallel with the plane of said upper surface of said bar, means for retracting said folding member, and meansformoving saidcrimping member toward said bar to complete said second fold.
13. In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure, a crimping member mounted on said structure for rotation therewith and for movement transverse to the axis thereof, a folding member mounted on said structure for rotation therewith and for movement transverse to the plane of movement of said crimping member and having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, a stationary bar mounted adjacent to said crimping member, an operating device, and means actuated by said operating device to rotate said structure and said members, to move one of said members toward the other, to retract said folding member and to move said crimping member toward said bar.

In amachine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a rotatable structure mounted for bodily movement transverse to its axis, a crimping member mounted on said structure for movement therewith and for transverse movement with relation thereto, a folding member mounted on said structure for movement therewith and for movement with relation thereto in a direction transverse to the plane of movementof said crimping member, said folding member. having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, a stationary bar mounted adjacent to said crimping member, an operating. device, and means actuated by said operating device to impart both rotary movement and transverse bodily movement to said structure to cause said crimping device to move said crimping member toward said folding member during the initial movement of said operating device, to retract said folding member after it has completed a predetermined movement and to then move said crimping member toward said bar.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a movable structure, a crimping member and a folding member mounted on said structure for movement in intersecting planes, said folding member having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, vertically movable supporting members, means for mounting said structure on said supporting members for movement therewith and for rotation about an axis adjacent the intersection of the planes of said movement of said crimping and folding members, means for supporting a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said crimping and folding members, means for moving one of said members toward the other member, means for moving said supporting members downwardly and for rotating said structure to move said crimping and folding members to positions at substantially right angles to their initial positions, and means for moving said crimping member toward said strip supporting means.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a movable structure, a crimping member and a folding member mounted on said structure for movement in intersecting planes, said folding member having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, vertically movable supporting members, means for mounting said structure on said supporting members for movement therewith and for rotation with relation thereto, means for supporting a partially folded edging strip with t e folded portion thereof between said crimping and folding members, means for causing said crimping member to engage said strip and complete the fold therein, means for moving said supporting memebrs downwardly and for rotating said structure to move said crimping and folding members to positions at substantially right angles to their initial positions, spring means for retracting said folding member, a latch to hold said folding member normally against movement by said spring means and arranged to be tripped by the rotation of said structure to the last mentioned position, and means for moving said crimping member toward said strip supporting means after said folding member has been retracted.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a movable structure, a crimping member and a folding member mounted on said structure for movement in intersecting planes, said folding member having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, vertically movable supporting members, means for mounting said structure on said supporting members for movement therewith and for rotation with relation thereto, means for supporting a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said crimping and folding members, an operating device, means actuated by said operating device to rotate said structure through a partial rotation, and means operating during the rotation of said structure to cause said crimping member to act on said strip to complete the fold therein, to move said supporting members downwardly and to move said crimping member toward said strip supporting member as said structure nears the end of its rotation.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a movable structure, a crimping member and a folding member mounted on said structure for movement in intersecting planes, said folding member having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, vertically movable supporting members, means for mounting said structure on said supporting members for movement therewith and for rotation with relation thereto, means for supporting a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said crimping and folding members, an operating device comprising a shaft, means actuated by said shaft to impart a partial rotation to said structure, cam means actuated by said shaft to impart operative movement to said crimping member, other cam means controlled by said shaft to move said supporting members downwardly, means controlled by the rotation of said structure for retracting said folding member, and means actuated by said shaft for imparting a second operative movement to said crimping member after said folding member has been retracted.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a movable structure, a crimping member and a folding member mounted on said structure for movement in intersecting planes, said folding member having a part extending across and spaced from said crimping member, vertically movable supporting members, means for mounting said structure on said supporting members for movement therewith and for rotation with relation thereto, means for supporting a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said crimping and folding members, an operating device comprising a shaft, means actuated by said shaft to impart a partial rotation to said structure and to move said supporting members downwardly, a cam track, a part connected with said structure and movable thereby over said cam track to impart operative movement to said crimping member during the initial movement of said shaft, means to impart a second operative movement to said crimping member during the final movement of said shaft, and adjustable means to regulate the last mentioned operative movement of said crimping member.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, means for rotating said structure, a crimping member rotatable with and movable transversely by said structure, a folding member rotatable with said structure and having a part arranged normally in alinement with and spaced from said crimping member, a bar cooperating with said crimping member to support a partially folded edging strip with the folded portion thereof between said members, means controlled by said rotating means to cause said crimping member to complete the fold in said strip, to cause said folding member to bend said strip between said bar and said crimping member to form a second partial fold therein and to then move said crimping member toward said bar to complete said second fold, and adjustable means to control the last mentioned movement of said crimping member.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a crimping member and a folding member, means for supporting an edging strip having a partially folded portion with said portion between said members, and operating mechanism having means for moving one of said members toward the other member to complete said partial fold in said strip, for actuating said folding member to partially form a second fold in said strip, for withdrawing said folding member and for actuating said crimping member to complete said second fold.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a crimping member and a folding member, means for supporting an edging strip having a partially folded portion with said portion between said members, and operating mechanism having means for moving one of said members toward the other member to complete said partial fold in said strip, for causing said folding member to bend said strip between said crimping member and said supporting means and partially form a second fold therein, for withdrawing said folding member and for moving said crimping member toward said supporting means to complete said second fold.

In a machine for attaching an edging strip to a sheet of material, a crimping member and a folding member, means for supporting an edging strip having a partially folded portion with said portion between said members, and operating mechanism having means for moving one of said'members toward the other member to complete said partial fold in said strip, to bend said strip between said crimping member and said supporting means to partially form a second fold therein and to then withdraw said folding member, and for moving said crimping member into operative relation to said supporting means and then moving the same toward said supporting means to complete said second fold.
