The upper roller I4 is so proportioned that one half of its circumference is substantially equal to the spacing between the secured edges of adjacent panels. Thus a panel at the top on each side of the device can be exposed to view. The consecutive panels are so marked that both exposed panels 26 at the top indicate the same score.
The panels are so marked that the superimposed faces of the adjacent panels bear the same indicia, in other words consecutive markings appear in pairs on adjacent faces of consecutive panels so that when these adjacent faces are separated and exposed to view on the opposite sides at the top of the conveyor the indication is identical to spectators on opposite sides of the device. Such consecutive panels are shown in Figures 2 and 3. On the panel 26a one face bears the numeral 11 but the other face bears the preceding number 10. On the panel 26b one face bears the numeral 11, and the other face bears the following consecutive numeral 12 The panels 26a and 261) are so placed on the conveyor 24 that the panel 26a precedes the panel 25b for instance in contraclockwise direction viewing Fig. 1 and so that the faces of the panels 25a and 261) which bear the same indicia namely the numeral 11 are superimposed facing each other in all positions except when separated by the top roller l4. Hence each pair of adjacent panels on its combined four faces bears three consecutive numerals, one numeral, for instance 10, on the leading face of the first panel 26a, the next consecutive numeral, in this illustration 11", on both the trailing face of the first panel 26a and also on the adjacent leading face of the next panel 26b, and the next consecutive numeral, namely 12 in this illustration, on the trailing face of the second panel 26b.
In operation each set of panels is used for one of the teams. The scoreboard is so set up near an official that its opposite sides face toward the opposite stands or benches of the spectators. The ofiicial turns the device by means of the knob 23 as the respective teams score so as to bring into view the suitable numerals at the top of the conveyor.
In the modified embodiment of my device each panel 3| bears the same numeral or indicia on both sides. The panels 3| do not hang flat with their face toward the conveyor as in the first described embodiment but extend substantially at right angles away from the conveyor chains 32. Each panel 3! is connected to the conveyor chain 32 by means of a yoke 33 fixed to spaced links of the conveyor 32. Each panel 3! is placed into a yoke 33 and is held therein by a pin 34:. The yoke 33 is comparatively small and is located near a leading corner of each panel 3! so that the inner or bottom edge of each panel 3| rests against the bottom of a yoke 33 as it is carried around with the conveyor 32.
Two or more such indicator units may be combined, and in this modified embodiment they are inclosed in a casing 36 which has windows 31 near the top aligned with the upright position of the panels 3! on the top of the conveyor turn. There are corresponding windows also on the other side of the casing 36 aligned with the windows 31. The conveyor 32 may be manipulated by means of cranks 38 or the like indicated in broken lines in Fig. 5, or by a transmission 39 from a motor M or the like, which may drive one of said units, and, for instance in clock mechanisms the units may be connected to each other for intermittent driving movement by means described in detail in 'my said copending application.
Having thus described my invention, what I now claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
1. In a display board of the character described a series of indicator panels, means to carry said panels in overlapping relation to each other so as to separate and turn each panel over at a point of its travel so as to successively expose to view the opposite faces of the panel in opposite directions, the overlying faces of adjacent panels of said series bearing the same score indicia so that the exposed face of an overturned panel indicates the same score indicia as the uncovered face of the next panel from which the first panel was overturned, and means for intermittently operating said carryin means at will.
2. A score board comprising a conveyor, a plurality of overlapping panels suspended on the conveyor so as to be turned over one by one at a turn of the conveyor from one side to the other side of said conveyor as the conveyor is moved, thereby to expose to view a face of a panel on each side of the conveyor in opposite directions, each panel bearing consecutive score markings on its opposite faces, and the score markings of the overlying adjacent faces of adjacent panels of said series being the same so that when a panel is overturned it bears on its exposed face the same score marking as that on the uncovered face of the next succeeding panel, and means for movi an we y r a will- 3.
