(c1. 10s-as) This invention relates to anchor locks forV mecuring of metallic sheeting in overlapped relation to form a leakproof seam and has for the primary object the provision of a 4device of this character claimed.
Fora complete understanding ofmy invention, reference is to be-had to thefollowing description and accompanying drawing, in which r Figure l is a fragmentary sectional view showing metallic sheeting arranged in overlapped relation to form a seam between the sheeting and secured together by my invention.
Figure 2` is a fragmentary sectional view showing the fastening means prior to the connection of the metallic sheeting thereby..y
' the fastening Figure 3 is aview similar to Figure 2, showing of the metallic sheeting by my invention.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary plan view showing the formation of tongues and openings in the metallic sheeting.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating a, modified form of my invention, prior tothe joining of the metallic sheeting.
Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 5 showing the sheeting joined together by my modified form of invention.A l
Figure 7 is a fragmentary plan view showing the form of opening 4to receive the form of anchor disclosed in Figures 5' and 6.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral I indicates roof sheathing on which is mounted metallic roof sheeting 2 of corrugated formation and arranged to overlap one another and thereby effect a seam between the sheeting. The sheeting which is arranged innermost at the seam is designated by the character A, and is provided with an attaching flange 4 having elongated openings 5 to receive nails or like fasteners 6 vwhich are driven into vthe sheathing I. The sheeting which is disposed outermost at the seam is designated by the character B and yhas suitably secured to its inner face lugs 1, each formed with a head 8 provided with oppositely extending beveled faces 9 and I0. The. sheeting Alhas formed therein openings' Il and the sheeting A adjacent said openings is slotted to denne tongues I2 with the openings II located therein. When ,the sheetings A and B are brought together in 5 overlapped relation the lugs I passthrough the sheeting Ak by upsetting the tongues so `that said tongues frictionally engage the beveled faces 9 of the lugs and thereby effectively secure the sheety ings A and B together capable cfa limited move- 10 ment to compensate for expansion and contrae-l tion due to varying temperatures.
When desiring tov secure together metallic sheeting ofthe non-corrugated type, lugs I3 are employed each including a tapered head I4. It 15` Y is preferable that the head I4 be bifurcated so that it may contract when passed through an opening I5I of a keyhole Vslot formation. After the' passing. of the head I4 through the'opening l5 the -shank of the 1ug is then moved into the 20 restricted portion of the opening, thereby eiectively locking'the sheeting together. /Th'us it will be seen that when sheeting is assembled` and secured together by my invention, the outer sheeting of the seam is non-punctured by fasteners or 25 like devices and thereby will materially eliminate the possibility of leaks.
Having described the invention, I claim:
In combination with oof sheetings adapted to' be arranged lin overlapped relation to form a 3o seam, tongues struck out. from one ofthe sheet- 1 ings and arranged in cooperating pairs, the tongues of each pair having substantially semicircular cut away portions at their free edges. whereby a circular opening'is defined by each 35 y pair of tongues, and anchoringt lugs secured'to i the other sheeting, each lug having a head larger than said circular opening and comprising a pair of truncated superimposed cones Idisposed with their 4bases in opposed abutting relation, said 40 abutting bases providing a relatively small .intermediate band of uniform diameter, said cones gradually tapering in directions oppositet one another', the lower of said cones adapted to act as a wedge to spread the tongues of a pair when 45 the head is being threaded through the -opening and the upper of said cones adapted to be engaged throughout itsentire periphery by the free semi-circular edges of a pair of tongues when the 'head has been threaded through the opening, said 50 tongues in their operative position being disposed at a substantially 45 angle to the line of movement of the lug when being inserted and removed 'from said opening.
