2 Claims.
'I'his invention relates particularly to faucets forming a part of a bar-counter equipment, and among the objects of the present invention is the provision of means for equipping said faucets with an indicator which would be constantly in view from the front of the bar so that the customer may clearly observe what is being withdrawn for his consumption.
At the present time it is practically a uniform requirement that dispensers of alcoholic beverages give some positive indication to the customer of the fact that there is being drawn for consumption the requested brand of beverage.
At the present time this is being accomplished by providing the present type of beer faucet with a knob or handle piece having printed or otherwise formed thereon the name and character of the beverage. The objection to this, however, is the fact that the stem portion of the plug of the faucet varies in the diameter thereof and these knobs are generally provided to accommodate one size of stem with the result that a change of knobs cannot be accomplished Without expense.
The present invention proposes to overcome this difficulty by providing an assembly consisting primarily of a knob, a series of bushings of varying sizes and diameters and an interchange able stem so that by a judicious selection of the necessary parts of the assembly, one size knob can be applied to any one of several faucets having various size stems.
The invention, together with its objects and advantages, will be best understood from. the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure l is an exploded view of a knob assembly embodying the features of the present invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view with the parts assembled, and
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 but illustrating an alternate application of the invention.
Referring to the drawing, by reference numerals, and more particularly to Figure 1, it will be seen that the assembly consists of a knob proper, 5, formed of any suitable material and having cast therewith a fixed bushing t, the bore of which is of two diameters including a large threaded diameter l and a smaller threaded diameter 8. Further the assembly includes a smaller internally and externally threaded bushing 9; a pin H3 provided with a group of threads I i and also provided at one end with an enlarged diameter that is also threaded and indicated by the reference numeral 82. Completing the assembly is a washer l3 of any suitable material.
In Figure 2 is illustrated an application of all the elements of the assembly. In this figure the shank of the faucet fork it has a stem removably associated therewith and in using my assembly this stem is removed and in. its stead is substituted the stem ill, the threaded section II of the stem it! being threaded into the recess I! provided in the fork It for the reception of the conventional threaded and removable stem of the fork. In this application of the assembly, it will be noticed that the bushing 9 has one end partially threaded into the. bore 8 of the bushing 6 and the bushing 9 is threaded home on the threaded section ll of the stem Ill.
In Figure 3 is illustrated the application of the entire assembly where the bore I1 is of a larger diameter than that shown in Figure 2. Where such is the case the stem ill is inverted so that its larger diameter i2 is threaded into the recess ll. In this use of the assembly the bushing 9 is of course threaded into the bore 8 of the bushing 6 and the threaded section III of the stem it! is threaded into the bore of the bushing 9 as clearly shown.
By using the washer 53 in each application of the assembly, the knob may be given the re quired turn for properly positioning such indicia as may be provided on, the knob to the View of the customer as well as to the View of the salesman.
It will thus be seen that my knob assembly will meet all of the requirements of an indicator of this character and can be readily adapted to a faucet regardless of the diameter of the stem of r the fork of the faucet and whether or not the stem be integral or separable with respect to the fork of the faucet.
The material advantage of my indicator-knob assembly, therefore, is the fact that the salesman may equip himself with any number of the knob assemblies regardless of any variation as to diameter or construction of the stem portion of the faucets forming part of his bar-counter equipment.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A knob assembly for faucets comprising a valve stem having threaded end portions and a smooth intermediate portion, one threaded end of said stem being of one diameter and the other threaded end of said stem being of a relatively larger diameter, a. knob for said stem, a cylindrical bushing axially imbedded in said knob and having a two diameter threaded bore, and an internally and externally threaded adapter bushing threadedly engageable with the first mentioned threaded end of said stem and one diameter of the first named bushing for securing the knob to the valve stem.
2. In a knob assembly for faucets, and in combination with a faucet-plug operating fork of the type having a threaded stem receiving recess in the shank thereof; a valve stem having a smooth intermediate portion, and also having a threaded end of one diameter and a second threaded end of a larger diameter than the first mentioned threaded end, either threaded end of said stem being usable for threaded engagement in the recess of said fork shank, as may be required by the diameter of said recess, for connecting said stem With said plug operating fork, a knob for said stem, a cylindrical bushing axial- 1y imbedded in said knob and having a two diameter threaded bore, and an internally and externally threaded adapter bushing threadedly engageable with the first named threaded end of said stem and with one diameter of the first 10 named bushing for securing the knob to the valve stem.
