The range of adjustment of standard 55 may be increased or diminished by adjustment of the screw I9 in the lower end of the standard. The ends of the plug 2% may be beveled as shown in Figure 4 to insure proper cooperation between the plug and the locking screw 23 and also to insure proper locle'ng engagement between the plug and the screw H.
From the foregoing, it is apparent that adjustment of the shaft 5, either axially or radially may be quickly and easily made. Rotation of bolt I2 in the proper direction will cause the plug and its shaft supporting yoke to move in such direction as will secure axial adjustment of the roller, while operations of the screw or pin l'l secures the proper vertical adjustment of the shaft. By arranging the adjusting screw and the lock therefor in the manner shown and described, ready access for these adjustments may be had from the side of the machine and without necessitating stopping or slowing down of the machine during such operations.
What I claim is:
1. In a bearing adjuster, a block, a bearing standard slidable in said block, a screw in said block, the inner end of said screw tapered and engageable with a surface of saidstandard, whereby movement of the screw will be transmitted to said standard, a locking plug in said block adapted to engage a side of said screw, and a locking screw in said block parallel with said first mentioned screw, said locking screw having an inclined inner end to engage and move said plug.
2. In a bearing adjuster, a frame, a block, a
bolt in said frame engaged in said block, said block having an opening therein, a standard slidable in said opening, a screw in said block having a tapered inner end, said end projecting into said opening and in engagement with the lower end of said standard, said block having a passage communicating with one side of said screw, a locking screw in said block in spaced parallel relation with said first mentioned screw and having a tapered inner end, a plug slidable in said passage, the tapered end of said locking screw engaged behind said plug, whereby movement of said locking screw in one direction will move said plug into engagement with said first named screw.
3. In a bearing adjuster, a block having an opening, a bearing standard in said opening, a screw disposed axially in the lower end of said standard, a beveled head on said screw, said block having a lateral opening disposed at substantially right angles to said standard and communicating with the lower end of the opening therefor, and "1e inner end of said screw being tapered and engaged with the beveled head on said first named screw.
4. In a bearing adjuster, a support, a bearing slidable in said support, an adjusting screw in said support for moving said bearing, a locking plug in said support for engagement with said adjusting screw, and a locking screw in said support in spaced parallel relation to said adjusting screw for moving said plug into engagement with said adjusting screw.
5. In a bearing adjuster, a bearing support, a standard slidable longitudinally in said support, a bearing on said standard, an adjusting member in said support disposed parallel with said bearing and adapted to move said standard, a locking plug in said support adapted to engage and lock said adjusting member, and an operating element in said support disposed parallel with said adjusting member for moving said plug.
