1 Claim. (Cl. 2449) This invention relates to mens jewelry, more particularly to a collar holder; and has for one of its objects the provision of a collar holder carrying an ornamental chain to enhance the attractive appearance of the holder and yet one which may have the effect of desirably restraining the tie.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a collar holder with an ornamental chain for overlying the necktie and draping across the same and at the same time providing a means to prevent loss of the collar holder should the same become accidentally detached from the collar.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as will be more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. l is a perspective view showing my jewelry item in use on the collar of the wearer;
Fig". 2 is a front view of the collar holder with a chain attached at its ends to the ends of the holder and draped therefrom;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the structure shown in Figure l with the chain hidden beneath the holder;
Fig. 4 is an elevation of a modified form of holder with a chain draped therefrom; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective View showing the structure shown in Figure 4 as being applied to a collar for use on the same.
In the use of collar holders for holding the flaps of a collar, the same is largely hidden from View with the ends only being exposed, and in order to provide a more ornamental and attractive appearance for such an article of jewelry I have provided a flexible element, such for instance as a chain which may be draped across the front of the tie and attached to the ends of the collar holder so as to confine the tie within the loop formed by the chain and the collar bar; and the following is a more detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention, illustrating the preferred means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished:
With reference to the drawing, EB designates generally a collar holder which is formed of a curved front bar [I and a back bar E2, the ends of the bar I! are provided with spherical enlargements M which contact with the back bar l2 adjacent its ends. The bars are secured together intermediate their ends by a metal clamp [3 of frustropyramidal shape holding the bars together under sufficient spring tension between the members i i and 52 so as to firmly grip a piece of material inserted between them.
She back bar i2 is formed of a round wire doubled upon itself so that the ball i l fits into the crevice between the two adjacent Wires to provide an enlarged area of contact with the back bar I2. The ends of the back bar R2 are flared as at to provide with the ball M an entrance mouth it for the insertion of the fabric between the bars, such as the flaps l l of a collar l8, shown in Figure l.
A U-shaped member l9 conforming substantially to one-half a circle has its ends it turned inwardly to extend into a hole 2! in the ball it so as to swing with relation to the ball from one position to another. To this swinging member is, the end 22 of a chain 23 is detachably secured by the resilient S hook 34 while the other end of the chain similarly designated 22 is similarly attached to the member 19, similarly pivoted to the ball M at the other end of the collar holder.
The length of the chain 23 is greater than the distance between its points of attachment so that it will drape, as shown in Figure 2, and is also of sufiicient length to form with the bar ii a loop about the tie 24 when the same is positioned, as shown in Figure 1.
In use, the opposite jaws formed between the bars H and I2, are slid first on one collar flap I! by causing it to enter at the point i5 and then slid onto the other collar fiap in a similar manner. The tie is then threaded down through the loop formed between the chain 23 and the bar it so to position it as shown in Figure l, or
a if desired, the tie may be threaded through the loop formed by the chain and the bar H and then its jaws may be caused to grip the collar and be positioned as shown in Figure 1. In either case, the collar holder may be positioned by a known operation and the chain adjusted as above explained. Further, due to the detachable connection at the ends of the chain an end may be detached and passed about the tie and then attached to the member Hi to loop about the tie.
In some cases, instead of using a collar holder formed of the bars H and i2, I may use bar 25 having a pin point 26 at one end and some sort of an ornamental enlargement 21 at its other end, while an enlargement 28 may be detachably positioned on'the pointed end, as shown in Figure 4. In this case, a chain 29 is fixed as at 3%! to the ornament 2?, while its opposite end 35 is fixed to the ornament 28 which may be detached from the pin point 25.
In use, the pointed end of the bar is passed through the collar flaps 32 and 33 while the ornament 28 is removed from the pin point. The chain is then extended over the front of the tie and the ornament is placed on the pin point 25 to form a guard for the pin point and also an attachment for the end of the chain 29. In this manner it is unnecessary to thread the tie through the loop as one end is detached and the flexible member passed about the tie.
The foregoing description is directed solely towards the construction illustrated, but I desire it to be understood that I reserve the privilege of resorting to all the mechanical changes to which the device is susceptible, the invention being defined and limited only by the terms of the appended claim.
I claim:
A necktie holder comprising a bar having a point at one end for piercing a collar and an enlarged head at the other end, a knob removably positioned on the pointed end of said bar, and a flexible element secured to said head and to said knob and of a length greater than the distance between said head and knob when the latter is positioned on the pointed end of said bar.
