Application July 12, 1937, Serial No. 153,238
2 Claims.
This invention relates to means for retaining putty in place, the general object of the invention being to provide a wire and means for holding the wire in spaced relation from the members which are to be puttied and in such a position that the putty will surround it when put in place.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is an elevation of a sash showing the invention in use with parts broken away to show the wire.
Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view of the wire and the pene- 25 trating members attached thereto.
As shown in these views I provide a wire I which at spaced intervals has the penetrating members 2 connected therewith, such as form ing these members of wire with a portion of each member wrapped around a part of the wire I and the remaining portion extending at right angles from the wire so that it will penetrate the frame of a sash or other member which is to receive the putty.
As shown in Figure 1 the wire extends around the frame A of the sash and is spaced from l and sharpened the sash and is also spaced from the glass so that when the putty P is put in place the wire and the members 2 are embedded therein so that the putty is reinforced by the device and the device acts to hold the putty in place as 5 the material used to form the wire I should have an afiinity for putty so that the putty will readily stick to the same.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention what is claimed as new is:-
1. A putty retaining device comprising a single strand of wire passing longitudinally through the putty receiving space of a member and means for supporting the wire in spaced relation from the walls of such putty receiving space, whereby said wire will be embedded in the putty when the putty is put in the space.
2. A putty retaining device comprising va single strand of wire and short lengths of Wire having portions wrapped around the first-mentioned wire at spaced intervals with the other portions of each short length of wire bent at substantially right angles from the main wire and sharpened to penetrate a member having a putty receiving space through which the firstmentioned wire passes.
