3 Claims.

Our invention relates to improvements in garment hangers for trousers, coats and other wearing apparel.

The primary object of our invention is to provide a garment hanger which will support at least two pairs of trousers independently and in such position that either may be selected for removal from the hanger without disarranging and wrinkling the other pair or, other garments supported by the hanger such, for instance, as a coat and vest.

Another object is to provide a combination coat and trouser hanger embodying hanger brackets, for trousers, mounted upon a coat hanger to swing inwardly and outwardly of the latter so that trousers may be conveniently and smoothly hung thereon in the outward position of the sup ports and then sw-ung inwardly alongside the coat hanger in overlapping relation to position the trousers within a coat.

Other objects are to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, light in weight, strong and durable, and comparetively inexpensive to manufacture.

Other and subordinate objects together with the advantages of our improvements will be readily understood when the following description and claims are read with reference to the accompanying drawing,

Referring now to the drawing by numeral, in its preferred embodiment our improved garment hanger comprises a coat hanger member I formed of a piece of flat wood or other suitable material provided with the usual hook 2 in its upper edge for suspending the same from a fixed support. The coat hanger member l comprises oppositely sloping upper edges 3 terminating in outwardly rounded projecting ends l and a depending portion 5 below said ends 4. The ends 6 of the portion 5 are ofiset inwardly of the ends 4 and said portion is formed with downwardly rounded lower corners 7 and a lower inset straight edge 3.

Pivotally mounted upon one side of the depending portion 5 is a pair of bracket-like trouser supports 9 horizontally swingable into overlapping relation alongside of said portion 5 or outwardly of the latter as desired. Preferably the supports 1936, Serial No. 75,604

9 are each formed of a single piece of wire bent upon itself to provide horizontal and angularly related arms Iii and M, respectively, terminating in looped ends l2 pivotally mounted in eye members it suitably secured in the portion 5. 5 The pivot points of: the supports 9 are so arranged that either of said supports may be swung into overlapping relation with respect to the other.

From the foregoing it will be seen that either of a pair of trousers hung upon the supports 9 may be conveniently removed from their support without disarranging the front of a coat and vest hung upon the member I to such an extent as to wrinlne the same and the trousers are supported in a position in which they are more readily accessible through the front of a coat hung on the hanger than is the case with the usual hangers of commerce. Another advantage of our novel hanger is that the rounded ends 4 of the member 35 3 together with the ends it of the portion 5 provide for maintaining the sleeves of a coat in a desirable position the ends 4 taking into the arm holes of the coat and rounding off the shoulder part of the sleeves and the ends 6 spacing the 40 sleeves from the sides of the coat.

In the modification shown in Figure 4, a single trousers support 59 also of bracket-like form is pivoted at one end to a coat hanger 20 to swing into and out of the plane of the latter in opposite directions, respectively, and means for latching the support in the plane of the hanger. The coat hanger 28 in this instance is provided with depending ends 2! and the support I9 is pivotally mounted on the inner face of one of the ends 2|, 5 as at 22, to swing laterally of the hanger 20. The opposite end of the hanger 2B is formed with superposed inwardly extending ledges 23 forming a notch 24 therebetween, the lower ledge 23 functioning as a rest for the free end of the support to prevent it from sagging and to evenly distribute the weight of the trousers hung on said support. The upper ledge 23 forms a reinforcing boss at the juncture of the adjacent end 2| with the hanger 20. A pair of latching buttons are pivoted, as at 26, upon opposite sides of the hanger 20 for swinging movement into intercepting relation to the free end of the support 19 to thereby latch said support in the plane of the hanger,

An advantage of this form of our invention is that it is particularly adapted for hanging trousers alone. By suspending trousers in the plane of the coat hanger 20 sidewise tilting of said hanger under the weight of the trousers is obviated and likewise consequent outward swinging of the support.

Although certain details of construction have been described in the foregoing in connection with a preferred embodiment of our invention it is to be understood that the present disclosure is illustrative rather than restrictive and that right is herein reserved to modifications and changes falling within the scope of the claims appended hereto.

What we claim is:

1. In a garment hanger, the combination with a coat hanger member adapted to receive a coat in the shoulder portions thereof and suspend the same with the coat enclosing said member, of a laterally swinging trousers support of a length materially in excess of the width of a folded pair of trousers at an intermediate point in the leg length thereof, so that trousers may be suspended from said support at the fold line with a material clearance between them and the ends of the support, the support having a pivotal mounting on the hanger member adjacent one shoulder portion thereof and being foldable down against the hanger member to have the suspended trousers enclosed by the coat but swingable away from the hanger member to expose the trousers for removal through the open front of the coat.

In a garment hanger, the combination with a coat hanger member adapted to receive a coat in the shoulder portions thereof and suspend the same with the coat enclosing said member, of a plurality of laterally swinging bracket like trousers supports of a length materially in excess of the width of a folded pair of trousers at an intermediate point in the leg length thereof, so that trousers may be suspended from said supports at the fold lines with, material clearance between them and the ends of the supports, the supports having pivotal mountings on the hanger member respectively at opposite ends thereof in the zones of the shoulder portions of the same and being ioldable down on the hanger member one against the other to have the suspended pairs of trousers enclosed by the coat but being swingable away from the hanger member to expose the trousers on either one the open front of the coat,

3. In a garment hanger, the combination with a coat hanger member adapted to receive a coat in the shoulder portions thereof and suspend the same with the coat enclosing said member, of a bracket like trousers support hinged to said member beneath the same adjacent one end for lateral swinging movement through the open side for removal through of a supported coat or into the plane of said member, said support being of a length materially in excess of the Width of a folded pair of trousers at an intermediate point in the leg length thereof, so that trousers may be supported from said support at the fold line with a material clearance between them and the ends of the support, and latching means for said support when in the plane of said member.
