The electric motor assembly A is further provided withthe flange or feet pertions I 49 which are secured to the fiange M! of the bracket members I 52 by the screws I43 and nuts M4. The brackets I 32 are provided with the boss portions I45 which are provided with the bore I 35 through which extends the screws Hi1 which thus swivelly and pivotally support the brackets M2 together with the electric motor aosembly A and allow said bracket Hi2 and the electric motor assembly A to be pivotally moved about the axis of the screws M1 to provide means for adjusting the tension on the driving belts I 39, the screws M1 threadably engaging the cap or cover members I I0.
In order to lock the tension of the driving belts I 39 in their adjusted positions, one of the rackets I62 is provided with the boss I48 in which is pivotally supported the end of the shaft or stud I 29 as at I59, the shaft hi9 extending through a suitable opening in the rib or flange l5I of the brackets I81, said rib I55 being connected between the boss portion HI and the flange II5.
After the electric motor assembly A, together with its brackets IE2, have been adjusted to their proper position for tensioning the driving belts I39, the shaft is locked in place by the nuts I52 which threadably engage the shaft use on opposite sides of the web or flange I5I.
In order to provide further tension means for causing the finishing member I32. to engage a member to be finished, such as the hub cap I53 as disclosed in Fig. 10, the boss I53 is provided with the web, lug, extension or boss portion I54 which is rigidly connected with the boss I03 and extends into the chamber I55 formed by the hollow or rectangular box like portion I 55 which connects and is fixedly secured to the brackets I51, the boss portion i575 extending beyond and surrounding the lug 5 3 of the boss I523.

In a similar way the stud member IE! will be suitably secured in the upper wall portion I62 of the boss I55 and will extend through a suitable opening in the lug I54 and if necessary through a suitable clearance opening I63 provided in the wall portion I56 and in a similar way the spring or resilient member I64 will be mounted on the outer end of the stud I6I and will be secured thereon by the nuts I55 threadably engaging the outer end of the stud IGI and to provide for the use of a shorter spring than would otherwise be the case, the bushing or collar member I65 may be slidably mounted on the outer end of the stud I6! and interposed between the spring I64 and the lug I54 to exert an effort to urge the wall portion I92 toward the lug I5 and resulting in a tendency to urge or move the finishing member E32 and its operatively supporting parts upwardly and swivelly or pivotally about the axis of the screws I41.
For purposes of illustration the hub cap I53, or similar member, to be finished, may be suitably mounted and retained on a supporting member I61 of a supporting or conveyor mechanism which will support, move and feed a plurality of the hub caps or similar members I53 past the finishing member I32.
The electric motor assembly A is provided with a suitable electric cable I68 for connecting with a source of electric power to operate the electric motor assembly A.
In operation the electric motor assembly A will drive the pulley member I35, which will in turn, through the medium of the driving belts I39, drive the pulley member I28, which in turn drives the shaft I23 together with the finishing member I32 mounted thereon.
Due to the contour of such members as the hub cap I53 or similar members, it is necessary to provide various operating positions for the finishing member I32 and this is possible in my invention due to various adjustably mounted and operating portions thereof. In selecting the best operating position for thev finishing member I32, as dictated by the shape or contour of the members which are to be finished, the operator will fit one of the handle members I1 to the square end I5 of the shaft II and by revolving the shaft II with the lever member I1, the slide 5, together with its supported mechanism, will be moved to the proper position which will facilitate engagement with the. member I53 by the finishing member I32.
In order to further facilitate the position of the finishing member I32, the operator may utilize the same lever member I1 by fitting it on the square end 3! of the shaft member 21 which will enable the slide 2|, together with its supported mechanism, to be moved in a plane extending at right angles to the plane of movement of the slide 6, thus providing further adjustable ability for moving the finishing member I32 to its desired and required position.
The operator now places the lever member I1 on the square end 11 of the shaft and by operating the shaft 15, the worm 16 will operate the worm gear 53 which will in turn drive the shaft 56 which will cause the boss 53, together with the collar 31 and its supported mechanism to travel up or down the column 32 as desired, for the positioning of the finishing member I32 relative to the work to be finished, the key 44 preventing the collar 31 from rotating about the axis of the column 32.
Also in conjunction with the operation of the shaft 15 by means of the lever I1, the screw 19 may be loosened to permit the housing 62 and its supported mechanism to be rotated about the axes of the shaft 56 and the worm 58 to provide the desired position for best and convenient op eration of the lever member II on the shaft 15 by the operator.
After the finishing member E32 has been positioned in an up and down position, by the means which has just been described, by travelling up and down the column 32, the support bracket ll, together with the housing ii may be swivelly or pivotally moved together with its supporting mechanism, about the axis of the shaft 56 and the column 32 and after the selected position oi the finishing member I32 has been attained in this operation, the housing 5!, together with its supported mechanism, may be locked in its adjusting position by means of the clamp bolt 49.
The next portion of the set up operation is to position the housing 2 together with its supported mechanism, in its proper position about the axis of the bolt 82 by swivelly or pivo-tally moving the housing 85 and its supported mechanism about the axis of the bolt (32 to similar positions as indicated at i?! and H2 in Fig. 3, after which the bolt 82, together with the nut 85, may be utilized for clamping the housing 84 and its supporting mechanism in its adjusted position about the axis of the bolt 82. Then the operator is able, by means of the lever member 55, to operate the shaft 92 which will in turn revolvably operate the worm 9! which will operatively and revolve the worm gear 8'! which will in turn cause the shaft 85 to be rotated together with the bracket 98 and its operatively supported parts, about the axis of the shaft 39, thus provida further swivel or pivotal movement which will enable the finishing member 132 to be placed in different adjusted positions or operating positions such as indicated by the dotted lines I69 and Hit in Fig. 1, said adjusted and similar positions Hi9 and ill! being accomplished by adjustably moving the finishing member through an are having a considerably less radius than is the case where the finishing member is swivelly moved in a vertical plane having its pivot pointlocated adjacent the column 32 as is conventionally done in present and similar mechanical equipment.
Now the finishing member I32 will be further urged to the positions as indicated by the dotted lines i 53 and il in Fig. 1.1, by means of the springs i553 and 0645 according to the tension placed upon them by the nuts 56!] and I65.
Also this operation of positioning the finishing member l32 by the springs E59 and i6 3 and the nuts ltd and 155 will determine the amount of tension which is desired for the finishing member E32 to exert against the hub cap or similar member 53, and it is to be noted that this pressure exerted by the finishing member I32 against the member 553 is thus controlled to predetermined amounts and is not accomplished by balancing mechanisms utilizing the electric motor assembly A or similar means for balancing purposes as is the case in conventional mechanisms.
Also if desired, when it is desired to operate my adjustable finishing machine with the finishing member i312 held in a fixed position and without the resilient means for actuating same in its contact with the member to be finished, then the screws 5 and i125, which are respectively mounted in the wall portions 558 and 562, may be adjustably operated until they engage the lug iEd which will fixedly position the boss member I56 relative to the lug I55, thus further fixedly positioning the brackets it! together with the housing Ill and the finishing member R2 in a fixed position against swivel or pivotal movement about the bolts M! and in the desired position for contacting and engaging the hub cap or similar member 853.
I claim:
