My invention relates to loompickers. The invention, which among other of its objects has the provision of a durable, inexpensively maintained loom picker, will be best understood from the following description when read in the light of the accompanying drawing of an embodiment of the invention selected for illustrative purposes, the scope of which invention will be more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing, the picker comprises a loom engaging part or bunter head I, pref erably formed of disks of relatively stiff, hard 'cushion material such as sole leather.

' As illustratedthe bunter head is received in a holder which has a tubular part comprising the screw-threaded cup 3 and cap 5, the latter having the screw-threaded portion 1 fitting over and engaging the screw threads of the cup 3 for se- 35 curing one to the other. The bunter head holder also comprises a U-shaped member having side portions 9 formed integrally with the cup 3 and connected at their outer or rearward ends by a curvilinear portion H.

braces the picker stick I3,,the portion H of the member operatively resting against one edge of the picker stick. The inner end of the punter 45 head operatively rests against the opposite edge of the picker stick, while the cap 5 is provided with an inturned annular flange l5 engaging the edge portions of the 'outer end of the bunter head.

By reason of this construction, when the cap 5 50 is screwed on the cup- 3 the picker stick is clamped between the bunter head and the portion ll of the U-shaped member, thus securely holding the picker in assembled relation with the picker stick. Conveniently, the cap 5 is formed with a 55 plurality of perforations I! for engagement with (Cl. 139-459) V a sprocket wrench or other suitable instrument for turning the cap.

In the present embodiment of theinvention,

' the tubular member or cup 3 may be formed from a blank which is first pressed into the form 5 shown by Figs. 7 and 8. When so pressedthe blank comprises two semi-circular screwthreaded portions l9 each corresponding to onehalf. of the cup 3.- These portions [9 are connected by a strip 2| which may be bent to form 10 the sides 9 and base ll of the U-shaped member which embraces the picker stick. So bending the strip 2| places the two portions l9 into juxtaposed position to form the complementary halves of the cup 3. For insuring against the halves 15 of the cup springingtoward each other when the cap 5 is screwed into position, conveniently at the bottom of the cup is placed a metal disk or washer 23 interiorly snugly fitting the cup and resting at one side against the picker stick and at the opposite side against the bunter head.

The picker, when constructed as above described, may be rigidly clamped to the picker stick when the cap 5 is screwed into position to draw theparts together. The bunter head is so formed as substantially to contact with the interior walls of the bunter head holder formed by the tubular member comprising the cup 3 and cap 5. This prevents splaying or spreading of the material of the bunter head whenit is in use, and thus gives the picker'an extremely long life. Further, theholder for the bunter head being rigidly clamped to the picker stick prevents the conical recess 25, commonly formed in the bunter head for engaging with the shuttle point, from moving out of operative alignment with the shuttle point, thus eliminating the defect of picker heads as heretofore constructed which when in use become deformed and tend to cant v sidewisedue to irregularities in the hardness of 40 the leather, with the result that the picker stick is. subjected to a twisting strain and the picker does not properly engage with the shuttle point.

The picker herein described has the further advantage of being easily maintained in good working condition. All that it is necessary to do to repair the bunter head is to unscrew the cap 5 and to replace the outer laminations or leather disks contained in said cap. Still further, the picker constructed according to the present invention is easily installed and adjusted. It need only be slipped over the picker stick and, after being operatively aligned with the shuttle point, clamped into position by screwing down the cap 5.

For preventing the picker from moving lengthwise of the picker stick from its position in which it properly engages the shuttle point, when the cap 5 is removed for repair of the hunter head, I have shown a member 27 which is inserted between thebase portion H of the U-shaped member and the picker stick, this member having a perforation 29 for receiving a screw 3! screwed into the picker stick. As illustrated, an intermediate portion of the member 2'! equal in length to the width of the base i l of the U-shaped member is rounded ofi at its outer side as shown at 30 to conform with the curve of said base. This forms a notch in the member 27 having shoulders 33 at opposite sides of the base ll, causing the member to be adjusted lengthwise of the picker stick with the picker holder. After the picker is finally adjusted the screw 3! may be inserted, and thus the member 2'! establishes an adjusted position of the picker, in which position the picker holder is maintained when the cap 5 is removed.

It will be understood that wide deviations may be made from the embodiment of the invention without departing from the spirit of the invention.

I claim:

1. A loom picker having, in combination, a shuttle engaging part, a holder for said part having a portion laterally surrounding said part substantially in contact therewith and a portion adapted to surround the picker stick, said holder also having a member screw-threadedly connected to the first mentioned portion thereof adapted to engage said shuttle engaging part and clamp it and said second mentioned portion of said holder against said stick.

A holder for the shuttle engaging part of a loom picker having, in combination, a tubular part open at opposite ends for receiving the shuttle engaging part of the picker, a second part open at opposite ends screw-threadedly carried by said tubular part having provision for engaging'the outer end of the shuttle engaging part, and a U-shaped part operatively carried by said tubular part adapted to embrace the picker stick, whereby said second part is adapted to clamp said shuttle engaging part against one side of the stick and said Ushaped partfagainst the opposite side of the stick. e

3. A holder for the shuttle engaging part of a loom picker having, in combination, a tubular part open at opposite ends for receiving the shuttle engaging part of the picker, a second part open at opposite ends screw-threadedly carried by said tubular part having provision for engaging the outer end of the shuttle engaging part, said tubular part having secured thereto at 0pposite sides thereof the opposite endsrespectively of a U-shaped member adapted to embrace the picker stick, whereby said second part is adapted to clamp said shuttle engaging part against one side of the stick and said U-shaped member against the opposite side of the stick.

4. A holder for the shuttle engaging part of a loom picker having, in combination, a U-shaped part adapted to embrace the picker stick, a longitudinally split, substantially open ended tubular part for receiving the shuttle engaging part of the picker, the opposite side portions of said tubular part being carried bythe opposite ends respectively of said U-shaped part, a sleeve adapted to fit over the outer end of said tubular part having inturned flange means for engaging with the end of said shuttle engaging part, said tubular part and sleeve formed with cooperating screw threads.

5. A holder for the shuttle engaging part of a loom picker having, in combination, a tubular part open at opposite ends for receiving the shuttle engaging part of the picker, a second part open at opposite ends screw-threadedly carried by said tubular part having provision for engaging the .outer end of the shuttle engaging part, a U-shaped partoperatively carried by said tubular part adapted to embrace the picker stick, whereby said second part is adapted to clamp said shuttle said U-shaped part against the opposite side of the stick, and positioning means for said holder formed for engaging said U-shaped part and comprising a member adapted to be secured to said stick independently of said holder.

6. A loom picker having, in combination, a shuttle engaging part, a holder for said part hav ing a portion for engaging the side of the picker stick opposite said part, said holder having a tubular portion of lesser length than said part and which is open at opposite ends and receives said part, said holder also having a portion adjustably screw-threadedly connected to said tn,- bular portion for engaging the outer end of said part for clamping both the latter and said holder to said stick.
